Chapter 1
Aiyana’s POV
I finally made it to Rome last night and settled what little belongings I have into my room. When your backpacking for a year you really do have to become a minimalist. I was lucky enough to find a cheap room to stay in for the next couple days so I can research more into Ancient Rome culture.
I wake up the following morning with the sun shining brightly through the window warming my skin. Sighing and stretching ready for my day filled with adventure, first the colosseum then the pantheon ending the night with dinner by the Trevi fountain.
“Oh today’s going to be magical!” I say excitedly. I quickly pack some things together for the day and get myself dressed and ready.
I’ve always had a connection to Italy and Greece, I love the history and stories. Now that I’m here the connection feels stronger.
Maybe it’s because my great great grandmother met her husband here after leaving Greece. Either way I’m so excited to begin this part of my journey.
I slip my shoes on and throw my pack over my shoulder heading out the door. I pull out my map and look it over.
“Okay so I have to go down this road take a right here and then it’s straight on to the colosseum” I say to myself.
I start walking down the street taking glimpses of the different store fronts and the people. What catches my eyes is the men that are dressed sharp in their suits and ties.
I laugh to myself. “Maybe I’m getting a little boy crazy” I say in a whisper.
Or you just haven’t gotten laid in months and need to get some. My subconscious remarks. My cheeks warm at the thought and I shake my head to clear my thoughts.
I finally make it to the colosseum and internally squeal with delight. I was beyond ready to begin my research, and to explore the ancient structures plunging into the past.
“Let the adventure begin!” I said to myself as I entered the colosseum.
Antaeus’s POV
I had to leave home to do some business with the Romano’s to keep them under my thumb. As the first born Marinos male heir I’m the king of my home, and the king of the mafia underworld. I run both Italy and Greece in order to keep my kingdom and my family safe.
I’m to stay in Rome for a week to do business before I can go home. I never liked leaving but it comes with the role.
It’s late and after today I just want to eat some dinner and go back to my hotel.
“Gianni take me to my favorite restaurant by the trevi” I say to my driver.
“Yes sir” he replies
I check my email and texts, sending out some orders and business plans. I make sure my right hand man Leo gets my tributes and offerings ready for tomorrow. I have to honor my ancestors and the gods on the winter solstice for the Poseidonia of Aegina.
I’m missing out on the first week, but the feasts and games will continue for the next month and a half, so I’m not missing much.
“Sir, we are here” Gianni says pulling me out of my thoughts.
“Thank you” I say as he opens my door to let me out. Dressed in my dark gray suit, with deep blue tie and pocket hanky, with sapphire cuff links and black Giuseppe dress shoes.
The women in the restaurant eye me like I’m their long lost lover, while the men either look to me with respect or jealousy. I walk up to the maitre d. “Hello sir, it’s nice to see you again. Would you like your usual seating at the balcony?” He asked me
“Yes thank you” I reply in my boss tone. No matter how much I hate leaving home, every time I’m in Rome I love to eat here. I follow him up the side stairs to the private room with the balcony. Both the tables inside and out on the balcony are set with an extraordinary array of dishes and silverware in cream and golds.
“What could I get for you sir while you look over the menus?”
“I will have the masseto red, beef tail alla vaccinara and the foie gras” as many times I’ve been here I remember my favorite dishes by heart.
“Very well sir, it will be in shortly” he said before giving a short bow before exiting.
I go and sit on the balcony relaxing into the chair as I look down at the people around the fountain. There’s the normal tourists and vendors, people taking pictures all around the fountain. But what catches my eye is this woman intently studying the fountain.
She’s a bit shorter than most of the people, with long straight light brown hair. She’s wearing normal black leggings and a simple long sleeve shirt, but it complements and hugs her body in all the right places showing her curves. Something about her is different, it’s magnetic. I become mesmerized watching her silently. She looks at the fountain not as if she’s here in the present but like she’s looking at it in the past. Like she appreciates every small curve and detail. Then she looks up at me.
