A Broken Bond
I made my way quickly down the hall, the sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach only growing the closer I get to my destination. The Luna energy radiating off of my, combined with rage, makes everyone step to the side out of my war path including that of my gamma, Phillip, who can do nothing but utter a meager apology. I raise my hand to silence him, not bothering to tell him how he destroyed the sacred bond that bounds a Luna and Gamma to each other. Without a moment of hesitation I fling my door open to find my husband, my Alpha, my fated mate in the throws of passion with an unrecognized woman. I stand there, waiting to see if they’ll notice me but after a minute of enduring her moans and the pain gripping my stomach, I clear my throat. They both freeze like children getting caught with their hands in the cookie jar. Tristan turns his head to me, his eyes flashing between black and his honey brown showing that his wolf, Lance, was not in agreeance with this action. However, Tristan, ultimately won the battle with his wolf his eyes now only showing anger at being interrupted. I knew I should have seen this coming, all the signs had been there but the denial and reliance on the mate bond is what kept me from these sneaking suspicions. I had seen him flirting with pack women here or there, but I chalked it up to him being a charismatic Alpha. It wasn’t until last week that the pains started. It was dull at first, but it grew daily. I thought that I was getting sick but when the pack doctor confirmed that I will free of illness just an hour ago, I knew exactly what it was. The sacred bond was being broken. “Are you going to stand there all day or did you need something?” Tristan sneered, I was almost shocked as he had always seemed so happily in love with me but he must just be a good actor. I closed the door behind me and continue my way into my room making sure to get a clear look at the woman who is laying underneath my mate. Shame swirls in her eyes, mixed with pity and even…fear? I pull myself away and look back at Tristan. “I’ll have my stuff moved to a different room after you’re done. That way I don’t interrupt again.” I state, spinning on my heels and leaving the room tears threatening to spill over with every step I take away. I wouldn’t let them have that satisfaction, not today, not ever. —————- Hours later I find myself hiding out in my office just praying Tristan doesn’t look for me. Or maybe secretly I’m hoping he’ll come running back to me begging for forgiveness. I’m brought back out of my thoughts by a light knock on my door, assuring me that it’s not my mate. I straighten myself up and smooth out my hair which I had been raking with my hands, “Come in!” Phillip peeks his head in as if waiting for me to scream at him. I had decided it wasn’t worth it. Even with him being my Gamma, it wasn’t as if he could go against his Alphas orders regardless of if he agreed with them or not. He fully steps into my office lightly shutting the door behind him. His head hangs in shame and no words come out of his mouth despite it being open. “I’m not mad at you. Hurt? Yes. But not mad.” His eyes shoot up to mine, shock exuding from him. “You should be. I didn’t protect you. I failed not just as your gamma but as your friend.” Pain obvious in his voice. I wanted to pity him and to forgive him immediately but I was done being forgiving. From here on out, I’ll be cold just as Tristan was. “From here on out I am just a Luna. You were Tristan’s friend first and that is how it will stay. I will be fine.” He opens his mouth to protest but I raise my hand to stop him before he starts, “I have duties to uphold. Please leave me in peace.” He nods lightly and makes for the door only lingering for a moment as if contemplating saying something but he chooses against it closing the door behind him.
