No matter how hard I concentrated, I could not manage to touch anything.
‘This is useless,’ I said hours later, waving my hands in the air and setting my astral body shaking. ‘I can’t do it.’
Lachlan’s expression darkened, hair mussed from the amount of times he’d gripped it with his hands. ‘Don’t flake out on me now, Rose. I’m counting on you to get the two of us out of here.’ His voice was brisk, matter of fact.
‘What about the others imprisoned here?’
‘If they’re not useful, they’d just be excess baggage. On our own, we have a chance. Trying to rescue the rest would slow us down.’
I frowned. They were Father’s followers he was talking about abandoning. I had no friends among them, most of them choosing to follow his lead in ignoring me because I had no ability. But that
