Chapter 5

2525 Words
Daniel's POV cha "Have you lost your damn mind?" The door to my office opened as I made sure my computer firewall was secure. I knew it could only have come from one person otherwise they'd be fired on the spot. "Come again?" I raised an eybrow at my PA, Favour as i continued. I was waiting on Percy from my IT department, but I didn't have time. "You can't just up and fly to Thailand!" She said, walking infront of my desk. "Who can't?" I replied, not bothering to look up at her. She deeply sighed, knowing that I'd do what I wanted regardless of anything she'd say. She knew I didn't just do things for no reason. There was always a purpose. "You could have atleast let me know ahead of time. I had to hear it from Michelle. I have to arrange a plane ticket and concierge. It doesn't just happen in five seconds. And I'm guessing i'm the one you're leaving here to keep Knight's SEO in check, right?" She was right. I understood it probably would have been smarter to let her know I'd be going the minute I decided, but I was a tad distracted at the time. "You don't have to arrange anything. I'm taking my jet. Just make sure it's prepared for two." "Two?" She asked, following me as I stood up and walked out of my office to find Pier. I was sure I did a good job at checking if it was secure, but I was no expert in that department. "Yes, two," I glanced over at Kate's desk and her chair was empty. I guess she had taken my offer. Smart. "Myself and Kate Claire." "The intern?" I could hear the confusion in her voice. "Why is she going with you?" "Just do as I say, Favour," I walked down the hall to the tech department and he sat at his computer updating Limited's website. "Thank you." "I could do that, Daniel, but it'd only make me a bad assitant," She uttered. I told Pier to come and check the firewall and he complied. Why couldn't she be as compliant? "I'm smart enough to know there's no use for an intern on a business trip to seal a partnership. So, why is it that you trust this woman enough to bring her along?" "Stop questioning me and do your job." I had no answer for her question. Why did I trust Kate? It wasn't a matter of trust. It was a matter of she had something I needed and I was going to get it. I wouldn't have guessed she'd be a spy. Surely, the competition is smarter than to send a beautiful woman to snoop around on a f*****g intern computer. "Fine, don't look at me when she turns out to be another Mark." I watched her as she walked out. I tried my best not to let her remark get to me. She knew exactly how to push my buttons and she knew I wouldn't fire her. "Alright, Mr. Clinton, everything is safe and secure," Pier said, bringing my attention back to my computer. I sent him off with a nod and leaned against the wall to speculate my decision. Was I making a wise choice to bring Kate with me? Had I let my emotions get the best of me? Even if Gabrielle was still an option, I'd never extend that offer to her. It was strictly f**k and go. What was so different about this woman? I was yet to figure it out, but I made a promise to myself to do so before this trip is over. Because she's undoubtedly f*****g coming. And if all goes well—in more ways than one. The next morning I got Kate's address from her work file and my limo driver stopped to pick her up. He opened the door for me and I gave him a nod, letting him know he needed not to stand outside and wait for me. I walked into the lobby and to the elevator, recalling her door number. "229..229," I said to myself as I looked on each door I passed. "Here it is." I knocked and after hearing some shuffling on the other side, the door opened and my eyes met with a short girl with dark brown hair all over her head, yawning. She wiped her eyes and as her head rose I saw doe-like, blueish-steel eyes peeking out from under her eyelashes and my heart stuttered. Her eyes went wide when they met mine. She looked more beautiful this way actually, but she reminded me of a little girl coming into her daddy's room after she had just had a nightmare. "Mr. Clinton, what are you doing here?" She asked, groggily. "It's time to go, Kate," I informed, placing my hands in my pocket. "I told you we leave early." So what it was 6:30am and I moved the time frame up a day. Welcome to the life of a CEO. "You said tommorow," She responded with squinted eyes due to the hallway light. "It is tomorrow," I told her, becoming impatient. "Well, can I catch the next tommorow?" I groaned and with a "f**k it," I hoisted her up and over my shoulder. I heard a small 'hey!' but ignored as I walked into her place. "Where is your suitcase?" I questioned and she tried to stand up and almost succeeded because of her slippery silk white night gown. The only thing she did was wiggle her ass in my face, getting herself no where. "Just tell me where it "Fine, it's in front of my closet, by the mirror," She gave in, lazily pointing towards it. I stepped over a few pairs of her shoes before grabbing the suitcase handle and pulling it towards the door. Her apartment was quite small, but I figured it must be perfect for her. It's not like she takes up a lot of space. I looked for her keys to lock the door on the way out and luckily it was in clear view on her night stand. "Hey, hey, hey," She patted my back, stopping me from heading out the door. "Can you get the lasagna I left on the stove and bring it, please? I really want it now." I contemplated just leaving until I heard her whine. I growled lowly at her and thought about giving her bum a smack, but I had no time to have her struggle to get down again. I walked into the kitchen which was only a mere five steps away. I looked on the stove and my eyes met some burned lasagna and I cringed in disgust. "This looks bad. We're leaving it." "Hey, f**k you. That took me an hour to make thanks to Google recipes," She struggled again, but gave up more easily this time. It seemed she had more confidence in her tired state. That or she'd been drinking. "Are you drunk?" I couldn't help but ask. There was no way I could be seen with a drunk woman walking out of a building at six in the morning. "No, I'm am not, I just want my lasagna," She said, seriously. "That's rude." "Look, I'll buy you some that's actually cooked correctly later," I told her, walking to the door and grabbing the suitcase handle once again. "We have to go." "No, I don't want you to spend your money on me," She argued. "It's fine, Kate," I groaned out of fustration. "This is highly unprofessional,"I felt her arms fold on my back as if she was trying to sleep on a desk. "And you not waking up on time is?" I shook my head when i didn't get a response. I walked out the door and locked it. When we got into the elevator I tried to make her stand. Although, She wasn't ready on time she was right. That was very unprofessional of me and even this early in the morning eyes would still watch my every move. I went to put her down and she wined not bothering to hold herself up, causing me to quickly catch her before she hit the ground. I sighed and picked her up bridal style as her arms went around my kneck. She had to have had no less than one drink. Atleast this way I could say she had sprained her ankle if any questions were to arise. Before I knew it I was outside. My chauffeur briskly grabbed her suitcase, placing it in the trunk. He got back into the driver's seat as I opened the door and gently laid Kate across one of the side seats. "Is she okay, sir?" Joseph asked, looking at her through the mirror. As he did she let out a moan before converting into the fetal position in an cute way. "I'm not thoroughly sure."5 is." Kate's POV It had been only a day since Mark and I had had that exchange in the conference room and I still was having trouble wrapping my head around it. From a kiss to a trip to Thailand. He skipped second and third base and just went straight to home. He had said it as a demand that I go with him, but I knew the choice was still mine to make. The question was did I want to go? Maybe I did, but what would he need me there for? Was he bringing other employees with him or was it just me? Alone in a foreign country with Daniel Clinton. My boss. Who I had only met a week ago. Was it safe? Could I bring Clara with me? I don't think he'd like that idea, but what would it hurt to ask? After all he was stopping my life here in New York, not that I had much going on but still. The next day at work, I hadn't seen Mark. I figured he was busy making sure everything was in order here before he left. Maybe he was giving me my space before we joined on our way to Thailand. The question still rung in my head on whether or not I was making a bad decision to go. But of course Clara encouraged me to live a little. That didn't mean I hadn't noticed the sadness in her eyes at the thought of her not coming with and her friend leaving her for three days. But maybe she was right. Today went on as it usually did. I filed paperwork for Vivian at my computer for a few hours before she walked up to me. "How are you doing?" She asked, placing a hand on my shoulder. "Oh, I'm fine," I said, only taking a small glimpse of her as I finished typing the last data entry. "Mr. Clinton requested I tell you if you would like to go home early today then you are welcome to," She nodded towards me, grabbing the stack from atop my desk as if i had already said yes. "He understands that you have an important trip coming up." "Oh, um please send him a thank you from me," I muttered, slowly sliding from behind my desk in the roller chair. I wondered if Daniel had told her that the trip would be with him. She'd probably think that's a stupid idea on his part, perhaps because it was. He had no reason to bring me along. And it would be a cardinal sin for the CEO to have relations with an intern. Maybe it was different because it would be in Thailand? What did he expect from me there? Would I file paperwork there too? Would having a female along help seal the deal? Surely, Favour would be a better option. But Diana informed me on one of her gossip episodes that Favour wasn't into men. So, I guess it wouldn't have that same s*x appeal. I shook my head when I realized that I was once again over-thinking. I walked out the door and looked for a cab in the distance. I'd call Clara but I'm sure she's still at work. A cab stopped once I waved it down with my phone in hand and I climbed in, finally making up my mind. It's a once in a life time chance to go to a foreign country. With my boss or not it'd be a worthy experience. Out of all the workers he could have offered that amazing opportunity to, he offered it to me. And I was deffinetly going to take it. Gabrielle Gilbert "No." My resolve broke and my cheek stung as a hot tear fell. He told me no. Me. After all I've done for him. Nightmare after nightmare. It was always me there when he couldn't act like a grown man and handle his dreams. Not Kate. Not knight SEO. Me. I may not have known what they were about, but I knew what it meant when he called me at one or two in the morning. And then right after I'd show up on time for work to deal with his client's accounts. I deserved some type of credit. I never denied him. After yelling in my face. Yet, he denied me. I loved him. He only used me and trashed me after he found his next f**k. He had officially become the stereotype of an arrogant CEO. He threw away what we were accustomed to for an entire year. And for what? Some low-life intern? Jaret had only started a week ago and already had Daniel wrapped around her little finger. He had never let me ride with him in his limo or offered to take me to work at all. But he let her. Her innocent act might have fooled him, but it wasn't going to fool me. What could he have seen in her anyhow? She was nothing to be compared to me. Whatever it may be, he was foolish for it. Daniel had no idea what he had just done. I would see to it that him and would both get what they deserved. I stepped out of my car and sauntered into the massive building with my head held high in my red stilettos and matching dress just as though I owned this place. No one stopped or eyed me as I stepped right into an old friend's first floor office. I leaned against his desk as he smiled at me. He was leaned back in his chair with his hands entwined over his mid-section. "Well, look who it is,"He smiled at me and his eyes glimered. "Daniel finally get tired of you? Or did he just send you to seduce me into giving you information?" I laughed, strolling behind his chair as he continued to look forward, unbothered. I brought my hands to his shoulders and lowered them as I spoke in his ear in the most sexy voice I could administer. "Actually.. I have some information for you, Mr. Clinton." Nothing beats a woman scorned.
