“I…” I swallowed. “I don’t know him.”
That wasn’t a complete lie. I didn’t know him in the way it mattered.
He didn’t respond immediately.
He just watched me.
Not casually or like someone enjoying a moment.
“You’re in his territory,” he said slowly.
I didn’t say anything.
My body had already gone stiff. I didn’t even realize I had stopped moving until he shifted slightly beneath me.
“Move,” he said under his breath.
I forced myself to continue.
Like nothing had changed and my heart wasn’t beating too fast.
“People say he’s dangerous,” he continued.
“What do you think?” he asked.
I hesitated.
Then I looked at him.
“I think…” I paused, choosing carefully. “Men like that don’t lose control.”
