“Whatever, then. I don’t want to know what you get up to at a quarter to four in the morning anyway.”

“No?” I chimed.

“No.” He stood his ground firmly, until. “Alright yeah maybe I do.” He gave in, tone defeated but I got the inkling he didn’t mind as much as it seemed he did.

“Three minutes and forty starting now then.” I quipped, and he chuckled lightly before agreeing.

“I’ll take what I can get.”

Chapter 1-PREVIEW
This is a preview chapter! I haven't gotten this beta read, as well as my other recently posted book (I Wish Sunsets Would Last Longer) as I wanted to attempt getting feedback directly from you-my readers. Your opinion are important to me. If you lot enjoy this snippet, let me know! I would love to continue writing and posting more for this if it's up to par. All my love, enjoy. xx Talking to the Stars Chapter 1-PREVIEW The dull ringing of my cell phone broke the silence that I had been drowning in. I groaned lightly, the noise far too loud for this time of night, (morning, what have you). I let my hand fumble around my sheets blindly until I got ahold of the object I had been searching for. “Hello?” I brought my hand near enough to my ear to be certain I wouldn’t miss the reply of whoever was awaiting my voice on the other end of the line. “s**t, you don’t sound like Dan either.” A rough voice sighed, clearly distraught over my lacking to be Dan. “No, can’t say I am,” I replied, hauling myself up on my side with an elbow propped up against my sheets. “Bloody fuck.” I didn’t mind their vulgar mouth. “Well, tonight’s just going to be proper s**t, then.” I sighed and positioned myself upright against the soft headboard behind me. “Sorry about that.” I chimed. “No, you’re not.” The man’s chuckle rang through the phone, causing light vibrations to meet my ear. “Don’t worry, I wouldn’t expect you to be. I mean, you get woken up by an odd bloke at a quarter to four in the morning on a Monday? I think lack of empathy is calling for you, at that point.” I frowned and worried my bottom lip between my thumb and my forefinger. “It’s alright, I hadn’t nodded off yet anyway. Didn’t disturb any sleep on my end, if that puts you at ease a bit more.” I commented. It was quiet, just for a moment. I was aware that he-whoever he was-still sat on the other end of this increasingly odd phone call. The sky outside my window was still painted black, streetlights being the only saviour besides the dimming stars. Sun was meant to rise in an hour, give or take. I was about to bid my goodbyes, until. “What’s got you up so late anyway?” “Well I would answer that, but considering I haven’t got a clue who you are the better half of me is deciding against doing so.” There was another stifled laugh in response to my statement. “Fair, fair.” He spoke, tone a bit breathy as his short fit of laughter died down. “Right, so I know this will probably seem rather forward-” “If I’m being honest, this whole call has been rather forward. Looking at it in perspective, that is.” I quipped. “Right.” The man blind to my knowledge countered. “As I was saying,” “You were.” I nodded, despite my concrete awareness that whoever I was speaking to didn’t have a slight chance of seeing this. “Oi!” A disgruntled noise met my ears. “Cut a man off, why don’t you?” He mumbled and I couldn’t hold back a laugh. “Solid point. I should cut this interaction off. I’m not one fond of speaking to strangers at a quarter to four. Wouldn’t be the wisest decision, they say.” I shifted around a bit, letting myself fall deeper into the abyss of pillows surrounding me. “They do say that.” His bemused town was quite clear. “They also say not to interrupt.” He challenged, and I let out a breath of defeat. “Right, right. Humour me, then.” I picked at the white duvet sat atop my middle. “It’d be my pleasure.” I rolled my eyes. “I’ll give you two minutes. Then I’m ending the call.” “Two minutes? At least give me six.” He challenged. “Three minutes forty, I won’t budge from there.” My eyebrows raised for no one besides myself. “Three minutes fifty?” I could tell there was a smile present on his face. “Right, it was nice knowing you then. My luck-“ He cuts me off, struggling to get audible words out through his laughter. “Okay, okay. Three minutes forty, I’ll take it. You’ve sold me.” I smiled and stilled my hand over the soft fabric of my sheets. “Well get on with it then, I’m a busy lady.” I heard him scoff lightly. “Yeah? Got much to do at this hour, then?” I couldn’t help but bark a quick laugh of my own. His tone was light but also a bit incredulous. “I’m busy busy.” I teased back, resting my head against the plush headboard of my bed. “Course.” He agreed dramatically. “Whatever, then. I don’t want to know what you get up to at a quarter to four in the morning anyway.” “No?” I chimed. “No.” He stood his ground firmly, until. “Alright yeah, maybe I do.” He gave in, tone defeated but I got the inkling he didn’t mind as much as it seemed he did. “Three minutes and forty starting now then.” I quipped, and he chuckled lightly before agreeing. “I’ll take what I can get.”
