Chapter 01: Ghost Photographer
The world can be a perilous place, teeming with individuals driven solely by their pursuit of wealth, power, and personal desires. Flynn adjusted the camera lens and zoomed in on an illicit transaction unfolding on the rooftop. She skillfully captured multiple shots, documenting the exchange of money and illegal substances while capturing the faces of those involved. "Mission accomplished," she grinned before making her exit, causing quite a commotion as she turned to leave. Soon, news of an illegal enterprise linked to a wealthy family began to circulate, leading the police to raid the unsuspecting shell company caught red-handed. Cain, with a satisfied smile, commended her, "Well done." "Thanks," Flynn replied, counting the money before discreetly stowing it in her jacket. Cain adjusted his sunglasses and scrutinized her disheveled appearance. "Hey, kid, you're not using my money for drugs, are you?" he asked, sounding suspicious. Flynn scoffed, "I'd be a hypocrite if I did." "Then, no offense, but why do you still look like you're homeless? You're clearly not spending it on yourself." She tensed at his remark, her gaze dropping to the table as she recollected the hardships that had brought her to this point. Cain decided not to pry further, lowering his sunglasses and clearing his throat as he handed her some cash from his wallet. "Here, treat yourself to something." "No, I don't ne—" "Don't be stubborn, kid. I'm leaving already." Following Cain from a distance, Flynn released a sigh before finally accepting the extra money. Maybe it was time to invest in some new clothes; her worn-out black jacket held sentimental value as it had been with her during her initial escape to save herself. She strolled through the bustling streets, hands tucked into her pockets, blending into the crowd. A couple of university students walked past her, enthusiastically discussing their academic endeavors and life. Her thoughts wandered to the fact that she should have been in her second year of college had she continued her education. But she had come to terms with the reality that luck hadn't favored her as it did for others. Instead of fixating on her misfortune, she opted to use her time wisely by working and earning a living. *** Meanwhile, in the VIP room of a club, two gentlemen enjoyed the solitude and their drinks, free from the presence of the women they had dismissed a while ago. "Cain Salvacion is quite the character. I heard he's a model and a photographer, and he hails from a prominent family. It's no surprise he's unafraid to court trouble by sabotaging illegal businesses like that," Reon remarked, finally taking a sip of his drink. He exuded an air of sophistication until he choked on his drink, spilling some on his shirt. Lucien shook his head slightly, sipping his drink with regal composure. "Seven years, and you still talk too much." "Hey, that's rude, Lucien! That's not true!" Reon protested, his childlike expression at odds with his expensive suit. "Salvacion isn't the one responsible for the photographs. He has no opportunity to do it, and he craves attention wherever he goes. There's no way he could go undetected." "Oh?" Reon raised an eyebrow and crossed his arms. "So, you think he lacks talent and simply paid someone?" Lucien arched an eyebrow in return. "I don't just think, Reon—I know." "Is that so? You aren't saying this because you're still bitter about Fiona being all over him, are you?" Reon inquired. Lucien looked at him as though he were slow to pick up on things. Reon had already been exposed to the murky depths of the business world, so how could he not see through Fiona's manipulations? For Reon, Fiona was the one who had dumped Lucien and clung to Cain, but Lucien was fully aware of how she had begged to be with him. Her pursuit of a famous personality was one of her tactics to regain his interest. Ultimately, Lucien chose not to address the Reon's misconception. It wasn't driven by any imaginary jealousy or bitterness; Lucien had enough evidence to assert that Cain Salvacion was hiring a ghost photographer while taking the credit for himself. The reason Lucien refrained from exposing Cain was simple: it had nothing to do with him. Cain could carry on with his charade as far as Lucien was concerned. *** In the end, lounging at home and devouring a cup of noodles seemed like the best way to pass the time. Flynn greedily slurped her noodles, savoring them as if they were a lifeline, until news of a business tycoon's generous donation to an orphanage flashed on her TV screen. She abruptly paused her ravenous eating and stared. For a moment, she couldn't believe that he was a businessman and not some famous model or actor. His face and physique were designed to entice women into temptation. Flynn cleared her throat. Once she snapped out of her trance, she shook her head. Some people were just fortunate in every aspect of their lives. Deciding to finish her noodles rather than fixate on the handsome guy's face, Flynn's phone suddenly beeped. "Be prepared. I received a tip that Lucien Segovia is going to participate in an illegal transaction at this location. Make sure to get his face in HD." Flynn furrowed her brow. "Lucien Segovia, isn't that..." She glanced up at her TV screen, where the charismatic bachelor and business tycoon seemed to meet her gaze through the camera. "... him?"
