Chapter Forty-Eight

"Why are we just sitting here doing nothing?" Troy asked with anger I didn't care for.

"I told you, Troy. I'm fixing the mess you left. It will take patience to get Tiana back."

Troy let out a sound that sounded so close to a growl. Honestly, I couldn't give two shîts.

"I'm not going to sit here and let that man corrupt my sister. You may not care about her given you treat her like shît."

I stood to my feet with a glare fixed upon my face. "Watch yourself, Troy."

He scoffed and sat in the nearby chair.

"We just have to be patient. Tiana won't easily be on our side. We need a plan that will make her believe she is on the wrong side. Carter Maso is a secretive man. We have to tread carefully since that blow up you caused."

Troy sighed. "Fine."

"Patient is key, Troy. Remember that or you will find yourself dead......?"

OMNISCIENT       

"Nice to hear your voice, Big Bro." Camille spoke excitedly on the other end.

"I can say the same to you." Carter replied back as he watched from his balcony, Tiana once again walking along the shores of the beach.

"You don't sound too happy. Is something wrong?" Camille queried causing Carter to sigh.

"Have you heard from mother?"

"No. You know I don't bother taking her nor dad's calls." Camille replied back sadly.

"Well, do you have a dress?"

"Depends on the event. What's going on?"

Carter exhaled another breath. "My two year wedding anniversary party. Seems that dad has taken it upon himself to throw one for show."

Camille felt for her brother. "Paris, right?"

"Yeah, and the husband and the maid of honor has to be there."

Camille scoffed as she remembered that dreadful wedding day. Force to be Riena's maid of honor knowing she was far from being so close to her.

"I guess I have to get a ticket to Paris."

"I want you to come to Tampa."

Camille eyes grew wide. "Tampa, Florida? Are you at Grams beach house again, Carter?"

"Obviously." Carter replied back in irritation.

"Anyway, I can get you out of going to that anniversary party if you watch Tiana for me. I don't need her being involved."

Camille frowned. "You're telling me she doesn't know that you're a married man?"

Carter looked at Tiana who had a smile on her face as she let the waves splash her hands.

"She doesn't. I don't want her involved."

"It's a bit too late for that wouldn't you say?"

"Yes or no, Cam?" Carter questioned.

Camille sighed. "Fine, but I want your black card. I might have a change of heart and buy me something for the party."

"Alright."

"K, see you in a day or two. Love you."

"Love you too." Carter said and ended the call.

He called Rick and he appeared around the corner immediately. "My sister is coming. I need you to meet her at the airport in two days."

"Yes, sir." Rick said and walked off.

Carter exhaled a long breath but his eyes never strayed away from Tiana. She had a smile on her face as she enjoyed the environment around her.

This made him realize how much he liked to see her smile.

Despite all the bullcrap that's happened, she managed to keep herself from worrying at this moment.

"Mr. Maso?"

"Mason, Eva. I told you." Carter spoke to the housekeeper but kept his gaze locked on Tiana.

"I'm sorry, sir. You have a letter." The brown haired woman handed him the letter.

"Tell Tiana to come inside." Carter demanded and she left without hesitation.

Carter took his gaze from the window and examined the envelope. Stamped from Paris. He sighed and opened the envelope.

Beloved son

No words to say or describe how much I missed you, my son. I really hope to see you at your anniversary party given you are the husband. Riena is a sweet girl and I never understood your disliking towards her. It's been seven years and I hope you don't embarrass your father for whatever grudge you have. Please be on your best behavior and don't forget to inform your sister on her duties.

Carter placed the letter to the side, completely annoyed at this point. Just then, Tiana walked in with a smile on her face and Eva behind her.

Carter grabbed the letter and folded it into a half. He slipped it in his pocket as she made her way closer to him.

"Why so grumpy? Smile for me." Tiana said while her finger brushed over his cheek.

Carter lips twitched in a smirk. Eva excused herself to finish her duties, leaving the two alone.

"I said, smiling, Carter. Not your devilish smirks." She said, causing him to chuckle.

"There you go." Tiana smiled.

She will admit, she loved it when he smiled and it was a rare thing from him. Tiana knew she had grown to have some spark for Carter despite their situation and how they met.

As time continued, things changed.

"Enjoyed yourself outside?" Carter questioned.

"Yes. The water felt nice. Too bad I don't have a swimsuit."

Carter opened his mouth to reply when she spoke once again. "How long are we staying here?"

"I don't know. I'm leaving in two weeks for Paris on business and I don't know how long I'll be gone."

Tiana frowned. "Paris? What kind of business?" She asked but immediately regretted it.

"Tiana—"

"I'm sorry. It's none of my business." Tiana quickly said.

Carter stared at her for a moment. "You won't be alone. My sister is flying down here and should be here in two days. I want you two to get to know each other more."

Tiana smiled. "Sounds fun but can you do me a favor?"

She took his c****d eyebrow as a yes.

"Can you take pictures for me? Even bring a souvenir. I've never been to Paris and I actually want to go one day."

Carter gave her a nod. Tiana smiled and leaned up and kissed his cheek and turned to walk out the kitchen. But before she could walk all the way out the kitchen, she felt him grab hold of her wrist and pull her back to him.

"I want a kiss."

Tiana shook her head 'no' and tried to pull out of his grasp but he didn't let her.

"Don't act all shy on me now, babe."

Her lips curved into a smirk. "Who said I was shy, Carter? I probably don't want to kiss you."

"Probably—"

Tiana placed a finger on his lip, cutting him off. She had a feeling that he would say something that would make her jump.

"Goodnight, Carter." She smiled and pulled out of his grip and walked out the kitchen, leaving Carter standing there with a smirk on his lip.
