CHAPTER TWO

AWAITING DEATH CLEO'S POV My breath quickened and it felt like I could not hear all the lousing murmurings that had erupted in the room after the Alpha mare his announcement. A lot of things were going on in my head like, "How did she die? When did she die?..." I gasped. I looked up at the Alpha, "please, you have to believe me, I didn't do it. I didn't kill her. After the mating ceremony, I didn't set my eyes on her." I pleaded. He turned to face me and walked to me and landed a hot slap across my face. I coughed and my cheeks burned from the contact his palm made with my face. "Then explain to me..." He yelled, and then took a strained inhale, "...how this was found in your shed." He ended and stretched his palms out to me. It was the bracelet which was stained with blood. Risa always wore that bracelet, she never took it off even for a second. I would know of course because I was always bullied by her. She took it upon herself to make my life a living hell in the pack, always reminding me of how I don't belong with them and how I was found on the border of the pack and how my identity is a curse. I shook my head rapidly, "I really don't know anything. I swear by the moon goddess. I don't know how it ended up in my shed. I really didn't..." "Liar," I heard Adam yell, interrupting my plea. I looked shocked at him. My eyes darted to the corner where I saw Mera, his mate and Risa's friend crying profusely. Then I looked back at him. "Stop lying already and just tell him the damn truth." He yelled. I was shocked, "what was he talking about?" "I don't understand. How could you think that I..." I don't want to complete the statement. "You know me Adam, at least for the sake of what we once had, stop this, please." I begged. He scoffed, "stop pretending you're a murderer." I gasped loudly, "Adam.." it came out as a whisper and all the tears I thought could not fall anymore began to pour down my eyes and roll onto my face. He then came up to me and violently grabbed me by the collar of my cloth with his two hands. "You know that you can't escape your punishment so it doesn't matter how much you try to deny it, you murdered Risa and that's it. But what for?" He scoffed, "The reasons are so clear." The Alpha placed his hand on Adam's shoulder and Adam roughly let me go. "The more you keep denying it, the worse it becomes for you Cleo." The Alpha said. "We have a witness to the crime and now, evidence has surfaced also, there are more than one motives that link you up to be the murderer. I should never have taken you in." He said. I was shocked when he said that there was a witness. "Who...who saw me kill...Risa?" I asked the Alpha. I was in pain. "Adam saw you." He stated. "What!!" I exclaimed. "Yes I saw you kill her. You flawed at her throat in the forest near your shed. And then later, you picked fruits." He scoffed. I shook my head, "We saw some fruit in her hand, Alpha." One of the guards said, the initial one I talked to. "Yes, I went out to pick some fruits but I really didn't kill her, I didn't set my eyes on her either..." I was speechless at this point. "You loathed Risa. You banned her for every misfortune that has ever happened in your life and most importantly, you knew you could not get back at her for the way she treated you at the mating ceremony so you chose the right place and time to finally get back at her. I'm the process, you killed her." Adam said. "That is all made up and you know it Adam." I yelled. "Which is made up, the part where you loathed her or the part where you nursed in your heart to get revenge on her?" He asked. I gasped, "this was so unbelievable. He could do this to me without batting an eye?" I thought, my heart breaking all over again. Nothing we shared was real. If he knew that he didn't love me then why did he get close to me in the first place when he should just have remained like every other werewolf and loathe me. "I have made my verdict, you shall be killed. No trial awaits a murderer, only death." The Alpha said and then turned to his guards, "Take her to the dungeon and keep her there. She shall be tortured until the day we finally put her to death which will be on the night of the full moon which is only two days away. She must not be given anything to eat or drink. She will be lashed morning, afternoon and night before that day. That is my verdict." He ordered and turned his Beta warriors. Who bowed in obeisance and then dragged me up to a standing position. "Why did you love me if you knew that you were going to end up betraying me Adam? Why didn't you just stay the f**k away from me like you should have? I hate you with all my miserable life. I hate that you exist. All of you and I curse you all. You will meet a bad end. You all will perish!!!!" I yelled and walked as I was being dragged to the dungeon. My heart and head aches so badly. This was all their doing. The only son I had ever committed was to be my father's daughter and carry his name. The guards led me through a tunnel which was detached from the Alpha's pack house. It was an underground tunnel. We went in through an iron gate. They led me through it, the walls were damp and slimy. I could see insects crawling. We didn't need a fire lit torch, we were werewolves and we had excellent eyesight. The smell was pungent and very foul. They took me to the dungeon and led me to a part of the wall where some chains were fastened. They chained my hands and my leg. One scoffed, "silver chains for a Silver. Befitting right?" He asked and then burst out laughing. I hissed when the silver made contact with my skin. Silver posed a significant weakness to werewolves. It was like acid on our skin. It leaves a burning sensation every time it makes contact with our skin. I've heard that silver bullets poisoned with wolfsbane can kill a werewolf but that kind of weapon can't be found here in the forest. Snapping the spine and the neck as well as beheading is how werewolves are permanently silenced here. The other one joined in and they both laughed at me. They mocked me. One of them spat on my face. "Murderer. You've got some friends here by the way. They've been waiting for an extra member." He said and they all burst into laughter again and it made me wonder what was exactly funny. They were laughing at my predicament. They were all monsters. I was framed and no one was willing to hear me out. They were looking for a murderer to pin it on and Adam presented me. I was left in that disgusting dungeon that had a lot of dry blood and bones, chained to the wall. I was scared. I've never really had a plan for my life and I've never really been afraid of talking about death but now that it was right in front of me, I was terrified.
