Chapter Six: The Secret She Never Expected

426 Words
For the first time in a long time, Juliet felt hopeful. Albert's words kept replaying in her mind. There are possibilities we need to explore. Sam. Her brother. The person she had searched for, cried for, and almost convinced herself she would never find. Now there was a chance. A real chance. But a few days later, something felt different. At first, Juliet ignored it. She blamed the tiredness on work. She blamed the mood swings on stress. She blamed the strange feeling in her stomach on everything that had happened recently. Her life had become a storm. Connor's confession. The misunderstanding. Gabriel. Albert. Sam. It was too much for anyone. But then she started noticing things she couldn't explain. The smell of certain foods suddenly made her feel sick. She found herself exhausted even after sleeping. She stood in front of the mirror one morning, staring at herself. "What is wrong with me?" She placed a hand on her stomach, confused by the unfamiliar feeling. "No..." The thought came suddenly. And immediately, she pushed it away. It couldn't be. She had too many things happening. She couldn't add another problem. But the doubt stayed. Later that day, she quietly walked into a pharmacy. She didn't tell Blossom. She didn't tell Connor. She didn't tell anyone. She bought the test and returned home with a heart full of fear. The small box sat on the bathroom counter for several minutes. Juliet stared at it. She had faced difficult moments before. She had fought for herself. She had searched for Sam when everyone else gave up. But somehow, this tiny box scared her more than anything. Her hands trembled as she opened it. Minutes passed. The room felt too quiet. Then she looked down. And everything stopped. Two lines. Two small lines that changed everything. Juliet's breath caught. "No..." She shook her head as if the answer would disappear. But it didn't. She sat down slowly, still holding the test. Her eyes filled with tears. She didn't know whether they were tears of fear... or shock... or something else. Her entire life had just shifted. A baby. A secret. A future she hadn't planned for. She looked at the test again, unable to move. And one question entered her mind. Who was the father? Juliet covered her mouth as the weight of the truth finally reached her. The answers she had been searching for about her past were finally coming closer. But now... she had a new secret of her own. A secret that could change everything.
