Chapter 1
Amara's POV:
After we were married, my husband, Keith Carrington, lied and told me he was impotent.
But later, I uncovered a secret he had hidden for a very long time.
It turned out he had been having an affair with his younger brother's wife even before our wedding. Marrying me had never been anything more than a cover‑up.
He had saved himself entirely for her, and for two full years of marriage, he never once touched me.
I had no intention of being the fool tricked into a sham marriage.
So after carefully planning every detail, I took my husband's younger brother with me to catch them in the act.
The day their affair came out into the open and the whole mess erupted, I was right there. All four of us were present.
My brother‑in‑law, Knox Carrington, made his decision instantly; he wanted a divorce. His wife, Audrey Hale-Carrington, meanwhile, sobbed until she could barely breathe, putting on such a soft, pitiful act that if I had been a man, I probably would have rushed to comfort her.
But my husband? He was every bit the "devoted man" in his own mind. He was beside himself with concern.
He dropped to his knees right next to her and even raised his own hand to slap himself, just to show he would stand with her through anything.
True love conquers all, apparently.
Since his brother was being so uncompromising, my husband couldn't hold back any longer. He roared at him.
"Look at her! She's such a good woman, and she's crying so hard she's about to faint! How can you be so heartless? Just standing there like it means nothing!"
As the only sensible man in the whole family, Knox was absolutely furious.
"Keith, do you even realize what you're saying? She's your brother's wife!" he thundered, glaring at Keith.
Caught red‑handed sleeping with his own brother's wife, this scumbag didn't have the decency to flinch. Instead, he shot right back.
"So what if she's your wife?" Keith shot back coldly. "Have you ever actually treated her like one?"
He took another step forward, his voice growing sharper with every word.
"Think about it," he said bitterly. "How often are you even home? You disappear on business for three or four months at a time, leaving her here all by herself."
He let out a mocking laugh before continuing.
"Day after day, she's alone. When she's exhausted, when she's hurting, where are you?" His eyes locked onto his brother's. "Where's the husband who's supposed to be by her side?"
It almost sounded reasonable if you completely ignored who was speaking.
I stood up and, without hesitation, slapped Keith hard across the face.
"So that's how you justify it? You 'took care of her' by climbing into her bed? I've been married for two years, and I'm still a virgin. Why didn't you think to 'take care' of me in the same way?"
Keith flew into a rage and immediately turned his anger toward me.
He claimed he had married me only because he thought I was quiet, obedient, and easy to handle.
Now he said he had misjudged me completely, that I was actually restless and trouble‑making.
"Damn it," he spat, "I never should have married you in the first place. I'm so disappointed in you!"
'What a perfect display of double standards.'
In his eyes, sleeping with his brother's wife and getting caught in bed together was just a normal act of kindness.
But when I simply exposed the truth? Suddenly, I was the one causing problems.
"Amara, can't you try to be reasonable?" he said. "I only made the same mistake any man with a caring heart might make. Why is it so unforgivable?
"You're a woman too, don't you see how miserable Audrey is? Don't you have even a little bit of sympathy?"
I felt sympathy for stray cats and dogs wandering the streets.
But I would never feel the slightest bit of pity for these two creatures, who were worse than animals.
