NEW FRIEND

THIRD POV The wind blew silently against the hospital curtains casting soft glows on Ida as slept soundly on the hospital bed. After touching the forbidden portrait, no one knew what had happened to her. No one dared help her either—not with the nobles watching. Except Kimberly. As a supposedly believed omega, Kimberly had been taught since birth where she stood in society. Who she could speak to. Who she couldn’t. But she couldn’t just stand by. She channeled every ounce of strength she had to help Ida. Now, she sat quietly by the bed, watching her intensely. She placed her hands on Ida's head channelling her energy into hers as she chanted some unknown spells bringing her from the brinks of death. Ida's body jerked off abit before suddenly going still. Silence pierced the room as Kim showed a faint smile. The door burst open, making Kim lift her hands almost immediately from Ida's head. It was as though she was hiding her powers from the world. “Ida?” Cassie rushed in, her face pale with fear. She reached the bed and grabbed her daughter’s hand, guilt written all over her face. “If I’d taken you around myself, this wouldn’t have happened,” she whispered. “I’m so sorry, my child. Please wake up soon. Mommy needs you.” Kimberly watched them quietly. Mother and daughter. They smelled different. Like outsiders. Almost human, or so they were! Suddenly, Cassie turned. Her eyes softened when she saw Kimberly, and she pulled the girl into a hug. “Thank you for bringing my daughter here,” Cassie said. “I owe you more than I can say.” Kimberly froze, stunned by the contact with royalty. Cassie pulled back and noticed how thin Kimberly looked. Fear still lingered in her eyes. “You don’t need to worry,” Cassie said gently. “I’m not going to be harsh with you. I’m a doctor here, and I’m here to help. This is my daughter, Rashida—but we call her Ida. You saved her. Who knows what would have happened if you hadn’t brought her in?” “It’s my duty towards Her Highness to take care of her,” Kimberly said, bowing politely. “You’re welcome, my Queen. I’m Kimberly, your faithful servant.” “What?” Cassie frowned. “No, I think you’ve mistaken us for someone else, dear. We’re just here to help the people. After that, we’ll leave.” She paused. “Do you go to the same school as her?” “Yes, ma’am. We’ll be in the same class too,” Kimberly said, offering a small smile. “I’ll help Her Highness discover her strength. I’ll be there to protect her.” “I believe you’ll be one of the loveliest friends my daughter has ever had,” Cassie said, taking Kimberly’s hands in hers. “I’ll tell her about you. I hope you become close.” “I’m glad I met you, Kim,” Cassie continued. “It’s getting late. Your parents must be worried. I’ll meet you at the school entrance tomorrow with Ida. I want to make sure she’s in safe hands.” “No need, Your Highness,” Kimberly said with a smile. “Destiny will make us meet, even if we resist it.” She bowed and walked out of the ward. Cassie stared after her. Kim had the features of an elegant woman, but she was humble and down-to-earth. Hazel eyes, shoulder-length blonde hair, curves that turned heads despite her plain clothes. A simple, jeans dress. But her beauty couldn’t be hidden. “Mom?” Ida’s voice broke through Cassie’s thoughts. She was awake. “Oh my God, Ida!” Cassie said, her voice shaking. “What happened to you? Why did you collapse like that? After this, you’re getting a full body checkup, young lady. No more weird behavior.” “Come on, Mom. It’s not like I died,” Ida said, trying to reassure her. “I feel fine now, actually. I don’t really remember what happened. I guess I was just exhausted from walking around the school. It’s huge. And I think I’m going to like it.” Cassie frowned. A few minutes ago, Ida had texted her saying she hated the school. Now she loved it? Is she well? Cassie didn’t want to stress her daughter, so she smiled and patted her head. “If you like it, that’s all that matters, dear,” Cassie said. “And there’s someone you should thank when you get to school. I think you two will be great friends. Her name is Kimberly. She stayed with you until I got here. Invite her for dinner tomorrow, okay?” “Sure, Mom. I see you have a new favorite now,” Ida said, rolling her eyes. “First it was Kate, and now it’s Kim? I’m jealous, Cassandra. I’m your only favorite. That’s it. Puff.” Cassie laughed and hugged her daughter. “No one can take your place in my heart, my angel. You are the only I see now". But her eyes drifted to the door. Patients needed her. Duty called. “Mom, you can go,” Ida said, sensing her struggle. “I’m a strong girl now. I’m a woman. I can handle everything from this point." “Oh, my little baby,” Cassie whispered, hugging her one more time. “I’ll be back as soon as I’m done, okay?” “Okay, Mom. But I’ll come find you instead, alright? Bye! Kisses!” Cassie hesitated at the door. “I have no idea why people are suddenly falling sick, and getting severely injured too" she murmured. “It’s not an infection. Not a virus. They get sick and wounded like a wild animal has attacked them, then they recover very fast.” Her brow furrowed. “It’s like something is triggering it. Or probably something is attacking them" “I wonder what that is…” –
