The Demon I Created

"Crash". I woke up startled by the noise. It came from my parents room? Were they fighting? I wore my slippers hurriedly, nearly tripping over my own foot and dashed to the second corridor where their room was. Being dressed in my pajamas and hair bonnet still intact on a Monday morning while it's thirty minutes past seven,I stood frozen at the door. Should I peek or just enter? Me entering in this state while I should be almost if not done and ready for school would be a second reason for whatever they are fighting about. Upon closer inspection I decided to go with the later idea and just peeked at them. I saw Mom in her red nightgown looking as beautiful as always while Dad was in his suit ready for work as usual. She had tears streaming down her face as she held a phone towards dad who looked as white as a sheet. Dad looked really exhausted and I wonder why? I looked at mom who looked shocked while crying and I wondered what's happening for her to break down like this? I stood there for a while as her eyes were locked in Dad's. "Victor,were you going to tell me this huh?! Who's this person whom you can't stay away from? Mom asked crying really hard in front of dad. Who's the other woman Victor? What? Another woman? Dad has been talking to another woman? As in an affair or what? I took a step back from shock crashing into the mirror on the wall behind me. "How could dad do this to me? To mom? To us?Why would he do the one thing he condemned others for and also advised others against?" I held onto my chest finding it difficult to breathe. Mom rushed out,followed by Dad who both looked at me with worry. I looked at my mom,eyes red and puffy from all the tears she's shedding. I wonder how she's feeling right now after seventeen years of a perfect marriage. I had once told mom I want a man like dad, but now, looking at him I prefer a life of stability and peace. "Ida?" I heard my mom call like she always does even though my name is Rashida. I didn't bother to look back at them and just said I'm ok. I think I should start preparing for school since dad is already dressed. I walked towards my room head bent. Dad has always been the perfect role model of a good husband and now this is happening. Another woman?! I got to my room not knowing what to do nor even how to prepare for school. I looked at my beautiful room with a princess bed that dad bought for me a few weeks ago to celebrate my birthday. "We were a happy family then so what's changing now?" I looked at the family pictures we took while on spring and summer breaks around the world. We looked so happy. "Is dad going to leave us for another family?" I don't think I'd be able to live without both parents by my side. I'm in need of a stable home and a stable family, not a broken one!" I got to the shower and turned on the faucet,soaking my nightdress and hair bonnet together with my body. Maybe I'd wake up after this and realize whatever I heard about another woman was just a bad dream. "Ida,are you in there?". I heard my mom's calm voice behind the door. She sounded calm for a woman who just found out her husband is cheating on her. "I'm bathing mom! I'd be out in a sec! I said not wanting her to be worried. She has this tendency of when you don't reply to her, she thinks something bad has happened to you. I won't be surprised if she breaks down this door just to see if I'm ok when I don't respond to her calls. "Okay dear,I just wanted to tell you that I'm the one taking you to school today,she said. "Your dad had an emergency at work so he left". I sat there quietly not responding to what she said. After a while I heard the door clicking softly,she had left. I got up groggily and began to remove my clothes. It felt like all the strength I had in me had just vanished into thin air. All kinds of thoughts began to form in my head as I recalled what I saw earlier. Mom is being so calm could it be that I was hallucinating?. Dad didn't even come to say goodbye like he always does when there's an emergency at work and he can't drive me to school. "What's really happening?" I closed my eyes,using my vanilla shampoo to wash my hair. I had such long hair people mostly thought I'd added some to it. I got that from my dad,he's so hairy he sometimes resembles a wolf. The washing did a great job as I was more relaxed. I took a bath finally,brushed my teeth and came out of the bathroom. I sat in front of the mirror and began drying my hair. Something seemed off lately with me. I zone out sometimes and I don't know what's up with my mind. I looked at my face, particularly my eyes as it flashed in gold glisters. I shook my head and got up quickly. I won't see those eyes again! Not in a happy mood today I wore black pants and a black top. Mom's a doctor and I don't want to keep her waiting especially now after what's going on beneath the surface of this family. I got downstairs and saw she's already packed my lunch. She wore a white t-shirt and blue jeans with her blonde hair tied messy. She had blonde hair while I had black like dad,even so we had the same beautiful brown eyes. She hugged me upon seeing me without saying a word. The silence killed me more than anything, it just paced me to think about every possible worst scenario that could happen. "Shall we go now dear", she asked and I just nodded. We got in the car as she drove off to school. Mom's phone started ringing and a name flashed on the screen. "PERRY" I was about to grab it, but she was a second faster than me and shoved it into her bag. Her face was deadly pale. And all from one name!
