POV IDA
I gave my mom a suspicious look as her smile became tight.
Thankfully we were at the doorsteps of the school. I grabbed my lunch and got out of the car. I noticed she stayed there for a while, hitting her head lightly on the headrail.
I believe we both didn't want to break down in front of each other. Mom and I have the closest bond ever.
She's a friend to me aside from being my Mom and I tell her everything about me. Being a crush, abnormal periods or some silly gossip at school. She's always ready to listen.
I believe she needs space from all this, actually we both need space. I know she's really hurt with this but I don't know how to comfort her.
She doesn't show her pain to anyone and that's how strong I know my mom, Cassandra, to be.
I'd silently wait for her to come to me and voice out all her worries to me. I really hope this other woman's nuisance ends soon and they go back to being the perfect couple.
I went straight to class after noticing her igniting her car to leave.
I had only one friend, and that's Kate. She's the absolute opposite of me.
Full of energy and very social while me on the other hand I'm social to my parents only and those I can relate with.
I needed someone to talk to and she's the perfect candidate for that.
I got to class and saw her already there studying. Being free spirited and the heir to a fortune, most people wondered why she killed herself for education.
She's going to inherit everything but her Dad is really strict on her grades at school. He threatens to give his fortune as charity if she fails any subject before college.
"Hey girl" I said lazily, dropping my bag on the chair and taking my seat beside her. She looked at me and started smiling.
"What's up girl,I know something is disturbing you because you are in your favorite pants"!she said.
"Ha,ha so funny Kay",I said, shortened for Kate. These aren't my favorite pants but yeah something is really wrong.
I ended up telling her everything that happened today and the fear of my parents getting divorced. If there's one thing my mother never tolerates then it's cheating.
She'd leave you without a second thought or glance if you ever cheat in any form. I didn't even know what to do now!
Kate said nothing and just hugged me. It was a warm hug that said everything would be fine so don't lose hope.
We spoke for a while after breaking the hug. Talking to her seemed to have evaporated my tense nerves. The teacher came in and lessons began.
Pushing behind every thought from home, I gave my full concentration to my studies.
School was over and I dreaded the feeling of having to go home after what happened earlier. I stood at the entrance waiting for Mom or Dad to come pick me up.
I waved Kay as her chauffeur had come to pick her.
I stood there for a while but no one came to pick me. The sun was already setting but still no car. I tried calling both of them as the school was almost empty, but both sent me straight to voicemail.
Maybe mom's in a surgery, that's a reasonable explanation for her phone leading to voicemail but with Dad?
I had no idea why I was getting a bad feeling about this. I walked towards the junction and hailed a cab home. I got home half an hour later to see the front door opened?
"Was someone home?or maybe...a burglar?"
With that thought in mind I took out my pepper spray ready for action. Everywhere was quiet, too quiet to seem that someone's in there.
AH!
I heard a scream making me drop the spray from fright. That's mom's voice. Things began to bang and shatter everywhere.
I runned quickly to her room,
"What could be happening now?"
I went and saw a kneeling mom in front of dad, desperately holding onto his trousers. Things were messy and scattered everywhere. Clothes thrown out of the closet, lamps shattered, bed unkept. Everything was messy!
"How could you give my number to her? Mom said.
"Please Victor, please!. Don't do this to us. I love you so much Victor. Her voice broke, raw and painful as she cried.
I could see how this is tormenting her. They both fell in love at first sight and got married.
"Why was this happening now?"
I stood there trembling as the fear dawned on me,this might be their separation.
I knew Mom as a strong woman, but now I realize even the strongest can break down.
"Victor!...please say something"!
She cried. Her voice, her pain, it just cracked something in me. I suddenly felt the urge to kill something or someone!
Her pain was so raw and Dad just stood there not even making an attempt to comfort his wife. Tears blurred my vision as I saw my mom beg my dad to stay.
"How could he be so insensitive towards his own wife?" My heart was breaking with her wrenching wails echoing in the house.
I've never seen her like this before!.
"I'd see you in court next week Cassie, Dad said with no emotion whatsoever in his voice. I'm fighting for custody of Ida, with what's happening and about to happen she'd be better off with me."
"Wait, what?!
I said, finding my voice. "No Dad! No one is fighting for anyone. We would work this out!. We..are..family Dad!". You can't do this to us,to me...to mom! I screamed as my voice echoed.
It really didn't sound like me but I was angry, too angry as the world I knew was crumbling before my very eyes.
"I need an explanation for this Dad!"
My chest heaved up and down, anger surging through me. My nose flared like a bull,my eyes widened making my mouth pin small as I looked at dad like a prey.
"Ida", my Dad said. Rushing towards me as he held my cheeks calming the anger in me. It's like he knew how to tame this anger within me.
"One day you will understand everything, and that's when you will know I have no control of myself and I need to leave your Mom. One-day you will understand!"
With that he left without looking back. I turned to mom. She was already numb, sitting silent, tears falling slow and painful.
If this is love,I don't want it!. I ran to her and hugged her tight.
She wept louder!.
