POV: VICTOR
I drove off in my car with Perry sitting right beside me.
I had mixed feelings about this.
On one side was Perry. On the other side was Cassie and our seventeen years of marriage, with Ida as our symbol of love.
How do I explain to Cassie that I have no control over the bond I have with Perry? Even if I did control it, I'd be putting an innocent person through unbearable pain.
I love my wife, Cassie. But the mate bond also made me fall for Perry.
She's the most beautiful woman I've ever seen. She senses my problems without me saying a word, and our bond is unbreakable.
Sensing my agitated mood, she held my hand tight as I inhaled her scent. She smelled like peaches, and I really loved it. It had a way of calming me down from every heartache.
The ride to our house was very quiet, and I loved that she respected my privacy when I didn't want to talk.
I moved in with her to a new penthouse I bought just for us. I needed time and privacy to get a grasp on what was really going on.
What had turned my happy family upside down? This situation was hurting both parties.
She had searched for me her entire life, never giving up on the fact that I was still alive and that I'd be hers soon. Only for me to end up married-to a human who had no idea who or what I am-because I wanted so badly to forget the past.
I could understand the kind of self-control she was putting in right now. Wolves don't have this kind of control, especially when they find out that their mate is married and already has a daughter.
We got to the house, and I helped her get down from the car.
The house was eerily quiet, and I knew we weren't alone.
"Whoever you are, show yourself now and bring forth your message!" I said, knowing perfectly well that this person could hear me.
Perry sat down, looking attentively at what was happening.
After a few moments, a dark shadow emerged. I couldn't see his face well, but one thing was clear-he was a messenger from the pack.
"Your Highness," he said as he bowed to me. "I have a message for you."
"Go ahead and speak what you have to say to me," I said, granting him permission.
Being the heir to the last descendants of the Lycan, I was made king officially after I met my mate, Perry.
I had really wanted to escape this past of mine, but it seemed the truth would always resurface. I had no idea what would happen to Cassie and Ida when they found out the truth.
"There has been a vision," he said. "And that vision threatens the life of your daughter. If you really want her to be at peace, allow her mother to cater for her. Then, and only then, shall she be able to live.
The life she has ahead won't be easy. She needs to be prepared, as the demon threatens to wake up."
"She has powers, Victor," he said slowly this time. "And those powers can either destroy her or create her into something beautiful. The red moon came today-she's waking up.
The best option is to never let her find out who she is. That would put her in a lot of danger.
The Council of Elders is unwilling to accept her as the one who can control the beast, and her being human threatens her more. My most trusted one made me send this information to you.
There's a rebel planning to kill your daughter before her identity as human destroys the wolf clan again. We don't want history to repeat itself."
He disappeared immediately after delivering his message.
I stared at the spot where he had stood moments ago, and my daughter's smiling face flashed before my eyes.
I'd do anything to protect her. I'd make sure nothing happened to her.
When I was a kid, before the ambush that killed my parents, I used to hear of an old prophecy the high priestess talked about.
The demon with red eyes, whose mate would awaken him with her blood...
"Don't tell me you agree to that, Victor," Perry's beautiful voice rang out in the room.
"I've seen your daughter, and she's destined to become a Luna. She'd be a great queen, Victor.
Allow her to find the wolves herself. Allow her to bond with her mate before history repeats itself. If she and her mate have a bond, then nothing can destroy that.
You and I know how powerful the mate bond is."
She said it, and I found sense in what she said.
"Make her see things herself and decide on her own. Either way, we would find a solution if things don't go the way they're meant to."
"I know, Perry," I said. "But the thing is, Cassie is human, and I don't know what Ida will be. If she turns out to be human and I take her to the land of wolves, she'd be in great danger."
"Then let's go together," she said. "Let's protect your daughter together, but from a distance if that won't raise suspicions for the Council.
I've seen them, and I know what they do when they set their sights on something. They might be watching your daughter as we speak.
We all have different conceptions about what happened centuries ago. You are my mate, and your daughter is also my daughter.
Don't allow Ida to go through what Cassie is going through now. Let her find her mate. Allow her to write her destiny with the one the Moon Goddess has bestowed to her.
No woman can bear such pain-the pain of not being with the one you love. I believe the mate bond would protect them both.
Now all we need to know is: who is her mate?"
I looked into her eyes and nodded at her suggestion.
Ida would go to the biggest werewolf town. There's a lot of chance her mate would be there.
I hugged Perry, finding comfort and warmth in her embrace.
Ida would go to Swandville.
I'd make sure of that!

And I'd make sure of that!
