Confronting the Alpha

Jason followed her into an empty conference room off of the courtroom, both men entering before she did and closed the door. "Hello Rebecca, long time no see." Jason said smoothly as she looked at him. "My name isn't Rebecca anymore and your Pack isn't supposed to be here. So be a good little boy and deliver this to Thomas for me." she said pulling an envelope out of the bag. "We were ordered to be here by Alpha Morgan. Your parents will be interested to know you are here, they have been looking for you for two years." Jason replied evenly as he looked at it. "Well than deliver it to Morgan, I could care less who your Alpha is now. As for your lies about those f*****g morons that pretend they are my parents, I could care even less than I do about your Alpha. Inform him next time, the penalty for disobedience will be triple what he owes me now." she told both of them before she turned and opened the door. "Get lost and if I find someone from your Pack following me, you will find their corpse delivered to you. Fair warning and all." "You know we can't just recall someone following the Alpha's orders." Michael said defending their actions. Abigail smiled at him. "What you do in the next twenty minutes is your business, of anyone from the Bright Horn Pack follows me for even a block, their corpse will be delivered to the Pack gates. If that means Morgan has to get off his lazy ass and do real work, so be it. You have been warned, especially as I do not fall under the jurisdiction of your pathetic Pack. So I suggest you hurry, you now have 18 minutes to prevent someone you know and supposedly care about from dying." she said before they both ran for the exit. As soon as Jason, Michael and Lucas entered the Alpha office where Morgan and Thomas were discussing what to do, Morgan looked at them with his eyes wide in surprise. He knew what he was smelling wasn't any of them, but someone they had contact with. "Who did you interact with?" he demanded looking at the 3 men as he tried to control his Wolf that was going crazy. "Ms. Houston sir, she said to give this to you. We brought Lucas back with us against orders because she informed us if she found someone following her she would have their corpse delivered to the gate." Jason replied quickly as both Morgan and Thomas looked at him a little surprised. "She is a werewolf?" Thomas asked him surprised as they hadn't been warned. "Yes sir, more specifically her name used to be Rebecca Stanton." Jason said as both men were even more shocked. That was the Beta's youngest daughter, the one who had run away two years earlier instead of returning to the Pack. "Where is she now?" Morgan demanded as Thomas looked at him. "Why son? We need this hearing to go in our favor and if we interfere..." he trailed off as Morgan looked at him. "She is my Fated Mate." he said as her scent wafted from the package of paperwork he had on his hand. "What happened?" Jason smiled remembering what she had done. "The case has been dismissed sir, with prejudice. In fact she was so eloquent on her argument the judge didn't even allow the sleaze the chance to refute her filed arguments before ruling that it had to go to the Supernatural Courts in accordance with the Treaty." Thomas sat down stunned, as that was what they had wanted from the beginning. "She managed it in just a few days?" he asked as Morgan opened the envelope and read what she had sent. "Jason, find out where she is and inform me at once. She and I have a few matters to discuss." Morgan said sending them away before he sat down and made a phone call to the office she had been sent from. Abigail had just returned to her hotel after spending a good portion of her day preparing for the next phase of this case, as she fully intended to seek the fees that her former Pack had spent defending their territory from Harrisville's blatant overreach. No sooner than she hung up the phone from ordering room service, her phone rang with her boss calling. "Hello Henry, what is it?" she asked answering the phone knowing the man didn't make calls like this for small talk. "I hear congratulations are in order." he said trying to make the small talk he used when he had something to ask he knew the person wasn't going to like. She sighed as she turned on the news channel. "For that pitiful win?" she asked glumly. "Why don't we drop the chit chat you hate and you ask what it is you really called me for? I have an early flight to catch tomorrow." she said bluntly. "About that, something has come up that the board has asked you be assigned to handle until a permanent replacement can be found." he said as she growled. "What did Morgan and Thomas offer to get them to appoint me as the interim manager of this location?" she asked seeing through the bullshit he was trying to heap on her. "How the hell did you figure that out so quickly?" Henry asked surprised at how she asked. Abigail actually laughed at the fact he as much as admitted it that quickly. "Considering the fact that 3 months ago I was quote 'too young and inexperienced to manage an office', them making me one now makes no sense unless someone intervened. Add to that you are calling me tonight so I can cancel my flight, means they don't want me too leave this district. While my parents might be able to make the request, they don't have the ability to get the board to give me a position I can't refuse. That leaves exactly two people in this entire district that might give a s**t one way or another that have the connections to do what you are requesting. Plus, you didn't hire me for my looks, so no games. Why should I stay here and not tell the board to f**k off?" she asked him bluntly. Henry sighed as he had known this would not be an easy task. "I don't have all the details of their decision, all I know is that this morning after your win they met and voted to appoint you as the interim manager since Kevin died. Whether Morgan and Thomas are involved is just a guess, but as Thomas is good friends with Mr. Prescott, it would be my guess he requested it. I don't know why, but they approved it. Please don't do anything hasty, there is a big client conference tomorrow they want you to run as the new manager." he told her honestly knowing she would see through the lies. Abigail thought about it for a moment, knowing she only really had two choices. Stay here and remain employed, or quit and find a new job. Something she didn't want to do at this point. "Tell the board I want double what Kevin was making, non negotiable to remain here. Otherwise I quit, they have until my flight leaves tomorrow morning to have the contract couriered here for my review." "That is a steep price." Henry replied knowing how much Kevin had made. "That is what it will take to get me to agree to this. I didn't want to come here in the first place, now they are asking me to stay for who knows how long?" she retorted evenly. "I came as a favor to you for no additional money, for them, I am not lifting a finger for a credit less. If that means I begin looking for a new job tomorrow, so be it. I am sure with my record over the last two years and my specialty that there are plenty of firms that would take me now." Henry sighed knowing she was absolutely right, as there was a high demand for her skills now that she was one of two people in the entire continent that had her special knowledge of the Supernatural Treaty laws. "Consider it done, you will have the contract first thing in the morning." he answered as they had told him to do whatever it took to get her to agree. "Than I will see you Friday. Have Jessica pack my office for me as well as what I will need from my apartment. I will also need temporary housing here, as I refuse to stay in that Pack." she said knowing an apartment was one of the perks Kevin had enjoyed. "It will all be included in the new contract tomorrow. Jessica has also agreed to continue as your Paralegal at the new office." he informed her quickly. "I need her to pack my office and what I need from my apartment, I will send her the details myself. I assume at some point they will want to meet with me?" she asked as he chuckled. "As a Branch Manager you will be in the weekly status conference Friday morning, anything they need from you can come from them directly from now on. I want you to know I tried arguing against this." he said gloomy as he knew what he was losing. "That is why I am not telling you that you owe me one for this, also why it is costing them so much as I don't do favors for people I don't know." she replied before hanging up as there was a knock at the door. The next morning Abigail was in her new office, going through the files Kevin had meticulously maintained as Managing Partner. She knew it was getting close to the time of her appointment when the most intense scent filled her nostrils as she looked up. 'Mate.' her Wolf said in her mind as she sighed. Exactly what she didn't want, especially as the only Pack in this territory was the Bright Horn Pack. 'Please don't do anything rash.' Ember pleaded with her as her temporary assistant knocked on the door. "Your client is here in the conference room." she said as Abigail nodded. "I will be there in a moment." she replied as the woman nodded and went to her desk as Abigail stood and walked to the conference room she had selected. She paused at the door for only a moment, the scent confirming that her Mate was indeed on the other side of the door. So she braces herself as she opened it, Alpha Morgan Horn sitting at the far end gripping the table tightly while her brother Derrick sat next to him staring at her with eyes wide in surprise as he saw her. "Not one f*****g word Morgan." she said sitting at the far end of the table from him. "So it is Abigail now is it?" Morgan asked making her stomach flutter with the sound of his voice. "It is, but this changes absolutely nothing about my decision. I left for a reason and won't return willingly." she replied as Derrick scoffed. "You think mom and dad will let you leave like that again?" He asked in disbelief. Abigail looked right at him, her eyes full of hatred. "You think your parents somehow have a right to interfere in my life? Maybe it is time your Pack learns a lesson about God damn respect Derrick. If you want the first lesson, I will gladly educate you." "Whoa, we didn't come here for that. Derrick, either shut your mouth or get out. We are here on Pack business, not to satisfy your curiosity about your sister." Morgan said voice full of authority as Derrick shook his head. "I have already filed a claim for attorney fees and court costs in regards to the case that was dismissed yesterday. As for you Morgan, if you ever interfere in my life again, I will slit your throat and leave you there to consider the consequences while you drown on your blood. I don't give a s**t who I am to any of your worthless mutts, I am not part of your Pack and have no need to coddle any of you. Stay the f**k out of my way and we will get along just fine while I am here." she told him as she stood and turned to leave. "Is that how you speak to clients?" Morgan asked. "If you don't like it, find someone else. I don't have time to hold the hand of a worthless Mate to teach him how the world really works. Next time, send a f*****g email, the less I see if you mutts, the better." Abigail finished before storming out of the building.
