Chapter Forty-Five

212 Words
Early the next day, Caleb got up from what had been a restless night and prepared for the day ahead. He’d spent the entire night battling his wolf that had been against leaving the barbeque and their mate behind. On any other night, he would have left the pack grounds and slept in the city at his lab. However, he had to meet with Aiden early today to find out who would be assigned as his bodyguard for the foreseeable future while he worked on creating the vaccine. So it hadn’t made sense to leave the pack grounds only to have to return. Although it did make it stressful, to say the least, to remain on pack grounds and not seek out his mate. Now he was exhausted and he had a full day ahead of him. He could only hope Aiden had already identified the enforcer who would be going along with him so he didn’t have too much of a long wait. As an alpha wolf, he was more than capable of defending and protecting himself. However, he had to admit he was somewhat of a nerd and when entrenched in his research he tended to tune his surroundings out in order to focus on his work. It was for this reason he did not argue with the alpha when he insisted he take an enforcer with him when he was working at the lab. The enforcer would stand guard and ensure he and his research was kept safe while he would be free to work without being encumbered by the need to be alert.
