VENUS'S POV The first thing I noticed as I walked into mum's room was how eerily quiet it was. I had left Sam and Mila with her but it was obvious they had left too. Could I blame them? They both had enough on their plates, especially Mila. Gareth stood quietly next to the door—watching me—as I moved towards the bed, surprised at the state my mother was in. I could remember vividly how lively and flashy she used to look. At a point, I had even been envious of how youthful she looked in comparison to me, her daughter. But the woman lying unconscious on the bed looked nothing like the Francisca I used to fight with. What happened to you, mum? I knew she couldn't hear my voice, much less my thoughts but it didn't stop me from asking my questions. What should I do to make everything better
