Chapter ThirteenFor Paul, burying himself in work was only effective for a limited amount of time. In the law business, one's workload frequently ebbs and flows, and seldom is there just the right amount. Usually, either there is too much to do or not enough. Lawyers refer to the phenomenon as “feast or famine.” Although circumstances could change with one phone call from a client with a huge new assignment, by late afternoon, Paul was approaching a mild period of famine. Without tons of work to occupy him, despite his best efforts, his thoughts returned to Evelyn. He had to see her and try to patch things up. He didn't want to call in advance. He thought that it would be easier for her to brush him off over the phone than if he showed up in person, so he left work early and took a chance
