Chapter 4: Hannah

1063 Words
As I left the house I couldnt help but to think of the memories I had with Beth growing up. She really was the bestfriend I ever had. I groaned as I headed towards the Kings Room Inn. This was the first time I left Silverwood in almost 6 months. After I checked into my room and got settled my thoughts drifted to Lindsey. I'm not surprised she doesnt remember me. She was so young when everything happened. I cant still see Beth laying in a hospital bed, tubes sticking out of her. She begged me to come back to Lindsey and tell her their family history. Also, to help her adjust to the new life these secrets would unlock for her. There is so much she doesnt know, I'm just hoping she takes it all well. Before I know it I'm driving myself crazy with all these thoughts. I think it's time to go for a run and then maybe a nap. As I'm running I cant shake the sight of Beth in the hospital bed. I cant still feel the pain from when she passed. If it hadn't been for Joe, I would have succumbed to the sadness around me. I wonder how Lindsey has dealt with her parents death, was Karen nice to her? Did they raise her properly? Was Lindsey even happy? ..................................................... When I woke up, I was sore from running. I headed straight for the shower. As the warm water soothed me, I tried to think of a plan. How do I break all of this to Lindsey? I've never been so nervous in my life. I know Beth wanted this though. As she laid in the hospital dying, her last request was that I come back for Lindsey before her 21st birthday. She needed someone to tell her. Karen always hated me and disliked Beth. It's like she always knew was different from us. We were both born a week apart, Beth and I. Karen wasn't born until we were 2. That's when Beth's dad left their mom. It was unheard of in our pack to cheat on your mate, let alone with a human. That's exactly what Beth's mom had done. After she gave birth to a completely human daughter the pack had cast her out. When Beth met Harvey, her mate, she was welcomed into his pack seamlessly. Everyone had always adored Beth and Harvey. I was also welcomed into their pack, as my mate was close friends with Harvey. Thinking back to my mate, Joe. I could feel a tear slipping down my face. I missed him so much. It has been almost six months since he passed and it still feels like I've been stabbed in the heart everyday. I shrugged on my jacket and decided it was time for dinner, and then I should try again with Lindsey. I hope I can hold it together this time. I'm not sure why but something tells me to break it to her slowly. ..................................................... As I pulled up to Lindsey's house I could see there were lights on. That's a good sign. It means shes home. Hopefully, she will be alone so we can talk without any interruptions. I held my breathe as I knocked on the door. "Hello?" Asked a young woman I've never seen before. "Hi, I'm looking for Lindsey Parker." I tried to smile through my nerves. I know from the outside I always seem so calm but internally I could have peed my pants. "LINDS!!! DOOR!" And just like that, this young girl shattered her image, of being a quite and well mannered young lady. I have to admit, I liked her already. "Hello again" Lindsey greeted. "Come inside, please. I'll make some tea." "Thank you." I answered as I followed her inside. "I'm sorry to just talk and bolt. I didnt want to overwhelm you all at once." I always wanted to be there for you. "That's okay, it gave me a chance to absorb everything. I do remember aunt Karen talking about my moms friend a few times. She always called her 'Bertha'" Lindsey said as she turned on a burner and started to boil water for tea. Her friend sat on the other side of the island. "I cant believe she still calls me that." I giggled. "She always thought Bertha was a terrible name so she would call me and Beth, Bertha." "I'm Tabitha, by the way." The not-so-quiet young lady extended her hand out to me. "I'm Hannah." I greeted as I shook her hand. She was beautiful with shoulder length blonde hair and emerald green eyes. A very different kind of beautiful compared to Lindsey with her long dark hair and bright blue eyes. "So Hannah, where are you from?" Lindsey asked pulling me from my thoughts. "Silverwood, it's a small town in Ontario. That's where Lindsey was born." Tabitha and Lindsey seemed surprised to hear this. I wonder why? "I always thought I was born here." Lindsey stated with a bewildered look on her face. "Nope." I said popping the p. "Your mom and I grew up here and moved to Silverwood after we graduated university." Just then Tabithas phone rang and she excused herself. I'm so grateful to have a chance to talk to Lindsey alone. "I'm glad you came back, Tabitha and I have been talking and we think you should stay here while you're in town. I'd love to able to get to know you better." Lindsey blurted out, like she was worried she wouldnt ask at all if she didnt ask now. "Well.... sure, as long as I'm not putting anyone out." I answered. I'm going have to get her alone to really be able to talk to her. And what about Tabitha? They're obviously close, but she be trusted to keep a secret like this? Can Lindsey?? "Of course not." Lindsey stated. "We have 3 guest rooms, so you have your pick. We also have a hot tub in the back yard and a hammock all set up if you like star gazing." Wow! I didnt realize how well set up this house was. I wondered how she afforded it. "Do you mind coming with me to grab my stuff?" I asked. Hopefully this would be a good chance to start testing the waters with her.
