Chapter 3: Lindsey

As Louis and Tabithas mom, Mary, left I remembered how much I loved Louis as a brother. Even when he would pick on me he would also protect me. I remember one time he got into a fight with Zach after he told the whole basketball team he was going to take my virginity. Tabitha sighed as she closed the door behind them. "I thought they'd never leave." she half joked. I sighed thinking of everything coming up this week. First we move in here, second I start my first writing job on Monday, and Friday is my 21st birthday. "Well we should get started putting everything away." I said to Tabitha, mostly thinking out loud. "Okay, but only if you agree to go out on the town with me tonight!" Tabitha said excitedly. Of course she wanted to go to have fun. I've been moping around since last week when I caught Robbie. I'm so glad I didnt show him the new house. ......................................... "You ready to go?" Tabitha questioned as she walked into my room. "Almost, should I wear heels for flats?" I asked motioning to my outfit. "Heels, definitely." She said with a wink. "Okay, I'm ready!" We were giggling and talking about where to go when we opened the front door. As we looked down we noticed the beautiful bouquet of Roses sitting on the top step. Immediately I wondered how Robbie found the new house so fast. Before I could say anything Tabitha started reading the card. "For Lindsey, the most beautiful woman I've ever laid my eyes on. -Your secret admirer. O." "Whos O?" I asked completely puzzled. "How would I know, they're your flowers." Tabitha kept staring at the card like it would magically give us some answers if we just looked at it long enough. "I hope this isnt something creepy." I groaned as we put the flowers on the island in the kitchen. "Flowers should never be creepy." Tabitha countered. "I think its sweet." All the way to the bar I couldnt stop thinking about this O person. Who was he? Did he know I broke up with Robbie or was it a coincidence? Did he go to the university with me? "Stop it. I can hear your brain working. I'm sure it's just a guy who thinks you're hot!" My bestfriend said trying to comfort me. "So hes blind?" I ask sarcastically. I know I'm pretty but I'm not nearly as beautiful as Tabitha. Maybe he just got the two of us mixed up? "Were here!" Tabitha announced as we pulled up to cyclone. I've never been here but I know it's a popular club. The girls in university used to try to get me go here but I was always so focused on my studies. I had to, to keep my scholarship. As we made our way into the club I couldnt help but notice how packed it was. "I need a drink!" Tabitha giggled pulling me towards the bar. "Bottle caps?!?!" I asked excitedly. I dont drink much, but I know bottle caps are my favorite. "Alright, but you're gonna have to take care of my hangover." I know that meant breakfast in bed. Tabitha was such a baby with hangovers. "Cheers, B***h!" Tabitha said holding up her shot glass. "Cheers" I repeatedly gleefully, taking my shot. Pretty soon the whole club seemed like it was vibrating from all the people jumping around. I could see tabitha through the crowds, she was laughing and dancing with three guys around her. As I started to walk towards her, I could feel someone watching me. I looked around but everything seemed normal, although the feeling was still haunting me. ................................................... I'm so glad I dont get hangovers. I groan as the hot water runs down me. I cant believe I agreed to make Tabitha breakfast in bed. She gets hangovers everytime she drinks (Most of our freshman year). I turned off the water and headed to my room. I just put on some comfy clothes, sweatpants and a t-shirt. Before I could even reach the stairs there was a knock on the door. I wonder who that could be? We only moved in yesterday. "Hello?" I said as I opened the door. "Hello, I'm looking for Lindsey Parker?" She asked with her hand extended. Like she knew who I was before I even told her. "I'm Lindsey, how can I help you?" I asked, taking the chance to examine this strange woman. She was in her mid 40s, she seemed harmless and kind of nervous. And then as I spoke it was like a light came on in her head, I was who she was looking for alright. "Oh my goodness. I should have guessed, you look so much like Beth." She exclaimed it at me like I was supposed to know I looked like my mother. How does this person even know that? "I'm sorry dear, I'm Hannah. I was your moms bestfriend all her life. Until she met Harvey, your dad, but you probably knew that." I could feel all the blood draining from my face. Who was this woman? Did my mom really have a bestfriend? Why have I never met her before? And of course I knew my fathers name was Harvey! That's pretty much all I knew about my parents really. That and they had met at Brightwood university. "I'm sorry to rush you dear, but do you mind if I come in? I have somethings I feel we should discuss." Silently I moved aside to let her in. I had so many questions buzzing through my head as I followed her into the kitchen. As she sat at the island and I remembered Tabitha. "I was just about to make some breakfast, would you like some?" I asked, finally finding my voice. "Well, if you're offering, sure!" I smiled as I pulled out eggs, bacon, and a frying pan. "So, you knew my mother?" I questioned her, not quite believing it. "Oh yes. We were best friends. Before she passed she I asked that I find you before your 21st birthday. So, here I am!" I let this roll around in my head for a few minutes. "I'm sorry to be blunt. But, why haven't I met you before?" I asked trying to choke back my fear that I really was unwanted by everyone. "Oh we've met honey, we used to be really close until the accident happened. Your aunt, Karen, made sure we never saw eachother again after that." She looked so sincere and apologetic as she explained how things came to be this way. "But, I'm here now, judging from your beautiful home, you arent close with your aunt and uncle anymore. Am I right?" She spoke as though the only thing that has changed in all these years were everybody's age. "Yes, that's right." I answered putting some food on a plate and handing it to her. She continued to speak while I arranged a tray for Tabitha. "Well I'll be staying at the kings room inn all week. Please feel free to stop by if you want to chat some more. I just want you to know you're not alone anymore." I took so much comfort in her kind words. Before I could think of anything to say she was leaving but I knew I'd be seeing her again. I sighed as I grabbed the tray and headed towards Tabithas room. I really need to talk to my best friend about all of this.
