Chapter 2: Louis

1040 Words
"Alright sweetheart. Of course we can help you. I'll make sure. Yes, I promise." I could hear my mother talking to some one on the phone. No doubt, volunteering me to help with something. That was just like my mom though, even when her son was visiting she would help anyone with anything. "Louis... Sweetheart, can you please help your mother with something tonight?" I sigh turning off the TV and getting off the couch. "What can I help you with?" I ask with my million dollar smile. "Well your sister and Lindsey were supposed to move into the new house tomorrow, but Lindsey's having some issues and they needed a night off. I thought it would be nice to finish up packing for them." "Fine. Only for my favorite baby sister though." I joke. "What time are we heading over?" "Right now?" My mother questioned. "Okay, are you ready then?" "Ready!" She beamed. ........................................ "Were we supposed to bring packing supplies?" I asked as we pulled up to my sisters house. "No, they said everything we would need is here." my mother answered putting the jeep in park. I can't shake the feeling that something is wrong as we talk towards the door. Before my mother can put the key in the lock the door swings open, with an angry face on the other side. "Who are you?!" He questions angrily. Before I can think my mother speaks. "I am the owner of this house. Who are you?" She states angrily throwing his question back at him. His face softens, "Sorry ma'am. I'm Lindsey's boyfriend. I -uh- was just waiting for her to come home." He said as he stared at the ground. What a bad liar. I can see the cogs in my mother's head turning. I'm guessing shes heard of him before. "Well she wont be back tonight so I think you better go." She told him sternly. He looked like he didnt quite believe her but he left anyways. Something told me not to trust this guy. Silently, we packed the remaining items in the house and put boxes of important items in the jeep. My mother tackled upstairs and I tackled down. As I packed I thought of Lindsey, we used to be so close. Until she hit puberty, I always thought she was so beautiful. But from what I knew of her aunt and uncle it wouldnt be right for us to be together. When she moved in down the street, Tabitha had befriended her immediately. Both girls being the same age and attending the same school. They've been best friends almost their whole lives. Our family was essentially Lindsey's family. I couldnt risk things not working out between us and ruining things between her and my family. She needs them. "I think all that's left can be picked up by the movers tomorrow." My mother said, shaking me from my thoughts. "Are we dropping this stuff off tonight?" I asked hoping to avoid Lindsey. "Not tonight they're at the Kings room inn." My mother informed me. "We will just bring them their stuff and breakfast in the morning." And with that she slammed the trunk closed. We headed home, and I couldnt stop thinking about that Robbie creep. How long have they been dating? Why would he ever cheat on Lindsey? Did she love him? ................................................ As I walked into the kitchen in the morning, my mother was packing two breakfasts into some containers, probably for the girls. "Good morning Louis, honey. Come have some breakfast before we go to your sisters new home." My mother giggled. She always loved having her kids around. I took a muffin and glass of orange juice. "So I'm coming with you now?" I asked as I sat at the table. "Of course." My mother said matter of factly. "They're going to need your muscles, you're father has to work again today." I sighed as I pushed my now empty plate away. "Does he always have to work when I come visit?" I asked rhetoricly. As usual my mother pushed my question aside. "Now that you're done, let's go!" My mom said grabbing her car keys. As soon as we arrived, I noticed how much bigger this house is than the old house near the university. I have to admit, its smaller than mine. Our parents bought us each a house as university graduation presents. It was a 3 story house with a wrap around porch. It looked old but in excellent shape, kind of like out of a novel. It instantly made me think of Lindsey and her love of books. Before we could even get to the door Lindsey and Tabitha came running out. "Mom! Louis! Welcome to our new home! Isnt it rustic?" Tabitha asked, poking fun at how Lindsey obviously had a say in what house was bought. "Hey! You said I could pick the outside if you pick the inside." Lindsey said laughing it off. "That's true. Thank God, cause we will see the inside more." Tabitha said triumphantly. These two are even more like sisters than last time I saw them, I thought, rolling my eyes. As we headed inside I noticed how beautiful Lindsey is, honestly it's hard not to notice. Like I said I've always had a crush on her, but inside I always knew even if we did get together it wouldnt be the end-all, be-all she always dreamed of. I knew she always dreamed of true love, someone to come save her from her aunt and uncle. Like she was a princess locked in a tower. "Thanks again for your help with the move." Tabitha and Lindsey said sincerely. "It was our pleasure." My mother replied with a smile on her face. "We brought all the important stuff, what time will the movers be here?" "In about an hour, and then we have to unpack it all!" Lindsey laughed. After we unpacked the jeep, the girls said their goodbyes to me and my mother. Obviously excited to start this new chapter of their lives. Before we drove off I couldnt help but notice the sadness on Lindsey's face when she thought no one was looking.
