Chapter 3

Days turned into weeks, and weeks turned into months. I couldn't bring myself to talk to Elias after what I had discovered. Every time I looked at him, all I could see was the monster he had become. But despite my anger and hurt, I still loved him. I couldn't shake the feeling that we were meant to be together, that we were each other's second chance mate. Then, one night, I woke up to find Elias gone. Panic gripped me as I realized that something was wrong. I quickly got dressed and rushed out of our den, following my instincts towards the forest. As I ran through the trees, I heard the sounds of a fierce battle ahead. And then, I saw him. Elias was fighting for his life against a group of rogue werewolves, outnumbered and outmatched. Without a second thought, I rushed into the fray, determined to protect the man I loved. But as I suddenly stopped, remembering that my powers and skills were no match, compared to theirs. I couldn't help but wonder what other secrets he had been keeping from me, and whether we would ever be able to truly trust each other again. As time went on, I started to notice a change in Elias. He no longer went out on hunts as often, and when he did, he was more careful in his approach. He seemed to be trying to make amends for his past mistakes. One day, as I was sitting by the river, Elias came up behind me. I tensed up, not sure if I was ready to face him yet. "I'm sorry," he said quietly, taking a seat beside me. "I know what I did was wrong. I've been trying to make things right, but I don't know if that's enough." "I don't know either," I admitted, turning to look at him. "I want to forgive you, but I don't know if I can forget what you've done." "I understand," he said, taking my hand in his. "But please know that I love you, and I will do anything to make things right between us." I pulled my hand away from his, unsure if I could trust him. "Love isn't enough, Elias," I said, feeling tears well up in my eyes. "I need to know that you won't hurt innocent people again." "I won't," he said firmly, his gaze locking with mine. "I'll do whatever it takes to make amends for my past mistakes." I took a deep breath, trying to steady my racing heart. I wanted to believe him, but I couldn't ignore the fear that still lingered within me. "We have a long road ahead of us," I said, looking away from him. "I need time to think." Elias nodded, his expression pained. "I understand. I'll give you all the time you need. Just know that I'm here for you, no matter what." As the days passed, I struggled with my conflicting emotions. Part of me wanted to forgive Elias and move forward, but the other part couldn't forget the horror I had witnessed. I spent most of my time alone, trying to sort out my feelings. One day, as I was walking through the woods, I sensed someone watching me. I turned around to see a group of wolves, led by a familiar face. It was Jackson, my former mate. "Hello, Nae," he said, a sly grin on his face. "Long time no see." I tensed up, unsure of what to say. "What do you want, Jackson?" He stepped closer, his eyes glinting with malice. "I've been watching you, and I've noticed that you've been spending a lot of time with Elias." "And?" I said, feeling my patience wearing thin. “I missed you, Nae" "And I think it's time for you to remember who your true mate is," he said, baring his teeth. I shuddered, feeling sick at the sight of him. "I don't want anything to do with you," I said, my voice barely above a whisper. He laughed, his teeth glinting in the moonlight. "You don't really mean that, do you? You still love me, Elizabeth. I can feel it." I shook my head, my heart pounding in my chest. "I don't love you. I never loved you." Jackson's face twisted in rage. "You're lying!" he snarled, lunging at me. Before I could react, Jackson's pack attacked me, pinning me to the ground. I struggled against them, trying to break free, but they were too strong. Jackson pounced on me, his hands closing around my throat. I gasped for air, my vision starting to go black. "Stop!" a voice shouted, and the wolves froze. I looked up to see Elias, his eyes blazing with anger. "What do you think you're doing, Jackson?" he growled, his gaze locked on his rival. "I'm reminding Nae of who she belongs with," Jackson sneered, his eyes flickering over to me. "You're nothing but a second-rate mate, Elias. You'll never be able to give her what I can." Elias snarled, his fur bristling. "You don't know anything about us," he spat. "Nae is my mate, and I'll do whatever it takes to protect her." The two werewolves lunged at each other, their claws and teeth clashing in a vicious battle. I watched in horror, unsure of what to do. I shivered in fear as I curled up into a ball on the ground. It was as though something in Elias snapped. With a surge of strength, He broke free from Jackson's grip and lunged at him, sinking his teeth into his neck. The pack howled in surprise and shock as their leader was taken down. Elias approached me with his eyes, shining with pride. Elias approached me, his eyes softening as he saw the fear in my own. He knelt down beside me, his hand brushing my hair back from my face. "Are you okay?" he asked, his voice gentle. I nodded, unable to speak as tears streamed down my face. Elias pulled me into his arms, holding me tightly as I sobbed. I could feel the heat of his body and the strength of his embrace, and it made me feel safe and protected. Eventually, I pulled away, wiping my eyes with the back of my hand. "Thank you," I whispered, my voice hoarse. Elias nodded, his eyes dark with emotion. "I'll always protect you, Nae. No matter what." We stayed there for a few moments longer, just holding each other in silence. But as the adrenaline wore off, I began to feel a deep exhaustion settling in. My body felt heavy and my mind felt foggy. Elias seemed to sense this, and he helped me to my feet, keeping a steady arm around my waist. "Let's get you back to the pack," he said, his voice gentle. As we walked through the woods, I couldn't help but feel a sense of gratitude towards Elias. Despite everything that had happened between us, he had never stopped caring for me. He had always been there, watching over me and protecting me from harm. And as I looked up at him, I began to realize that my feelings for him were starting to change. No longer was he just a friend or a protector – he was becoming something more.
