CHAPTER 1 : THE GIRL WHO WAS NEVER ALLOWED TO SIT ON A STOOL
*THE OBSIDIAN PRINCESS* The first time someone made Aria Blackthorne cry, three companies went bankrupt. She was ten. Lagos Private Academy. Primary 3. Lunch bell. Aria was small for ten. Black hair in two tight ponytails that Vera did every morning. A pink lunchbox that cost more than her teacher's salary. She sat alone, always alone, because Dante told her: "Princesses don't sit with just anyone." Three girls from Primary 6 came. Rich girls. Bullies. "Hey, orphan girl, give us your meat." Aria didn't answer. Vera taught her at 6 years old: _Don't accept bully. Don't look away. Look straight._ She looked straight into the biggest girl's eyes. Her eyes were ice even at ten. "No." The girl laughed and poured a full bottle of cold water on Aria's head. Water dripped down her ponytails, onto her uniform, onto her pink lunchbox. The whole canteen roared with laughter. Aria didn't cry. She didn't shout. She wiped her face with her small hand, closed her lunchbox, and walked out. Quietly. The three bullies shouted behind her: "Crybaby ran! Crybaby ran!" At the gate, a black SUV was parked where it shouldn't be parked. Inside, Vera Blackthorne's driver was watching. He made one call. "Madam, they poured water." Vera Blackthorne said only three words on the phone: "Bring them to me." *The next day, 9 AM.* All three girls did not come to school. Their fathers did. Three fathers in expensive suits were summoned to the 50th floor of Obsidian Tower. The floor where even governors wait outside. Dante Blackthorne's office. Dante Blackthorne — 6'3, black suit, coldest billionaire mafia boss in the country, $90 billion empire, private army. He doesn't raise his voice. He doesn't need to. He showed them a video. Their daughters pouring water on a small girl in two ponytails. Then he looked at them. "My daughter was taught not to bully. Your daughters were not taught. So I will teach you." By Friday of that week: The first father's import license was cancelled. His containers seized at Apapa port. The second father's bank called his loan. $200 million, pay in 24 hours. The third father was removed from Lagos Business Club in front of everyone. On Monday assembly, the three girls knelt in front of the entire school and apologized to Aria, who was still sitting alone, hair now in one ponytail, dry. The principal said: "No one touches Aria Blackthorne again." From Primary 3 until SS3, no one did. --- Until SS1. Aria was fifteen. Already 5'7, beautiful in a way that made teachers uncomfortable. Black hair now long. Eyes still ice. A senior boy liked her. Son of a senator. Rich, spoiled, used to getting girls. He sent her a love letter. She tore it in front of him and dropped it in the bin. He was embarrassed in front of his friends. He grabbed her wrist in the corridor after school. "You think you're special? You think you're princess? I will show you." He squeezed hard. He thought she would cry. Aria remembered what Dante taught her at the shooting range at age twelve, holding a pistol bigger than her hand: "If someone touches you without permission, end them." She didn't shoot. She broke. One move. Vera taught her that move in their pink-tiled gym. _CRACK._ His wrist broke backwards. He screamed so loud the SS3 classes heard it. His senator father came to school the next hour with two policemen, shouting, "Arrest this criminal girl! My son is senator's son!" The principal didn't call the police. He called one number saved as "DO NOT OFFEND - VERA B." Vera came in ten minutes. Black dress, red lips, five guards. She walked past the policemen like they were air. She looked at the senator, smiled, that beautiful terrifying smile. "Your son touched my daughter," she said softly. "My daughter broke his wrist. That's fair. If my husband was here, your son would not have a wrist to break." The senator shouted, "Do you know who I am?!" Vera made one call. By 9 PM that night, Channels TV headline: *SENATOR UNDER EFCC INVESTIGATION FOR CORRUPTION.* By next week, his son was expelled for "violent conduct" and his father lost his ticket for second term. Aria never saw him again. From that day, a rule spread in Lagos among the rich kids, not written anywhere, but everyone knew: *Don't mess with the Obsidian Princess. Even at school, no one dared.* --- *Now. Present Day. Aria is 20.* She stands in her bedroom. Not a normal bedroom. A war between two worlds. Outside the room, the mansion is black marble, black steel, guns on walls, guards in black. Inside her room, everything is pink. Pink bed, pink dolls from when she was 2, pink bubble bath. Vera built it like that. On the bed: a small black suitcase. Inside the suitcase: three things. 1. Dante's custom black pistol with an obsidian logo. 2. A black card with no limit. 3. A chocolate cake Vera baked herself. Vera never bakes. She baked today. Downstairs, Dante and Vera are waiting. Dante Blackthorne, 45, ruthless, terrifying, the man who made three fathers kneel and a senator fall, is standing by the stairs with red eyes. He has not cried since his mother died 30 years ago. He is crying now. Vera Blackthorne, 42, ice queen, the woman who ruins families with a smile, has no shoes on. She ran barefoot from her room. "Aria," Vera says, voice shaking. Aria walks down in a simple black dress. No makeup needed. She is beautiful and she knows it, and she knows how to be terrifying with it. "My little Obsidian," Dante whispers. "You remember primary 3?" Aria nods. "You remember what we did to girls who poured water on you?" "Yes, Dad." "You remember SS1 boy?" "Yes." Dante holds her face, big hands, gentle only for her. "For water, we ended their fathers. For touching wrist, we ended his family. If your biological family, this Evans family who lost you for 20 years and found you now, if they pour water on you again, if they touch your heart... what do you think I will do?" The whole mansion goes silent. 50 guards outside hold their breath. Aria smiles. Small, cold, exactly like Vera's smile. The smile she had at 10 when she wiped water. "I will end them first, Dad. Then you can burn what is left." Vera hugs her hard, cries into her hair. "We took you at 2 years old from that hospital. You were crying in that white blanket. We said no one will ever make you cry again. We kept that promise for 18 years. Today you leave and you make us cry. Don't stay where you are not princess. Understand?" Aria hugs her back. "I understand, Mom. Your rule: Don't let anyone torture me. Don't let anyone terrify me. Don't accept bully." "Even if it's blood?" Vera asks. "Even if it's blood," Aria says. She picks her suitcase. Dante opens the door himself. Outside, 10 black G-Wagons are lined up, engines on, guards standing. As she walks out, all 50 guards bow. Not to Dante. To her. Aria looks back once at the pink room window. She is going to meet the family who lost her. A family with a perfect i********:, a rich CEO father, a soft mother, a brother, and Chloe - the adopted daughter who took her room. They think they are calling back a lost little girl who will say thank you for a small stool. They don't know they are calling the Obsidian Princess. And in Lagos, everyone knows: *No one dares make her sit on a stool. And anyone who does, kneels at her gate by midnight.*
