Chapter 1
Hearing the pitter patter the rain hitting the old roof. The drip of water from the faucet of a small dreary apartment. Rolling out of bed, I got up and ready for work. Turning on the shower, hoping it would be warm, but nonetheless it was cold like the days, months, years that have been passing me by. Ice water dripping on my head giving me goosebumps that keep in arriving and decide to never leave, Hurry up and out of the cold shower. Arab a warm fuzzy tail around me in go get dressed for the day in my usual black pants white dress shirt.
Heading out the door I rushed down the stairs passing the neighbours saying "Hello," and "Goodbye." Entering the street of New York City. Isn't everyone's dream to live in work in New York City? It is mine, but as the years passed it wasn't as I thought it would to be like. The big Apple was where I was. Hailing a taxi was difficult but I managed.
Once to step then I was overwhelmed by the multitude of perfumes and colognes " Where to Miss?" Asked the driver, " Can you take me to 828 Broadway, New York, NY 10003?" (*This is an actual address in New York*) I asked trying to remember the address. "Sure can do Miss." On our way their New York dose have some amazing sights to that never get old.
the car stated to shack just ever so slightly. " No, no, no, not this again they said it was fixed and it would stop." whispered the driver it seems that he knows something is wrong, he really is a good driver. " Pull over I will take a look at it for you." I completely understand, you see we had a lot of that as a kid. My dad taught me different things so you won't be charged a lot or be bribed into something that is not correct.
"Thank you so much! But don't you have to get to work?" he stated ever so confused by my offer " Sir, if I am late it will be perfectly fine. They will be fine with one late day." Trying to convince myself that I am right. Yes, I work out of bookstore that doesn't mean they go easy on you. If I lose his job it will be fine, I will just look for one more like I have been doing, but with everything closed nowadays due to covid I dont really know. When the first wave of covid hit I lost 2 of my 3 job. With that I got out of the car open the hood. It looked all brand new. Bending down as the rain was soaking me. Rain pounding I touch the tire,it was good no holes, scratches or patches. Out of the corner of my Ivan noticed a bent piece of metal. "Sir, you have a bent wheel. It is not safe to drive, so I will call a person to pick up the car. I advis you to call your employer and tell them what happened." Pulling out of water cash I can't how much he will need for this and handed it to him. Looking backup at him after I placed the test in my wallet. He was silently shedding tears. " Thank you so much. Miss you helped me out alot how can I ever repay you?" I smiled at him thoughtfully so he would not cry any further. " I want you to be safe and take care of your family."
Getting back into the car I called the towing company to have him towed. Deciding to get out of the car I will walk to work than rather wait. Rain pouring down on me. I will be walking their, yay me.
