A dark cloud settled on Duncan’s brow. “Why did you allow that?”
Fanny shook her head. “It wasn’t allowed, sir! All the Keeps are off limits, but he’s complained many a time about being shut out of the best hiding spots in them! He must be there!”
I cast a look of doubt at Cornelia. “Were you playing, too?”
She lifted both her chins up high and sniffed the air. “Of course not!”
“Then what are you doing here?” I questioned her.
She rolled her eyes. “I wish to keep the peace between us spirits and the Keepers, of course. That is why we must find this fool and, should the need arise, have him apologize for his trespass.”
