SEASON 1,EPISODE I:Emily cooper finally goes to France đ«đ·
The episode begins in Chicago, where we meet Emily Cooper, a young, ambitious, and enthusiastic marketing executive. Her boss, Madeline, is pregnant and unexpectedly offers Emily the chance to take her place at a French marketing firm called Savoir, which her company has just acquired. The role is a one-year assignment in Paris, and Emily, despite not speaking French, excitedly accepts the opportunity, believing she will bring a fresh, "American point of view" to the firm.
Emily's boyfriend, Doug, is initially supportive but ultimately decides he can't leave his life in Chicago, leading to a strain in their relationship.
Upon arriving in Paris, Emily is full of optimism, but she quickly encounters a series of culture clashes. Her new apartment is in an old building with a very inconvenient fifth-floor walk-up. At Savoir, she is met with a cold reception. Her new boss, Sylvie, and her colleagues are unimpressed by her American energy and lack of French language skills. Her attempts to introduce modern social media strategies are met with skepticism and eye-rolling.
Feeling isolated, Emily has lunch alone in a park, where she meets Mindy Chen, a Chinese-Korean woman who is also an expat living in Paris as a nanny. They quickly bond over their shared experiences as foreigners in the city.
Back at her apartment building, Emily accidentally tries to open the wrong door and meets her handsome downstairs neighbor, Gabriel. He is a chef, and there is an instant connection between them. This, of course, sets up the central love triangle of the series.
The episode ends with Emily feeling a mix of loneliness and determination. Her initial excitement has been tempered by the realities of life in Paris, but she is resolved to prove herself and make the most of her year abroad.
