*Emily’s POV
After spending a great time with my mom, we came back to the pack. The big meeting is happening in the afternoon, and I want to be ready. I will have a tight schedule in the afternoon. Just when I am walking inside the pack house I am tackled by Mia, she has to stop doing that or she is going to give me a heart attack one of these days.
“What is it, Mia? You scare me!!” I say not looking straight at her.
“I need to talk to you, right the f*ck now. It is important,” she rushes to say.
“We are talking, Mia,” I say smirking. It is actually true.
“No, Emi. You don’t get it, come with me,” she says and this time it scares me. She grabs my arm and guides me to the backyard where no one can hear us.
“M, you are scaring me. What happened?” I ask her once I see no one is around.
“I did something awful,” she starts. “Well, not intentionally.”
“What?” I say irritated.
“I was walking around arranging some other stuff about the meeting and the ball Mayte got a little bit of a conversation your father was having with Blake…” Mayte is her wolf, and she is known for being sneaky. “They were talking about you leaving this weekend with Alpha Blake…” WHAT. THE. F*CK?
“What? This weekend? No, it is too soon. I don’t want to,” I start saying walking back and forth. “Why? I never thought it actually was real, I didn’t think my parents would do this to me…” I am speechless. What should I do at this moment?
“Relax, relax. You know, maybe I heard something wrong… But wait? I thought this was the plan, Emily?” she says, more like a question.
“Yes, Mia. It was the plan, but now that I think about it, do you really think is a good plan? Like leaving my home, the only thing I know is to go with someone I don’t even know and try to stay there for a period and then disappear?” I ask, almost yelling. It is the first time I said the plan out loud, and it sounds even crazier.
“Well, I thought you really wanted out of here. I don’t know, but I think they are serious, Emi,” she says, she is starting to panic as well. “What are we going to do? Don’t you think they are going to send you away just like that, right?” she asks.
“I don’t know, Mia… But I need to find out, I need to speak with him or to my parents, to anyone.” I say walking around Mia.
“I don’t want you to leave,” she says with fear and sadness in her voice. “I really don’t want to, I don’t know why I coped with the idea at first, but I don’t think this is a good idea…” she has started crying at this point.
“I don’t know what to do, Mia…” I confess her, it is the truth. I don’t know what to do anymore. At first, I thought that the plan was good, but now I know it is not. I don’t want to be the Luna of anyone, I don’t want to be the babymaker of anyone. That is for sure. And I know that is what Blake wants, he doesn’t want a mate, and he doesn’t seem like it.
“Here’s what we are going to do,” I say to Mia trying to calm her down and me. “We are not going to think about that tonight, we have a bunch of stuff to do. We have the meeting and the ball, and you need to be at your best because my mom trusts you. And I got access to the meeting, you know how much I love that, so we are going to pass tonight. Tomorrow, I will think what I should do,”
“O-okay,” she says and breaths a few times. “Everything is going to be okay, Emi. I love you,” she says and hugs me.
I go to my room to get ready for the meeting. I know I said to Mia that we needed to let it pass for today, but it is hard. I regret everything I did the last two days, I know I drove him into this, I was so wrong. I try really hard to not think about it and eventually, I am able to stop. I was unsure how to dress for this because this was the first time I attended an important meeting; my dad has let me in many meetings but these are the ones held in our pack with just one or two alphas.
I am wearing some black pants with a black shirt. I think is elegant enough, but not too much. I went down the stairs and I met Roney. He is waiting for me as I have told him that I am nervous because of this meeting.
“You look amazing. Great outfit,” he complements my outfit, he always does that. “You’re not nervous, are you?”
“I am a little bit; this is my first big meeting. I don’t want to say anything inappropriate or anything,” I say walking with him.
“Darling, these meetings are the most like a dog fight. Everyone screams and they say names to each other, so relax.” He explains to me as we walk into the hall where the meeting is being held. When I got into the salon I saw a lot of people, but not a single woman. I am the only one.
“Come here, Emi,” my dad links me. I see where he is and start walking toward him.
“Hi, dad. Tommy,” I say to him and my brother once I get to them. I sense everyone is looking at me, but why?
“Sweety, great job with the outfit,” my dad says to me and pats my shoulder. “Now, come on, we have to get seated,” he instructs Tom and me to three empty seats that were close and in the middle of the big table. He started talking to us about the meeting and the importance of it. He is very insistent that we need to show off our pack and how we have been growing it.
A couple of minutes after everyone sat down. Blake was here too, he was sitting right in front of us. When I saw him sitting, I slightly smiled at him, and he did the same to me.
“Everybody, welcome to the annual reunion of packs,” a big guy says to everybody. “My name is Jhon, and I am one of the Alpha Elders, I’ll be presiding over the session,” he says, and everyone stay quiet. Elder Jhon sits down and is about to say something when another Alpha interrupts him.
“Elder, thank you for the introduction. But I want to know what is that girl doing here?” he says and points directly at me. I feel so seen but I try to keep my posture and not let them know that it affected me.
“Alpha Alexander, she is my daughter, Emily,” my father says without letting anyone else speak.
“And what is she doing here, Alpha William? She is not your Luna, nor she is getting the pack, so I don’t know why a girl in the session is,” he says. The tone he uses when saying girl annoys me.
“I don’t see a problem; she is a very good strategist and has been helping me with a lot of things around the pack. She is intelligent, she is my heir as much as my son, and she deserves to be here as well. This is my pack,” my dad says. I want to cry, but of course, I won’t do it. At this point I want to stand up and leave the meeting, I don’t want my dad to have any trouble.
“Alexander, she is well known for being a great strategist in the pack… Alpha William asked for permission time ahead,” Elder Jhon says, but the man seems like he doesn’t care.
“This is not a place for a girl,” he says, emphasizing the word girl.
“That is not very respectful of you,” I hear Blake’s voice. “I have heard great things about Emily, she is intelligent and has a great sense of the pack and the business that involved the pack itself. On my end, it’s not a problem for her to stay, maybe it would be nice if we stepped out of the traditions for once. And maybe, you can stop projecting your insecurities in others,” Blake says and looks at me. I am astonished, why would he say that about me?
“Thank you, Alpha Blake. I think we are all on the same page about this,” Elder Jhon says when he sees all the other alphas nodding their head. “We can continue, if you don’t feel comfortable, Alpha Alexander, you can leave,” he says.
