chapter 13

Annas POV.

After witnessing Hunter kissing that other girl I had lost it. I knew he felt the mate bond, I know he did. I ran down the country roads, past the fields of hay and animals that surrounded the school. I ran past the farm houses. Cars that had driven by honked at me. The air was crisp this morning and burned my face as I ran. Tears streamed down my face faster than I could stop them. It was a five mile run from the school to my small apartment, an easy run for a wolf really. Once my building was in sight I slowed down to a walk, letting my burning lungs take in the cool air. As I walked up the steps to my actual apartment I tried to steady my breathing, and calm myself for I knew I'd never look at this place the same again I would not feel safe again!

After I got inside I locked my door and set my stuff down on the table. I went into the kitchen to get a snack. I opted for an orange. Before slightly relaxing I smelled the air and confirmed that I was alone in my home. I sat down on the couch and turned on the small tv. I wasn't really in the mood to watch it but it distracted me from the events of this morning. Everything that had happened, all the pain I still felt inside, I needed to get past it all for the sake of my mission and loyalty to Luna Amber, I needed to tell Hunter the truth about who he was and return him to Luna Amber. Then I needed to reject him and leave her pack and become rogue and go far far away from here. If Hunter was smart he would accept my rejection and let me leave.

Not long after I had sat down there was a knock at my door. My body tensed and I froze on the couch, staring at the door. There was a second knock, my blood ran cold, was warren here to get me again? I forced my body to move closer to the door, trying to be as quiet as possible. I stood a few feet away when I caught his scent. It was Hunter. Why was he here? Why had he left school? I opened the door and looked around.

“What are you doing here?” I asked as I pulled him inside my apartment.

“I…I…uh, wanted to make sure you were alright and explain the er… the kiss you saw between Sam and myself” he said, stuttering on almost all his words, it was kind of cute. And who the heck is this Sam girl? None of our research indicated that he had a girlfriend of any sort. In fact he was the pack reject, bullied at school, beaten at home. Things didn't make sense, but I really didn't care. I have a mission to complete and I need to do so now.

“You really don't need to explain anything, it is not my business and I really do not care!” I said as I walked away towards my kitchen, trying to sound bored.

“Anna, that's not what your face said earlier, your body language told me that you cared alot what happened” he said softly. I faced him momentarily to see the hurt in his eyes. I quickly turned back towards the kitchen.

“Yeah well I don't, you can go kiss whoever you want” i said trying to hide the pain behind my words

*Stupid stop being mean to our mate! Just let him explain, let him in!* my wolf pleaded with me gently in my head.

*NO! We are not here to mate him, he obviously has the intention of rejecting us for that other woman and I for one am not going to get mixed up in that. Now shush* I said pushing her back to the back of my mind.

“Anna listen to me, I know you`re my mate, I know that what you saw hurt even if you don't want to admit it. I've known we were mates since the first time we spoke. I didn't say anything because I didn't want you to reject me, as my other mate plans to. I know I couldn't survive double rejection. So I didnt say anything hoping that you couldn't feel the connection and that we could go on like friends.” Hunter says with his head hanging low. I could hear the sadness in his voice. I desperately wanted to run over to him and wrap my arms around him. I know the thought of being around anyone right now is terrifying for me but he's my mate he wouldn't hurt me… would he?

*Anna we need to talk to him to comfort him, he will keep us safe as we will keep him safe* Lucy said in my head.

*Ok but how do we know he will…he said he had…wait he said he has or had another mate!* I turn to fully face him, his eyes are glistening with unshed tears, his head hanging causing his hair to fall in his face slightly. He looks as though he is going to collapse.

“You said your other mate, and has the intention of rejecting you? How can you have two mates at the same time that is unheard of?!” I ask softly.

“I do have another mate, her name is Sam, she is the girl you saw me kissing. She was dating someone else when we found out we were mates, the same day I met you. She intends on rejecting me as soon as she somewhat recovers from her break up with her boyfriend. I would understand if you wanted to reject me too, i wont hold it against you.” he said turning towards the door.

“Hunter wait, why did you come here?” I ask as I step closer to him.

“I wanted to make sure you were ok, you looked so hurt this morning. Felix and I both wanted to make sure that you were okay, and to explain myself…I am truly sorry if I hurt you with my actions” he said reaching his hand out to touch my arm. I flinch away and take a step back. A low whimper escapes my lips. There is a fear in me that has never been there before. I know I am safe but I fear the worst!

Hunter lowers his hand and his head and starts to walk towards the door. “I am sorry for bothering you. I hope you are okay. And I will understand if you reject me.” his hand is now on the door knob. My heart is racing and Lucy is pacing in my head. She is screaming at me to not let him walk out the door, to tell him the truth! To let him hold me. I am frozen in place, I open my mouth but nothing comes out. Hunter now has the door open and is about to step outside. I try opening my mouth again this time the words come out, but only in barely a whisper!

“Hunter, wait!” I pause waiting for his reaction. He stops and looks over his shoulder at me, i can see the heartache he is feeling in his now dull green eyes. “Please come in and…and let me explain why I was so upset this morning.”

He thought for a moment and then came back inside my apartment, shutting the door behind him. He walked over to my small table and sat down. He looked up at me and motioned with his hand for me to join him. I took a deep breath to steady my nerves, which did not help at all but it was worth a shot right?

“Please explain” he said his tone now one of boredom. I was certain that after this he would reject me immediately and I would return to Warren dead! I took one more deep breath before I began.

“It all started a while ago when I met Luna Amber of Crimson Blood pack. Her and I became very close, I was her personal assistant at one point. Well about six months ago i agreed to help her find her son, before his eighteenth birthday. Along the way on my journey to his pack, this pack, I ran into a demon who is also looking for this boy. I agreed to also help the demon in hopes that he would lead me to the boy and then i could get the boy and return him safely to his mother.” I paused to give Hunter a chance to wrap his head around the information that i just threw at him before I told him about this morning. Truth betold i wasnt sure i even wanted to disclose what happened this morning. I shifted in my chair now uncomfortable, I also began to fidget with my fingers under the table. Deep in my own thoughts and how to say the next part.

“Did you find the boy you were looking for?” Hunters hushed voice broke me from my thoughts.

“Y…yes I did” Please dont ask me who is is! I silently begged in my mind.

“Can I ask you who this boy is?” he asked a certain longing in his voice.

“You” I barely managed to whisper.

We were both silent for what seemed like an eternity, before Hunter finally broke the silence with a chuckle. “ you expect me to believe that you know my birth mom and she wants me back? News flash, SHE LEFT ME! She was to proud to be a mother he left me here with this pack and went to see the world. She never loved me and never will! You must have me confused with some other pack member” He said anger rising in him.

“Hunter…I know it is hard to believe and I am not the one who should tell you but you couldnt be further from the truth. Your mother loves you so much, Ive seen her cry for you more times than I can count. I beg you please come back to Crimson Blood pack with me and just meet her and hear her out.”

“NO! And due to us being mates, I will not reject you but I do not trust you….wait you said a demon was after me to..what does he want?”

“The demons name is Warren and he wants your power and then to kill you.” I answered honestly. “Please trust me enough to allow me to help keep you safe from Warren in your mothers pack.”

He chucked a moment then stood, “I have no power, if you only knew my past you'd see your demon friend as a joke just the same as this ridiculous story.” He took a few steps towards the door and then paused, “was this your plan all along? Somehow creating a mate bond between us so that you could convince me to go with you and live in your delusional world? If i had this so called power that you and your friends think I do I would have left this hell hole a long time ago!” he got to the door and opened it then stepped out, pausing before he shut the door “as for your claim about my mother, what kind of a mother can abandon her child then years later claim to love it? No mother that I want to know. Tell her I said i refuse to meet her.” with that he shut the door.

I should have known that this talk was not going to be a good one, and I hadnt even had time to explain this mornings events to him. Sighing, I continued to sit at my table for a long time, I am pretty sure that at some point I fell asleep because when I finally moved it was getting dark outside. I needed to go find hunter and try to convince him again to come with me to safety. I needed to reach out to Luna Amber. I needed to run before Warren came to find me. I stood up and walked towards the bathroom. When I was finished in the bathroom i decided to change into some more comfortable clothes, so I put on leggings and a tee shirt. I grabbed my small purse and put my phone and keys in it. Checking again to ensure i had everything I walked out the door to go find Hunter.
