Chapter 1
"The deceased was abused and r*ped before her death. The cause of death was drowning." At the funeral home, the doctor's words still echoed in Kaden Scott's ears.
Kaden stood beside the cold mortuary table, his trembling hands unable to lift the white sheet to take one last look at his girlfriend, Rachel Robinson. He couldn't believe it. Lying there, waiting for him to confirm, was Rachel's body. She was the woman he loved most in this world.
Just last night, they had been sitting on a bench by the river, talking passionately about their future.
Just yesterday, they had been saying they'd save enough money by Christmas to buy a car and get married.
"Kaden, I don't need a fancy wedding. Let's just throw a wedding party when the time comes."
"Kaden, don't overwork yourself. If we can't afford a house in Pechlon City, it'll be fine. Renting is just as good."
"Kaden, once we earn enough money, I want to see the northern lights in Iceland, go to Hawaii, and bring your sister to live with us."
As he recalled those beautiful moments, Kaden's face contorted, his eyes filled with tears, and his hands trembled as he reached to pull back the sheet.
The moment he lifted it, Kaden broke down.
Rachel's naked body was covered in cigarette burn marks and whip scars. Her wrists were bruised from being tied up. Her lower body was bloodied. Her once beautiful face was now unrecognizable, too horrifying to look at. But the bracelet on her wrist was the one he had given her.
Kaden collapsed to the ground, letting out a heart-wrenching scream.
When the staff handed him the autopsy report, Kaden kept muttering, "Who did this... Who did this to her?"
Suddenly, Kaden sprang up from the floor, grabbing the staff member by the shoulders. His bloodshot eyes burned with rage as he shouted, "Who did this to Rachel? Who could be so cruel?"
A nearby police officer pulled Kaden away. "Calm down. We're still investigating. We have a suspect, but the details aren't clear yet..."
"Who's the suspect?" Kaden grabbed the officer's collar, completely losing control as he demanded answers.
The officer, of course, wouldn't say anything, just urging Kaden to calm down. But Kaden couldn't bring himself to calm down. He turned and ran out.
Faces of anyone who could possibly be involved flashed through Kaden's mind, but such thoughts were meaningless.
He had just graduated from college and was working as an intern at a company. He didn't know many people and hadn't offended anyone.
Rachel was introverted and worked as an accountant at a dance company. She didn't have many friends either. Whenever she talked about work, she only shared the good and kept the bad to herself, so he knew very little about her job.
Or maybe it wasn't someone they knew at all. Maybe it was a random stranger passing by.
Suddenly, Kaden thought of something. He rushed back to the city and found a public phone booth, dialing the police station.
"Why haven't you caught the person who killed Rachel yet? You already found the suspect. Why haven't you taken action? If you won't do it, I'll kill him myself!" Kaden tried to get some information from them, and sure enough, they mentioned a name.
"Noah Bennett is a major suspect, but we don't have solid evidence yet. It might not be him. Don't do anything reckless!" Kaden hung up the phone, repeating the name "Noah Bennett" to himself.
He knew this guy!
There was a time when he went to pick Rachel up from work. He saw a man harassing her, and Rachel called him "Mr. Bennett."
'That guy is Noah Bennett! It has to be him!' A surge of fury swept over Kaden as he slapped himself repeatedly.
'How could I have been so stupid?'
Rachel never brought it up again afterward, so he thought it was over and didn't take it seriously. Looking back now, Rachel might have been living under that scumbag's watch all along. Last night, Noah must have seized the opportunity to harass Rachel.
Thinking of this, Kaden wished he could grab Noah in the next second, tear him to pieces, and send him straight to hell!

Inside Room 1028 of Wonderland, after waiting for the police to leave, Kaden lingered for a moment before daring to enter.
He couldn't afford to get caught before avenging Rachel. He hadn't known how to track Noah down, but luckily, that phone call had given him the clue he needed.
The police had rushed over in a panic to check on Noah's safety, unintentionally leading Kaden right to him.
Of course, it was also thanks to the police paving the way that Kaden managed to sneak in, bypassing the club's strict VIP system.
When the server delivered drinks and the door opened for a moment, Noah's drunken laughter stabbed at Kaden's heart like a knife. He walked straight over and deliberately bumped into the server carrying a fruit platter. In the ensuing moment of helping the server steady the tray, Kaden discreetly swiped the knife from the platter.
Pushing the door open, Kaden stepped inside. The sight of men and women partying wildly in the private room made his anger surge to its peak.
"Get out! Who the h*ll are you?" Kaden's appearance didn't immediately catch their attention, but his presence in the middle of the room made Noah glance him up and down with irritation.
Kaden said coldly, "Do you remember Rachel Robinson?"
"Rachel Robinson? What the h*ll are you talking about? Are you crazy? Get out of here! I'm trying to enjoy myself. Don't ruin my mood!" Noah waved him off impatiently, pulling the woman next to him closer and kissing her passionately.
Kaden pulled out the knife and shouted, "I said, get out! If you don't want to die, then get the h*ll out of here!" The sight of the raised knife sent a wave of terror through the room. The women screamed, and the men jumped to their feet in panic.
The theme song from The Godfather, "Speak Softly Love," was playing on the screen, reaching its dramatic climax, a sharp contrast to the chaos erupting in the room.
Kaden stepped onto the coffee table and lunged at Noah. The blade pressed against Noah's neck, leaving him no chance to escape.
Noah's eyes widened, and his earlier composure vanished. "W-What are you doing? I don't even know you!"
"You don't know me, but you know my girlfriend! You killed her!" Kaden's face was terrifying, his presence menacing.
Noah was shaken but still looked confused. "Bro, there's gotta be some mistake! I've got so much money, so many women. Why would I need to kill someone just to get a woman?"
Kaden roared, "Still trying to lie, huh? You've been harassing my girlfriend all this time! Last night, after she and I parted ways, you went after her! You killed her!"
"No, I didn't! Last night, I was—Argh!" Kaden plunged the knife into Noah's abdomen. Noah cried out in pain, clutching Kaden's hand tightly. Blood gushed out as Noah's face shifted from shock to fear.
He shouted at the others cowering in the corner, "D*mn it! What are you all standing there for?" But they weren't Noah's subordinates and had no intention of risking their lives for him. They hesitated, wanting to intervene but too afraid to make the first move.
Consumed by rage, Kaden pushed the knife deeper into Noah's body. Although Noah was physically larger than Kaden, the first stab had drained much of his strength. He fought back desperately but couldn't stop the second stab.
Then came the third, the fourth stabs. Noah's eyes gradually lost focus, reflecting Kaden's twisted, frenzied face.
The horrifying scene sent one of the women fleeing the room, immediately calling the police.
The officers returned to find Kaden covered in blood, standing over Noah's unconscious body slumped in the seat.
One of the officers shouted, "Kaden Scott! You've committed murder! You're under arrest!"
