Kaden turned his head and saw a big guy standing behind him. The man's head was even bigger than Fatty's, with thick eyebrows that looked like two daggers, dark skin, large eyes, and a large nose.
When Kaden noticed the crescent-shaped scar on the man's forehead, he immediately recognized him as the leader of the cell next door, nicknamed "Giant."
Mason had mentioned before that Giant's most terrifying trait was his fighting ability.
During Kaden's time in prison, Giant had been sent out for medical treatment due to an asthma attack, which was the only reason Kaden had managed to establish himself. But now that the real trouble had arrived, Kaden couldn't help but feel his heart sink.
"Hey, I heard you've been acting tough since you got here," Giant said, slapping Kaden's shoulder with a massive hand. The weight felt like a mountain pressing down on him.
Fatty, who had just been calling Kaden "boss" moments ago, was nowhere to be found.
Kaden felt uncertain but forced himself to stay calm. He let his left shoulder drop to dodge Giant's hand and said, "I just got out of solitary confinement. I don't want to go back in."
Giant let out a cold snort, his shoulders shaking slightly. Then he grabbed Kaden by the collar and lifted him effortlessly. "Then I'll send you to the infirmary instead!"
Kaden instinctively tried to pry Giant's hand off his collar, but Giant's strength was overwhelming, and he couldn't break free.
As Giant raised his right hand high, ready to strike, Kaden noticed that no one around him was willing to step in. Even the guards, who were supposed to maintain order, seemed to have vanished into thin air.
Kaden understood the situation clearly. Many of the inmates disliked him and were waiting for Giant to restore the "order" he had disrupted. If he got beaten this time, he'd fall right back to the bottom of the prison hierarchy and face even worse bullying than before.
But that wasn't the worst part. The most critical issue was that he'd lose Mason's and the others' support. If that happened, how would he ever find Rachel's killer?
'No! I can't let that happen!' Kaden told himself.
Kaden held his breath and suddenly reached for Giant's groin.
Giant let out a muffled groan, and his grip loosened immediately.
Seizing the opportunity, Kaden knocked Giant's hand away, landed back on the ground, and turned to run.
Furious, Giant cursed loudly and chased after him.
The other inmates quickly stepped aside, giving the two plenty of space.
In terms of size and strength, Kaden was no match for Giant. The outcome of this confrontation was uncertain, but it was bound to be a spectacle.
Kaden glanced back at the relentless Giant and began leaping over and under the cafeteria tables. He knew he had no chance in a direct fight. His only hope was to exploit Giant's weakness—his asthma.
Soon, the combination of rage and running left Giant gasping for air.
Kaden took the chance to turn back, jump onto a table, and deliver a powerful kick to Giant's head from above.
Giant toppled over like a falling tree, crashing straight down from a chair.
Kaden leaped off the table and onto Giant, raining punches down on him.
Although Giant's breathing was chaotic, his size and strength were still formidable. After taking a few punches, he raised his thick arm to block Kaden's attack and swung back, nearly knocking Kaden off him.
Kaden took the hit but noticed that Giant's strength was fading.
Seeing Giant trying to roll over and pin him down, Kaden pressed the advantage and jabbed hard at Giant's vulnerable eye!
"Argh!" Giant screamed in pain. Kaden didn't dare slow down, speeding up his barrage of punches.
Soon, Giant's nose was bleeding, blood dripped from the corners of his mouth, and his eyes couldn't focus.
The guards' whistles finally blew, and the crowd began pulling Kaden away. Grabbing a fork from the ground, Kaden pried hard at Giant's front tooth!
"Argh!" Giant let out another scream as blood filled his mouth. A bloody tooth was ripped out and held high in Kaden's hand like a trophy, showing everyone who had won this battle.
Since Giant had been the one to provoke the fight, Kaden's actions were considered self-defense. Although Giant lost, he was sent to solitary confinement.
With his front tooth gone, even when Giant got out, he would never be able to act all high and mighty in front of Kaden again.
Kaden became a complete sensation in the prison, rising to the position of an undisputed king. No one from the other cells dared to mess with him. They showed him respect whenever they saw him.
After all, even Giant had been taken down by Kaden, losing a front tooth in the process. What else could they do?
Fatty, who had initially hoped that Giant's arrival would help him reclaim his position as the boss, quickly realized that wasn't going to happen. Instead, he became even more submissive in front of Kaden.
When Kaden instructed Fatty to contact his friend, Fatty used a visitation opportunity to pass the message along. With someone on the outside helping out, things were bound to get done more easily.
A few days later, Fatty brought back a reply to Kaden, "Boss, I talked to my friend about the van. He promised he'd help you get to the bottom of it."
Kaden handed Fatty his chicken drumstick from lunch as a reward, then went to find Mason. He wanted Mason to predict whether the van could be found successfully.
Mason was in the corner of the yard during outdoor time, sitting on the viewing platform and staring into space. He liked spending his free time there, gazing at the sky.
Kaden asked him to do a reading, but Mason didn't take out his tarot cards.
Instead, Mason just looked up at the drifting clouds in the sky and said, "I think it won't work out."
Kaden frowned. "You didn't even do a reading! What makes you say that?"
Mason had been the one who previously told him he had avenged the wrong person, and now he was the one looking down on this plan. Kaden couldn't figure out what was going through his mind.
Seeing that Kaden was upset, Mason just smiled and said, "Because if it's something you can figure out with your brain, why waste the cards on it?"
Kaden was about to ask what he meant when Mason waved him off and said, "Just take it as a joke. You'll see later."
Kaden was speechless.
Mason looked off into the distance and muttered to himself, "It won't come today."
After saying that, Mason got down from the platform and walked past Kaden.
Kaden glanced at the distant spot Mason had been staring at, confused, and called out to him, "Wizard."
Mason turned his head. "Yeah?"
Kaden asked, "Why are you helping me? Or rather, why me?"
Mason kept his usual casual smile, shrugged, and then pointed at the sky.
Kaden watched his retreating figure and said helplessly, "What's that supposed to mean? You want me to ask God?"
"What a baffling person," Kaden muttered to himself. He didn't know what Mason's true intentions were, but for now, he didn't have the energy to figure it out. He decided to wait for Fatty to bring back news about the van and stayed quiet for the next few days.
About five days later, a prison guard called Fatty out, saying someone wanted to see him.
Fatty raised an eyebrow at Kaden smugly and said, "It's my friend. He must have brought news!"
But not long after, Kaden saw Fatty return with tears streaming down his face.
