It was late in the day, and I was working in Xavier’s office mapping out all the information we had gathered about the pups. I had decided to approach it as one would approach a public health crisis—information gathering, contact tracing, water and soil samples, etc. The map on the wall was littered with color coded tags but I was no closer to finding a pattern then before. I sighed, frustrated that whoever was doing this was very good at covering their tracks or these occurrences really were random. I felt arms encircle my waist and warm tingles engulfed me. Xavier planted a small kiss on my marking spot and rested his chin on my shoulder. I stroked his arms at my waist. “Any luck?” “Not yet. It seems like all of this is random, but it’s too random to be a coincidence. I just can’t see
