Amara’s POV
“Amara, are you still there?! Open the f*cking door!” I heard my mother banging at my door. I was scared, so scared that I was shaking with fear.
I glanced at Parker, and he whispered, “Open it.”
I shook my head, “Why would I open it?! She’ll see us.”
I opened the window and said, “Get out. Just jump through the window, please! I’m begging you!”
He jumped out of the window and winked at me as he drove his car away from the house. I changed into my pajamas in a hurry and answered the door with a sigh. "Yes?"
“What took you so long?!” she asked angrily.
“Uhm, I was sleeping…”
She tried to peek inside my room, and said, “Oh, Parker has already left? I forgot to say goodbye.”
“Yeah,” I nodded my head.
Then she grasped my chin, her expression became like a tigress right now. “Then why are you trying to humiliate me in front of Parker today? Don’t you know that I’m marrying him next month?! My decision is my decision, and not yours!”
I stepped back and tried to get away from her grasp. “He’s not good for you. Look for someone who’s good for your age.”
“What? He’s at the right age to marry someone like me.”
I sighed, “Mom, he’s twenty-nine and a man like him is no good for you. I mean….he could hurt you.”
"I'm not in love with him, I only want his money," she laughed at me and continued. "He'll be thirty next month, so what's the big deal about our age difference?! He is also the right age to get married, and his dying father wants him to do it right away!"
“You know?” I sighed, and bit my lower lip, “So I guess you and him are just using each other?”
She pokes my forehead, “Stupid. Of course, I want his money, and I will be his wife next month, so you had better practice calling him your stepfather.”
She walked back to her room, laughing hysterically while I wondered what was happening. This is really awful. I don't want to think about this when I wake up tomorrow.
**************
The next day,
I already said yes to the job and started working in this cute little fancy bakery today. While I was brewing some coffee, the customers in front of me stopped in their tracks when they saw a brand-new sports car parked in front of the shop.
Parker stepped out of the car, and the sight had some customers fainting. They had mistaken him for a famous actor. He's physically intimidating, but I know that deep down, he's a threat to me. And why the hell is he here?
Is he following me?
Walking into the coffee shop, he took off his shades and looked around. That's when his eyes met mine. Everyone in the store kept looking at him because of his sweet, charming smile.
He walked towards me, and I gave the customer her coffee. When he’s already the next customer that I need to serve. He smiled at me, and said, “Good morning, future stepdaughter.”
I rolled my eyes at him, “What do you want to order, sir?”
He looked up to see what coffee was available for today, and he said, “What’s your best seller?”
“Do you want our best seller?”
He nodded his head, “Yes, please.”
"Okay, come right away. Just wait at your table, sir." I told him this while entering his order into the computer. I then began making his coffee, and he said, "Give me this cute round creamy dessert, I love it. This one looks so much tastier than the others because it has a delicious creamy pie."
He pointed to a donut, and I took a quick look at it. When I turned around to see his face, I was blushing. He winked at me, and I said, "Okay." Is he just messing with my mind, or am I just being a snotty girl?
After I put all his orders on one tray, I went to his table and placed them one by one with a forced smile on my face. “Sit,” he said.
“I’m not gonna sit here, I’m working,” I replied softly.
“Where’s the owner of this store?” he asked, then he bit the creamy donut, then licked the cream on the edge of his lips seductively, which made me gulp, and looked away.
“Why do you ask about the owner of this store?”
He sipped his coffee, and said, “Because I’m going to buy it for you.”
“What?” I was shocked. “No, you can’t do that, and also….not everything in this life you can get because you have money!” I grabbed the food tray and went back to the country, brewing some coffee again with a frustrated look on my face.
I looked over and saw that he was looking at me. He kept sipping his coffee while his eyes were on me. He seemed so strange, and I thought I was going to pass out because his eyes were so distracting.
Once I was done with my work, I stretched my hand, went outside to breathe softly, and was startled when I heard his voice behind me.
“What the—” I groaned and rolled my eyes.
“It’s disrespectful if you roll your eyes at someone who’s going to be your Daddy…”
I laughed bitterly and said, “Stay away from me.”
"Why would I do that? Would you like your mom to know about us? Do you want to break her dreams again like you did eighteen years ago?"
I frowned at him, “How….How do you know that?”
“I read your journal,” he said, and my eyes widened in shock.
My mouth dropped this time, and I stepped forward to punch his face, but he grabbed my hand, and said, “Oh, take it easy…”
“That’s my journal! You can’t read it!” I screamed at him angrily, and he put his hands over my mouth. He put me inside his car, and said, “Don’t scream at me, darling.”
I bit his palm and was about to scream again, but he claimed my lips, roughly. It was a rough kiss that I couldn’t resist, and that made me moan because of how his tongue played inside my mouth.
“Ugh….”
He let go of me.
He breathed heavily, kissed my lips again tenderly, then asked, “Do you like me now?”
I slapped his face, “Of course, not!”, then kicked him, and walked away from him.
Upon opening the kitchen door from the back, I searched my trousers pocket and panicked when I realized I had left my phone in his car.
I went to look for him, but he had already left the pastry shop!
“Damn….”
