Chapter 3Finian put the second stone beside the first in the row, anticipation a heady wine as he picked up the third. He understood Gilly’s gift now, each stone a memory of their life together. “Though you should have slept last night, Gilly, not spent your strength on these.” Finian held the stone against his cheek, his heart flooding with fondness for the lines etched into the rich oak of his husband’s face, the laughter and sorrow of their years together. A smile curled his lips as Gilly’s dear face blurred, becoming younger and infinitely precious… Finian moaned and Gilly stilled his hand, heart stumbling. “Have I hurt you?” “No!
