Chapter 5Finian put the stone down and wiped at his eyes. When he could see, he put his hand on Gilly’s chest, grateful for its rise and fall. “Darling,” he murmured, with a slow shake of his head. Then he drew a sharp breath as anger rose inside him. “Damn the villagers for bringing such pain to your tender heart.” He made a motion to dispel the curse, not meaning it, as the universe very well knew. He absently drew runes of healing with his finger over Gilly’s heart. “I wish I could have spared you this hurt. You deserved it least of any of us.” Gilly showed no signs of waking, and giving a sigh, Finian reached for the next stone, running his thumb over the pretty pink quartz. Deep and lasting love. He brought the cool rock to his lips. “What memory does this hold, dear one?” he asked
