JC- What Needs to Be Said

500 Words
Selene Gray was my light, my life. Everything I did was for her. Despite my good intentions, I am nothing but a troublemaker. Living in different time zones was hard for me. I could only visit her in my sleep. And sleep always evaded me. People in the other dimensions called me the Destroyer of Lives. No matter how much I tried to do good, the bad always came out. It was a nickname that I am reluctant to admit I very much earned. Many people died around me and those who didn't die blamed me for bad things in their life. When I turned twenty-two, I decided to leave that troubled life behind. I gave up time traveling. I quit dimension jumping. The only part of my abilities I allowed myself to use was the shadow to go see Selene at night. My spirit leaves my body to be with her. That is until that life found her before I did. One afternoon, I laid down on the couch to take a nap. When my spirit woke up at Selene's, I was downstairs. Which was odd, because I usually came to by her side. I looked around. The house was dark and quiet. I could hear footsteps upstairs. I wandered up the stairs to the first landing. There she was, staring down at me, looking half asleep. “Selene?” I called up quietly, wondering if she could hear me. She stared at me, looking surprised. “JC?” My stomach dropped. Selene could see me and hear me. That had never happened before. I took a step up the stairs towards her. Something moved out of the corner of my eye. I looked passed my love, to find her mom come into the hallway. Something else floated in behind her. Something that made my blood run cold. A time wraith. I turned back to Selene. “Selene. Come here.” I held out my hand for her. “My love, I need you to come here. Now." “Selene? What's up? You okay?” Her mom asked, unaware of the danger closing in behind her. My girl looked back at her mom, looking like she hardly registered her presence there. I stepped up closer. The girl turned back to me. I motioned for her to come down, keeping an eye on the wraith behind her. She reached towards me coming closer. The spirit screeched, hurtling towards her. I jumped to grab her, sure that she’d be safe in my arms. I wasn't fast enough. Her face distorted and she screamed. A scream left my own throat as my fingers barely missed her. I collapsed to my knees where she had been, feeling my breath be sucked out of my chest. I closed my eyes. I woke up on the couch, gasping. “What's wrong?” Jeff asked, kneeling down next to me. Tears streamed down my face. “It got her. And it's my fault.”
