Entangled with the Miller's heir

Zoe's POV “Oh no this isn't happening" I shouted as I woke up to check the time on my phone. “Im definitely going to be late for work today” I jumped up from the bed and ran into the bathroom immediately to have my bath. When I came out I quickly dressed up in a blue jean and a black shirt with my favorite sneakers which happens to be the only one I have (hahaha funny right). I ran to my mama's room to greet her good bye but saw that she was still sleeping so I pecked her on the forehead and ran out of the house. My mother Mary Harper is a very beautiful woman that I respect so much because she took care of me with everything she had since my father left us for another woman when I was just two years old. I don't even like thinking about that man because I hate him so much. Now my mum has been diagnosed with leukemia for three years now and I work my ass out just to buy her medications. I shook my head to stop the thoughts running through my head so that I could concentrate on getting to work as fast as possible. On getting to Essence which is the cafe I work at, I just sneaked into the locker room praying for luck to be on my side today so that I don't come face to face with my boss Mrs Scott. “If its not Zoe the late comer" I heard my boss say immediately I walked into the locker room. "I know that I can never be lucky" "What did you say?" Mrs Scott asked wanting to know what I had been whispering to my self. "Oh nothing ma'am, I was just apologizing for arriving late. The traffic was mad as hell". I replied her feigning frustration. “I don't care but if this happen I will gladly deduct it from your salary” she said firmly, obviously hoping I got the fact that she had been serious. “ I promise that it won't happen again” I said placing my hand on my chest and raising the other one up. "Good. Now get to work, the customers are waiting". She replied and turned her back to leave while I changed into my work cloth and went out to start my work for the day. I spotted my best friend Raine Andrew and the only person that doesn't make me loose my s**t at work. Raine and I have being friends since high school. She has been a really good friend because she was with me through thick and thing. When my mum was diagnosed with leukemia I felt my world turning upside down but Raine was there to comfort me and help me keep my sanity intact. She started working at Essence before me so she was quick to tell me when there was a vacant spot so I applied and got the job and we've been working together ever since "Why exactly did you come late to work?" Raine scoffed the moment she laid her eyes on me " I woke up late because I didn't hear my alarm" i shrugged simply, honestly not quite in the mood to hear Raine scold me on my late attitude to my place of work. "Anyway, the first thing you need to do today is to deliver coffee to the building opposite to us. I'll give you the details of the order so that you can make arrangements for it" she said instead while concentrating back on her work. I clapped feeling very alive and ready to work. "Okay, bring it on." I arranged the order and went out of the cafe to the building. As I was about to enter into the building someone bumped into me and spilled coffee on me. "What the hell" I shouted because the coffee was very hot. "Would you watch where you are going. Just thank your stars that your coffee didn't spill on my suit because I wouldn't have taken it lightly with you" I heard a voice say and that was when I remembered that there was someone in front of me. I was very furious and looked up at the person and saw this tall, handsome man with a sexy body. I was about to drool when I remembered that he spilled coffee on me and was also blaming me for bumping into him "Excuse me" I snapped. "I'm very certain that you know that this was all your fault because you were so concentrated on your phone that you weren't even looking up, so please don't give me that crap that I bumped into you" I said not so calm because he was getting on my nerves. "Do you know who you are talking to?" He replied. "I don't care if you are the president of this country because that still doesn't give you the right not to apologize when you are wrong but the one thing I care about right now is you paying for the coffee you spilled because it was someone's order" I replied quickly "What do you mean I should pay for..........." He started saying but I think he had a change of mind because reached for his wallet then brought out a hundred dollar note from his pocket. "..........Take this and keep the change because I don't want you constituting nuisance at my place of work" He added. I was so shocked seeing the amount of money he gave me and the fact that he wasn't requesting for change but collected it anyway because I could really use the tip. I stormed back to the cafe angrily because now I need to place another order and go back to the same building. I went straight into the restroom to get the coffee stain off me and went back to make arrangements for another order. While I was making arrangements for the order I quickly went to Raine to fill her in on what just happened. "Can you imagine the nonsense" I said when I got to her. "What is it this time, I hope you didn't go there to insult the customer" Raine asked looking at me with so much curiosity. "Oh my dear bestie, you know we too well hunn?" I said with sarcasm dripping from my mouth. She shrugged and smiled "I'm just saying because I can't predict the things you are capable of doing these days." "Anyway I have not even been able to meet with the customer because......" "You've not been able to meet with the customer?. Where the hell did you now go to?" She asked. "Chill out miss, you didn't even let me finish before attacking me like that" "I was saying that I've not been able to meet with the customer because just as I was about to go into the building some guy bumped into me and spilled coffee all over me" I answered her. "But that isn't even the annoying part, he actually had the guts to blame for bumping into him and asked me to thank my stars that I didn't spill coffee on his suit" I said and trust me I was getting angry again recollecting what happened. "Oh no he didn't" Raine said and I'm very sure that she's already sharing the same emotion with me ‘anger’. "Yes he did but trust me I didn't let him get away with it. I made sure he paid for the coffee." I said feeling happy with myself "That's my girl" she said giving me a high five. "But I think you need to get the coffee to the customer before it gets too late, you know some people like me need coffee to start their day if they want to be productive" Raine told me and I quickly went to get the order and even added a compensatory snack then went back to the same building. I delivered the coffee and also apologized for the late delivery and thank God the person I was to deliver it to wasn't some crazy ass person like the guy from earlier so it was easy to get away with an apology and a compensation. When I came out of the building I met a very beautiful lady outside with the perfect body, perfect black hair and perfect dress which I'm very sure costs my salary for the whole year. She was looking at me and I was very confused wondering how a sophisticated looking woman like that will be smiling at me. Before I could say Tinkerbell I heard someone say to me. "Good afternoon" The lady said smiling to me. "Oh good afternoon" I replied looking flustered. "I'm Maya" she said extend her hand for a shake. I received the handshake and answered "I'm Zoe Harper, nice to meet you Maya" "Wow you are not only beautiful but you also have a nice name" "Uhhhhhh...... Thank you?" I didn't know how to reply because its not common for me to receive compliments from people especially from females. She laughed " I know its weird getting compliments from me but you know a girl needs to acknowledge beauty when she sees one" "Okay thank you but trust me you are more beautiful and classy which is making me wonder why you are talking to me" I replied honestly She placed her hand on her chest "Thank you, but why would I not want to talk to you. I actually want to be friends with you" "You want to be friends with me?. Do you just meet any girl on the street and ask her to be friends with you." I asked She laughed "No, I don't just go to any girl on the streets. I like you because I witnessed what happened earlier" "What was that?" I asked with a confused look on my face. "I'm talking about your arguments with the guy that bumped into you. I'm impressed because nobody has actually been bold enough to talk back at him before" she said. "Oh that one? So no one talks back at him? Why is that?" She looked around to check if no one was around and then whispered "Well maybe because he's the son to a billionaire, I'm sure you must have heard of the Miller's? That's their son and the heir to everything they own including the company we are standing right in front of" "Yeah I've actually heard of the Miller's before and the billions they control. Oh is that why he was acting like he rules the world? f**k him and his inheritance" She laughed her heart out and I was wondering why "You see, what you just said now is exactly why I like you" "So friends?" She stretched out again and asked. I shrugged. "Friends" I replied receiving the hand shake. We exchanged contacts and said her goodbyes while she promised to give me a call. I went back to the cafe and trust me I went straight to Raine to give her the low down of everything that transpired between I and Maya. The day went on like normal with I and Raine always discussing and making jest of some customers and Mrs Scott coming out to call us to order and tell us to stop slacking or else she will deduct it from our salary. I got home around 9pm and went straight to check up on my mum. "How's my favorite girl doing?" She greeted me with a small voice when she saw me at the door and I went in to hug her. "You talk like you have any other girl other that me" I answered smiling at her and giving her a peck on the forehead. She shrugged "Who knows" "Oh mummy!" I answered playfully. "How was work today?" "It was just the usual apart from the fact that I put a guy in his place and also made a new friend." "What guy are you talking about?" She asked and I gave her the details of what happened. "Zoe you know I've always warned you to be careful of the way you talk to people" "But mum he was being rude and.........." I wanted to defend myself but my mum won't let me. "I don't want to hear it but just be careful" she said. I crossed my hands on my chest feigning annoyance "You know sometimes I wonder why you still treat me like a child but need I remind you that I'm 27 years old" "Oh please, even when you clock 50 you will still look like a baby to me" she answered. "Anyway, I bought take out on my way home so now we eat so that you can take your medications." I gave her the food and also took out mine so we ate and she used her drugs then I tucked her into bed. I pecked her good night and headed into my room to rest for the day.
