Lev watched the elevator swallow Iva whole, her hair pulled forward to hide the marks he had left. And something low and primal twisted in his chest as the doors slid shut. A moment later, his phone vibrated. It was Iva. He unlocked the screen immediately, seeing not only her call but also a text she had sent minutes earlier.
He answered, and Iva told him she wanted to give him a heads-up that Nik would be joining their father in the ice garden. Of course, he would. The man seemed determined to shove his way into every corner of Lev’s world.
Iva didn’t ask the real question--would Lev join them? But the hesitation in her voice made it clear that was what she wanted to know and that she feared the answer.
