AWR Chapter 46: He loves me

1671 Words
"Look at how she stares at you. It's like she wanted to hold you accountable for anything. She can't be serious." She said as she shook her head. She leaned closer in front of me as she glanced at the heated loveteam. "Don't mind them. Just eat and after this, we'll leave." I said. She nodded as she chewed the pasta in a fast motion. I could still hear arguments and yet I just kept quiet and never looked at them. I noticed some of my classmates were whispering at each other. It's as if they were betting to themselves who would Gavin choose among the two of us. I don't care anymore. I don't want to be that important person in this situation. I want Gavin to reconcile to his girlfriend. I guess they look good together. Having an ex-girlfriend that is close to perfection? I don't think Gavin won't change his mind getting back to her. "You know what? I guess Klaire is really out of her mind," "Ouch!" Sheira added as soon as I pinched her arm. She was so talkative we might be busted right away. I don't want Klaire to hear us talking about her. I finished my food ahead of Sheira. She noticed that I am done with my food so she also ate fast. We stood up almost at the same time, picked our bags and started walking away. I noticed Klaire stopped Gavin with a frown on her face. Even so, she is following us with her gaze, a piercing gaze that's so meaningful...I felt like it could melt me any time. I pulled Sheira's hand to walk fast this time. We couldn't be staying within the vicinity for so long. Especially that some of the students were also gaining interest from the scene that they are witnessing right now. "Wow, I always wish to be famous but not this one." Sheira commented as she looked back. I pulled her arms to let her know that she should walk fast this time. "Don't look at them. They might think that we really care. Gosh I want to be invisible just for once." "Wow, you should dare not to. Look at the sudden attention people give you." "Of course, my reaction would be just like you. I don't want to gain this much attention, especially that I am the talk of the town because of a scandal." "Why would some people enjoy talking about the lives of others? Gosh." "Ask them," I said as I shook my head. We are nearing the gate now. I saw Sheira glancing at her watch. "Is it time to part ways?" "It is up to you, of course." I smiled weakly. "Well, I should go home." She smirked. "Why? Your mom said it is fine if you stay with me for a while," "Whatever happens later, I will beep you, I promise." "Sheira...what are you thinking?" "Seeing and staying with you just made me realize some things." "Things? Like what? I never knew you know how to emote something like that." "Never mind me that much. I just miss stressing my mother out. Would you be okay alone tonight?" "It would be better if you're with me in my room." I replied with a smile. Sheira's facial expression changed a bit. She bit her lower lip and glanced on the side as if thinking what's the best way to do this time. "Well, I miss my mom. It's nice to give her stress sometimes. I will sleep in your house tomorrow. I promise." "That's a deal, alright?" "Of course!" We gave each other a high five before she waved goodbye. She usually rides a bus going to their house. Now, I have to go back to school, specifically to the parking lot where my car is located. I just think of a shortcut so that I can reach my car right away. I opened the door of the driver's seat. I went inside and sat down, holding my steering wheel. However, I felt lazy all of a sudden. I don't want to move right away. I was about to start my engine when familiar people walked in front of my car. It was already getting late that afternoon. I could see few to none students roaming around the parking lot. Klaire was still pulling Gavin. I noticed Gavin was resisting but in a gentler way possible. I could see that he doesn't want to offend her in public, either. Klaire smiled and I noticed he somehow sighed as he stood in front of her. All of a sudden, in just a blink of an eye, she put her arms around her neck. Gavin is much taller than her that's why she hugged her as she lifted the heels of her feet to reach his lips. She's about to kiss his lips when I closed my eyes. What the nerve! And they really did that in front of my face! I was able to put my hands on the horn between the steering wheel and it suddenly echoed a beeping sound in front of them. I noticed Klaire almost jumped out of being scared. I also see Gavin gazing right through me. The most epic of all scenes, he saw my reaction and what I am doing inside my driver's seat. My car is not tinted and they could really see that it is me. I beeped my horn as I started my car's engine. Klaire is frowning while stepping aside. Gavin is also looking at me while I moved my car outside our school. I can see that he was still looking at me through my rearview mirror. How is it possible to fall in love with him when he is clearly showing all the possible things and reasons I hated in a man? I imagine letting him into my life and betraying like this face to face? How much more if we're already in a relationship? I know he will hurt me more than I expect him to be. That's why I don't want my heart to be involved in this kind of feeling easily. I want to end whatever that is bothering me. I should consider this one urgent as soon as possible. I should stop this feeling before it will be too late for me. ---- I felt hungry driving around town in circles. I badly wanted to eat something that I missed the most. Cinnamon rolls. I remembered Stellar's cafe located at the edge of the crossroad. Good thing there's a parking space for cars at the back of this cafe. The owner of this cafe is a dear friend of mom's. As I entered the cafe, Miss Lena was in the moment of closing the cafe any time. However, her face lit as soon as she saw me entering the door. "Rebecca!" Her resounding excitement almost made the whole staff of her cafe focus their attention to me. "Miss Lena!" I rushed to her and hugged her tight. She's a petite woman. She's taller than me by four inches. Every time I looked at her, I could remember my mom and it made me tear up a bit every time. "I'm so sorry dear," She wiped my tears as she led me to one of the chairs. We sat down and she was able to gesture to one of the staff. The staff nodded as if getting her completely. "How are you, by the way? I missed you so much." "I'm okay, miss Lena. I am still moving on. Thank you so much." I noticed the staff came holding a tray. When she put all the food on the table, I couldn't help but stare at the beautiful cinnamon rolls with a cup of hot chocolate on the side. "Thanks," I sipped on the tip of the cup of hot chocolate and I couldn't stop my tears from falling. I also took a big bite of that cinnamon roll. Miss Lena wiped my tears as she also chuckled. I can also sense that she's getting emotional, too. "I am thankful to your mom, dear. She was able to share her secret recipe of her cinnamon rolls to me. It was one of the bestsellers ever since I baked this one." "Yeah, I miss this one. That's why I am here." I enjoyed eating the bread that I almost munched three pieces. "Please visit here more often. I need beautiful faces to display to my cafe at times, you know." I chuckled a bit as soon as I heard it from miss Lena. She was indeed mom's best friend. I really don't visit her on purpose because every time I do it, my knees will shake uncontrollably. "Yes, miss. I will. Thank you so much for preparing this for me. You never know how much this means to me." She nodded as she tapped my shoulders. She smiled as she pulled me closer to her. She hugged me tight that I couldn't help but to sob. I realized I miss my mom so much. It's like she just left a big hole in my heart when she passed away. "Hush now, dear. I know your mom is in a better place right now. No heartaches. No pain." "Thank you, miss Lena." "She is just everywhere. Looking after you. Don't worry." Miss Lena slowly let go of me. I held both of her hands as she smiled at me. "Feeling better?" "Yes, miss Lena." "How was your father, by the way?" As soon as she asked that question, I looked into her eyes. For the first time, I didn't know why she asked him from me all of a sudden. She sighed as she understood how my facial expression went as soon as I heard words related to him. "Well, I think there are things you still don't know about." She said as she started to stare at me blankly. What is it, this time?
