Chapter 10
Alpha Darius’ POV
Catching her before she fell, I didn’t expect her to faint, but it was good that at least she agreed to stay here if I proved she lived among wolves. I don’t know how she will take to the shift. I know it's coming and it's going to be harder for her to accept.
“That didn’t work as well as you thought it would,” Daniel said grabbing some shorts. “Now what?”
“She agreed to stay if I can prove to her that we are wolves.” I mused carrying her into the house. “So now she stays and we don’t have to worry about the rogue king.”
“She might not agree to it,” he said shaking his head. “I know you think she will be open to this, but she was afraid when I first came up.”
“I know, most humans would be afraid if something that big came at them too,” I said looking down at her. “She is my mate, the sparks are there. The need for her is there, I don’t know how or why this happened but I cannot lose her.”
“I know, and we’re going to do everything we can to protect her, even if you have to send her back to the city. You know just as well as I do a rejection will kill you.” he sighed. “So for now you are going to have to do what she wants, and she will come around, the mate bond will be sure of that.”
He is right I don’t want to make her stay here and if she keeps her word then that gives me some time to get to know her and figure out how to make her fall in love with me. “I don’t want her leaving here,” I said as we left her room. “This is all too much for her, and I can tell she is in flight mode, she does know about us, and you are right it's her. This is fate.”
“Fate.” he smiled. “Finally someone is listening to me, I told you your mate didn’t die. Her body died, but her soul is in that girl, and she will gain her wolf and you will figure out how to keep her safe.”
“Yeah she will stay guarded when I am not here, I won't let what happened to Anna happen to this Anna.”
I am scared about how things are going to be when she wakes up. I hope she is as open-minded as me, and she does see that we’re not going to hurt her, and she is going to be safe. I hope she trusts me enough to get her through whatever she has to go through.
“We need to find the rogue king.”
“So we can end him.”
“Not yet, I want to know how he knew about her before I even sensed it,” I said walking into the office. “I want to beat him until he tells me.”
“And if he doesn’t?” he asked leaning against the door. “You shouldn’t keep him alive, he almost killed our Luna, again.” he sighed.
“I don’t plan to get him alive, I know he is the reason we lost our Luna, but I am also the reason, I left her unprotected.”
“She had the pack protecting her.”
“And I should have been here to protect her, now I have my second chance I won't be letting that happen again, you are going to stay behind when I need to leave the lands,” I said walking to the desk. “There is that conference coming up, she needs you.”
“I got it.” he mused. “I knew you were going to leave me here before you thought about it. I plan to stay, and you can take the Gamma in my place, I am sure he will do good. Besides he might be up for a promotion.”
“I don’t need two Betas.”
“Sure you do, one that stays here and one that goes with you.” he mused. “If you want me to protect Anna, then you need to promote him, that way he sees you see the potential in him and he will do a lot of the stuff I didn’t want to do but forced you to do,” he smirked.
“Fine I will think about it, but don’t expect it to happen.”
Even though he is right, I don’t want him to think I am replacing him because he has to stay behind. He’s the only one I can trust enough to put his life in front of hers if needed. I hope it never happens again, but if the rogue king finds her and knows about her, I wonder who else knows about her and if she is really in danger.
“I need to go to the GYM, there is an issue.” he sighed. “Watch over her.”
I didn’t say anything, I crept into her room, her heart was back to normal so she was sleeping. Part of me wants to wake her up and talk to her, but the other part of me doesn’t want to make this worse than it already is. I don’t know what I am going to do if she fights me on leaving. Yeah, she agreed to stay if I could prove we were wolves, but that doesn’t mean anything.
I can see my Anna in her for some reason I don’t know why the Moon goddess would send her back in another body, I am glad she did but this is a little weird for me. I close my eyes and try and calm myself, this isnt going to be easy to do. She isnt going to be as open to us as I thought, I mean she might be but I don’t know.
“Why are you watching me sleeping?” she whispered breaking me out of my thoughts.
“I, uh wanted to make sure you were alright, you fainted outside.” I sighed. “I know you have questions.”
“No,” she said sitting up. “That was a dream, there is no way you can shift into a wolf, or a wolf can shift into a man.”
“Anna.” I sighed. “I know you don’t want to believe me, but we are wolves. You are going to shift into one and you will figure things out when your wolf comes, but I need you to stay here until we figure this out. I have to keep you safe.”
When she didn’t say anything, I knew she was thinking about this. If I didn’t find her when I did she would be dead. “I know you are afraid that we’re going to hurt you, but you don’t have to worry about it. You can leave here when you want, but you will have armed guards with you.”
“I don’t need a babysitter, if I agreed to stay here if you proved to me that you can shift, then I guess I have to keep my word.”
“For some reason, I don’t believe you,” I said, narrowing my eyes. “You are going to try and run from us, but we don’t want that.” I sighed. “Please stay and see how things are done, I will help you with your first shift, and if you are comfortable leaving here knowing you’ll want to come back here, then I will feel better about you leaving.”
She didn’t say anything, I can tell she is worried about things. “I will make things work for us here, I promise you are going to be safe. When I find the rogue king and kill him, I will feel better about a lot of things.”
“Wait you’re going to kill him?” she said looking worried. “Why not turn him in to the police, let them put him to death that way.”
“As werewolves, we don’t involve the human police, they don’t see our kind as friendly, that is why I am worried about you going back to the city. You’ve never shifted, and you haven't gotten your wolf yet so I don’t want you going there to die either.”
She didn’t say anything.
“Get some rest, my office is down the hall as you know I will be up until 2 if you want to talk or be around someone,” I said walking to the door. “Good night Anna.”
