DARK DAY
It was a sunday morning, with no rays of sun penetrating through my small wooden window like usual. A visibly gloomy weather and sudden sensational breeze howling around me created an instinct that something bad is going to happen, something terrible just like the life I was living in Norway.
Dodging my instincts I continued following my morning routine which starts with yoga followed by a shower and a breakfast. I was never a routine-person however I had just started trying to be one, after I realized that my life needed consistency a few days earlier. Though it was a Sunday, a holiday indeed I was just about to head towards my study table, when I suddenly heard a thunderous noise.
Everybody in my small 9 storey apartment started screaming insanely. My flatmate Adeline, who had just got herself into shower , started panicking. I could hear her shouting my name “Emilia what’s goin’ on? What’s happenin’ ? I am trembling here”.
‘Come on out Ade, we gotta head downstairs. I think it's an earthquake dear’ I said confusingly, while I was watching everything around me plunge down- TVs , books from the case, cabinets and my own stuff.
‘Hurry up Ade, we’ve got no time, we gotta go’ I shouted while knocking hard on the bathroom.
I heard no response from inside, that scared the hell out of me. I banged the door continuously, I knocked several times. I shouted again and again “Ade, Adeline ,come on Ade. Hey , can you hear me Ade? ’’ None of it worked. I started panicking, I couldn’t think of things that I could do right there.
The room was vibrating and the walls were swinging, It sounded like a bulldozer trying to demolish houses. My heart started pounding out of my chest. I could sense my brain signaling me to run at the speed of light if possible but humanity inside me didn’t let me go, running for my life leaving Ade inside there. I knelt down where I was standing, lifted my arms up to cover my head and I took a deep breath.
I caught a glance on my apartment neighbour heading downstairs speedily making unusual noises from my 5th storied front gateway. I saw a ray of hope to figure out what happened to Adeline. I shouted “hey help me out, my flatmate’s stuck inside the bathroom. She isn't responding’’ . Little did I know their eyes would wave me goodbye instead of helping me out. How did I dare to think that people will choose to help some strange person over saving their own life. They just continued running downstairs as if they didn’t hear a word.
I stood up with little rage and little courage, while the whole building was shaking like a columbus. I headed towards the store room taking the support of the wall and furniture which were still standing erect. It might have been a minute since it started shaking.
I caught my eyes on a long metallic iron rod inside the store room, exactly what I was looking for. I ran and I grabbed it. I had just turned back with little ease in my heart when I saw a tall building completely falling down from my back wide window . Debris fell from other tall buildings. That scared the hell out of me. I thought it was the end of the world. I started to feel dizzy but I stood strong. I ran towards the bathroom and hit the door with the rod releasing my fullest energy. It wasn’t as easy as it looked in the movies to unlock a door like this.
‘Hey, what’re you doing there, get down’ I heard a voice approaching near me. I followed my eyesight after my ear and I saw a tall, handsome, good looking guy approaching me from my front main gateway. My heart melted but I didn’t stop hitting on the door but I was definitely lagging the force.
‘Liam, where are you going ? Have you lost your mind? Get back here, son’ shouted an old lady outside.
‘Trust him mom, he’s gonna get down on time’ said a teenage girl pulling that old lady towards their way down while that guy grabs my rod and throws it away and pulls me outside.
‘Stop, you wackass my friend is stuck here. I gotta get her out’ I spouted in an outrageous voice. We felt the strongest shaking right after a milli-second. I started feeling unsteady. I got dizzy.
