Vito was ready to go to his work that morning. He opened the door of his house and to his surprise, he saw a baby who was soundly sleeping in a bassinet. He looked around the neighbourhood with his eyebrows drawn together but everything was silent. Just like a casual day in the place. Without any second thought, he picked up the bassinet that was in front of his doorsteps and then he walked back quietly heading to the living room. Though his heart was beating fast because he felt the baby was so fragile. This was the first time that he carried a little human and he was thankful that the baby was inside the basket. He couldn’t help but stare at the baby. He was innocent. His cheeks were so fluffy. He couldn’t imagine how would feel if he squeezed those chubby cheeks. His skin was soft and silky. Probably his parents were good looking. But why would they leave such an innocent angel alone in someone else’s door? Would they really have the heart to leave such a cute baby? He couldn’t believe it. There were a lot of things that were running inside his mind while he was walking inside the house. When Vito saw his housemaid coming from the laundry room with a vacuum cleaner on her hand, he immediately gestured for her to go back and keep quiet. He couldn’t understand himself but even if he just saw the baby, he felt strange. It was as if he wanted the baby in his life. It was as if there was a missing space in his life that was suddenly filled in the moment he saw him. Strange and weird feeling which he couldn’t explain. Though he saw the confusion on the servant’s face, she still listened to him and then after that he asked her to come back and bear with him. “Leanna, I found this baby outside of the doorstep. By any chance, do you know how to take care of a baby?” He asked the servant while he was hoping that she could help him out. To his gladness, the servant nodded her head and smiled at him. “Yes, sir. As I have my children too,” she said and then she looked at the baby that he found. He looked at the servant. She had been doing a lot of things inside the house. So, if she would be taking care of the baby, he wanted her full attention to the child. But how would she even do that if she had to manage the things in the house? “That’s great but you cannot do both jobs,” he replied, and he suddenly thought about what he should be doing. He didn’t know why he was doing it. He could simply report to the police station that he found the baby on his doorstep but there was something in him that was holding him back from reporting the incident. It was as if he felt that the baby belonged to him. Vito was sitting on the couch next to the baby bassinet when all of a sudden, the doorbell rang and because of the sound of it, the baby suddenly cried. It seemed that he was startled with the sudden loud sound that came from the doorbell. Vito’s eyebrows were drawn together while wondering who rang the bell. “Oh, s**t,” he cursed as he started to panic. “Go and check who rang the bell,” he commanded and then he immediately took the baby on the bassinet. He couldn’t describe the emotions that started to be inside of him while he was looking at the little boy. It didn’t take long, and Vito heard a sound of heels approaching in his direction. He saw Cathy. The woman was smiling at him. She was wearing a floral dress. It was simple and yet it was captivating. Just perfect for the innocent woman. “Vi---” Cathy’s eyes went wide when her eyes went to the baby bassinet that was in front of him and the baby that was inside his arms. “God, you already have a baby?” She said full of shock in her voice. “It’s your fault. You made him cry,” he said instead of answering her question. He wanted to get pissed off, but he knew that Cathy didn’t know that there was a baby inside his house. “Give the baby to me,” Cathy said in a firm tone, and he immediately gave it to her without having any second thought. He was just looking at the woman who was so confident to take the baby from him. After Cathy carried the baby, the little boy suddenly went quiet and then he went back to sleep. It seemed that the baby boy liked Cathy. “Where are you going?” Vito asked when he realised that she was dressed up. Cathy had grown up since he first met her. She was a grown-up lady now. He couldn’t imagine how time flew so fast for them. Soon, they would be getting married and would have their own lives. “I am asking for your help. I badly need a job,” she said to him. Cathy was the sister of his best friend, Emmanuel. He was two years older to her. She was still in college while Emmanuel was already in London, and he already started to work from there. Emmanuel and Cathy were already orphans. Their last relatives were the best friend of his grandfather, but he died before their graduation in college making them orphans. He nodded. “Do you really need a job?” He asked as he looked intently at the woman. An idea suddenly came inside his head when he heard that the woman was looking for a job. She nodded while she was trying to dance the baby so he wouldn’t wake up because of the sounds of their voice. “Of course. Like what I said, I badly needed it.” “Okay, you are hired,” he said. Cathy would be the little boy’s caretaker. Since it looked like he was comfortable with the woman. The proof was when the baby went quiet as soon as Cathy took him from him. “Wow, really?” Vito could see the excitement in Cathy’s eyes. “Yes, your job is to take care of that baby. You have to keep your eye on him, and you don’t have to do anything else.” “Oh, but where is his mother?” Cathy asked, full of wonder. She was looking at the boy who was soundly sleeping in her arms. “The baby had no mother,” he replied. He had no idea where the baby came from but all he knew was he wanted the baby to be a part of his life. “Please take care of the little boy. I have some important meetings that I cannot cancel but I will come after lunch. Get yourself ready and the baby later, we are going shopping,” he said and then he left without waiting for Cathy to respond. Vito didn’t know why he needed to keep the baby. He felt like there was something strange in the baby that caught his interest. And the sudden arrival of Cathy who was looking for a job was just right on timing. He didn’t need to look for someone else to take care of the little boy. Though he couldn’t help but wonder who left the innocent baby in front of his doorstep. He needed to give the things that the baby needed and then he would be waiting for a few days before he filed the papers for adoption. It sounded crazy but he was really interested in the baby he found. He drove his car heading to the Persian hotel for a business meeting. Alan was already outside of the hotel waiting for him. “Good morning, sir,” the man greeted him as soon as he saw him. “Good morning, Alan. Is everyone there already?” He asked since it was already time and it looked like his personal assistant was not in a hurry. Alan shook his head. “No, sir. But according to the assistant of Mr. Yan, they are already on their way,” Alan said. It seemed like his personal assistant already knew that he was not happy because the investors weren’t there yet. “And what time is the last call that you made to them?” Vito was strict when it comes to time, and he must admit that he got the attitude from his grandfather. Every second was important for them. A wasted time was also like a wasted money. So, they were just being wise when it came to it. A loss of time means a loss of money for them. And he couldn’t understand why some people seemed to be lenient when it comes to it. Time was something that they could never turn back. Vito learned everything from his grandfather. He was strict and yet he did make sense when he was explaining it to him. Alan looked at his wristwatch and then he shook his head. “In ten minutes if they are still not here, call off the meeting. I am not going to wait for them. I have a lot of things to do especially now that someone is waiting for me,” he mumbled. He didn’t have all the time in the world to wait for these people. He couldn’t help but feel disappointed why some people couldn’t just go to their committed time. “Girlfriend, sir?” Alan asked. “No, it’s a baby,” he said, smiling at his personal assistant. Vito couldn’t explain but there was something with the baby that he wanted to keep. He saw the shock cross Alan’s face when he heard what he said. “Hey, don’t look at me like that. Yes, it’s a baby but it’s not what you think. Someone left the baby on my doorstep,” he exclaimed. Alan’s eyebrows were drawn together. “Wow, that’s a blessing,” but his personal assistant looked at him. “But sir, you have to report it. Because it could be a scam. I heard some syndicates would leave a baby in front of the house and then they would be asking for a big amount of money from the people who found the babies.” Vito suddenly went quiet. Alan made his point. “Well, you are right. Call Lieutenant Gabriel for me. Tell him that I am coming there after my meeting here,” he commanded. He will make everything legal with the little boy even though that would mean using all his connections. “Yes, sir,” Alan replied when the private room of the restaurant was finally opened. It was the Japanese investors that they were waiting for. His assistant along with a waiter who guided them. They gave their order to the waiter. And since it was a breakfast meeting, Vito only ordered a cup of coffee and a croissant for himself. When everything was noted by the waiter and he left, they started to discuss their main agenda for their business collaboration. As soon as the meeting ended, Vito and Alan went straight to the police station. He didn’t want to delay reporting the baby to avoid any unpleasant situation. This time, it was Alan who was driving the car while he was texting Cathy. He was checking how the baby was doing. “How is the baby?” Vito’s message to Cathy, whom he left the baby with earlier before he went to the office. “You asshole! How could you just leave without knowing what the baby’s needs are? I cannot believe you. I will send your servant to buy milk powder, bottle feeding and diapers.” “I am sorry, I don’t have any idea on what to do. That’s why I needed to hire you,” he said to the woman. “God. Whatever. How did he even survive? When did his mother leave him to you?” Cathy asked one after the other. “The truth is that he just arrived at the house a few minutes ahead of you today.’
