Feelings

But as Georgia walked back to class, she couldn't shake the feeling that something had changed between them. There was a new understanding, a new awareness that had taken root in her heart. She didn't know what it meant yet, but she could feel it there, growing quietly in the background of her thoughts. Meanwhile, as Karl stood there, watching Georgia walk away, his mind was a jumble of conflicting emotions. He replayed their conversation in his head, the way she had looked at him, the softness in her voice. It was so different from the girl who had always seemed so distant, so unreachable. What had changed? And why did he care so much? As he pondered these questions, a shadow fell over his thoughts. Standing not too far away, hidden from view by the curve of the hallway, was Mellisa. She had seen it all—the way Karl had smiled at Georgia, the way his eyes had softened when he talked to her. The sight filled her with a burning, bitter jealousy. Mellisa had always prided herself on being the one who could command Karl's attention, the one who could make him smile. But now, seeing him so wrapped up in Georgia, something inside her snapped. Her hands clenched into fists at her sides, and she could feel her heart pounding with rage. This wasn't just jealousy—it was something darker, something more dangerous. The anger inside her boiled over, and she barely noticed Alexis and Miara approaching. They both saw the look on Mellisa's face and immediately knew something was wrong. "What's going on?" Miara asked, her voice filled with concern. "You look like you're ready to murder someone." Mellisa didn't answer right away. Her eyes were still locked on Karl, who had turned away and was heading back toward the dormitory. When she finally spoke, her voice was low, almost a growl. "That girl..." Alexis and Miara followed her gaze and spotted Georgia walking back into the classroom. "Isn't that Karl?" Alexis asked, frowning. "What's he doing with her?" "I'm going to kill that girl," Mellisa spat out, her voice shaking with fury. "I swear, I'm going to teach her a lesson she'll never forget." Neither Alexis nor Miara had seen Mellisa this angry before, and they exchanged a worried glance. "Are you sure you're not overreacting?" Miara ventured, but she knew it was a futile question. Mellisa was too far gone to listen to reason. "Overreacting?" Mellisa snapped, turning to glare at Miara. "Did you see the way he looked at her? He's never looked at me like that! Never! And it's all because of that red-haired witch." "Mellisa, calm down," Alexis said, trying to soothe her. "Maybe it's not what you think. Maybe—" "Shut up!" Mellisa interrupted, her voice cutting through Alexis's words like a knife. "I'm not going to let her take him from me. I won't let that happen." As Mellisa's anger reached a boiling point, Karl had already entered the dormitory, his mind still spinning from his conversation with Georgia. He barely noticed Stevon, who was lounging on his bed, scrolling through his phone. "Hey, Karl," Stevon called out as Karl walked by. "Everything okay between you and Mellisa? Haven't seen you two together lately." Karl stopped in his tracks, his thoughts suddenly jolted back to reality. "Emm... yeah, everything's fine," he lied, trying to sound nonchalant. Stevon raised an eyebrow, clearly not convinced. "You sure about that? You don't seem like yourself." Karl forced a smile, but it didn't reach his eyes. "It's nothing, really." Stevon studied him for a moment longer, then shrugged. "Alright, if you say so. But, you know, it's been a while since I saw you guys together. That's not like you." Karl felt a pang of guilt at Stevon's words, but he quickly pushed it aside. "Yeah, well... things have been a little... complicated." "Complicated?" Stevon echoed, his curiosity piqued. Karl hesitated, not really wanting to get into it. "It's nothing, Stevon. Just... stuff. Don't worry about it." Stevon shrugged again, clearly sensing that Karl wasn't in the mood to talk. "Okay, man. If you say so. See you later." As Stevon walked out of the room, Karl collapsed onto his bed, staring up at the ceiling. His mind was still racing, and no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't stop thinking about Georgia. He couldn't stop wondering why she had such an effect on him, why her smile, her voice, her very presence seemed to turn his world upside down. "What's wrong with me?" Karl muttered to himself. "Why can't I stop thinking about her? This is crazy..." But even as he said the words, he knew there was no going back. Something had shifted between him and Georgia, something he couldn't ignore. And the more he tried to make sense of it, the more he realized that he was in deeper than he had ever intended. Meanwhile, back in the girls' hostel, Georgia lay awake in her bed, her mind equally troubled. She kept replaying her conversation with Karl, the way he had looked at her, the way he had smiled. She had expected to feel awkward, uncomfortable even, but instead, there had been something almost... comforting about it. "What's happening to me?" she whispered into the darkness, her heart heavy with confusion. The next morning, the tension was still thick in the air as Georgia and Horla made their way to class. Georgia was trying to focus on catching up with her lessons, but her mind kept drifting back to Karl. She wondered if he would be waiting for her again, if he would want to talk more. And even though the thought made her nervous, there was also a small part of her that was looking forward to it. When they reached their lockers, Georgia hurriedly gathered her books, trying to shake off the thoughts that were clouding her mind. "Are you done?" Horla asked, glancing at her with a curious expression. "Coming!" Georgia called back, stuffing her things into her bag. They walked toward the classroom, chatting and laughing as they went, but the moment they turned the corner, Georgia's laughter died in her throat. Standing in front of the classroom door, just like the day before, was Karl. For a split second, Georgia thought about turning around and walking the other way, but it was too late. Karl had already seen her, and their eyes locked once more. Just like before, it felt as though time had slowed, the world around them fading into the background. Horla noticed the change in Georgia's demeanor and followed her gaze. When she saw Karl standing there, she couldn't help but feel a mix of amusement and concern. She knew something was going on between them, something more than just a casual acquaintance. But what it was, she couldn't quite put her finger on. Karl seemed just as startled as Georgia, but he quickly recovered, offering her a small, almost shy smile. "Hey," he said, his voice soft. "Hey," Georgia replied, her voice barely above a whisper. Horla watched the exchange with keen interest, sensing the tension between them. She wasn't sure what had happened, but she knew that whatever it was, it was important. "Well, I'll leave you two to it," she said, giving Georgia a reassuring pat on the shoulder before walking away. As soon as Horla was out of earshot, Karl stepped closer to Georgia, his expression serious. "Can we talk?" he asked, his voice tinged with urgency. Georgia nodded, not trusting herself to speak. They moved away from the classroom door, finding a quiet spot where they wouldn't be overheard. For a moment, neither of them spoke. The silence was heavy, filled with unspoken thoughts and emotions. Finally, Karl broke the silence. "I've been thinking a lot about what happened yesterday," he began, his voice low and steady. "Me too," Georgia admitted, her heart pounding in her chest. Karl looked at her, his eyes searching hers for any sign of what she was feeling. "I don't know what's going on between us," he said slowly, "but I can't stop thinking about you." Georgia's breath caught in her throat. She had been trying to avoid these feelings, trying to push them away, but hearing Karl say it out loud made it all the more real. "I... I feel the same way," she confessed, her voice trembling slightly. Karl reached out and took her hand, his touch sending a jolt of electricity through her. "I don't know where this is going," he said softly, "but I want to find out. Do you?" Georgia looked up at him, her heart in her eyes. She knew that this was risky, that getting involved with Karl could complicate her life in ways she wasn't prepared for. But at that moment, none of that seemed to matter. "Yes," she whispered, "I want to find out too." Karl's face broke into a smile, one of genuine happiness. "Then let's figure this out together," he said, squeezing her hand gently. Before Georgia could respond, the school bell rang, signaling the start of class. They both jumped, the sound snapping them back to reality. "We should go," Georgia said, her voice tinged with regret. "Yeah," Karl agreed, though he seemed reluctant to let go of her hand. "But... can we talk more later?" Georgia nodded, a small smile tugging at the corners of her lips. "I'd like that." As they parted ways and headed to their respective classes, neither of them noticed Mellisa watching from a distance, her eyes narrowing in anger. She had seen everything, and the sight of Karl holding Georgia's hand had fueled her jealousy into a blazing inferno. As she watched them, her mind raced with thoughts of revenge. How dare Georgia, of all people, come between her and Karl? The idea that someone she considered beneath her could capture Karl's attention was unbearable. Mellisa clenched her fists so tightly that her nails dug into her palms, but the pain only fueled her determination. She had to do something—anything—to make sure Georgia understood who really controlled things around here. But she couldn't act rashly; no, she needed a plan, something that would completely humiliate Georgia and force Karl to see her for who she truly was. Mellisa turned on her heel and stormed down the hallway, her mind already beginning to piece together the details of her scheme. She would need Alexis and Miara's help, but they were easily swayed. They'd do anything to stay on her good side. Meanwhile, in the classroom, Georgia tried to focus on the lesson, but her thoughts kept drifting back to Karl. Every time she replayed their conversation in her mind, she felt a mixture of excitement and fear. What had they just agreed to? Was she really ready to explore whatever this was between them? And what would Horla think if she found out? As if on cue, Horla nudged her with an elbow. "Hey, you've been spaced out since we got here. What's going on?"
