Chapter 1
ELENA's POV
Every detail had to be perfect. I adjusted the candles and checked the layout one last time under the soft, bright blue light built into the walls.
"Excited for tonight?" Anna asked. My best friend's smile was as bright as sunshine as she looked me up and down.
I nodded with a wide grin. We had been working tirelessly since dawn to get the room ready. It was my fifth wedding anniversary with Alpha Marcus, and I couldn't wait to surprise him.
I had planned to make it a surprise for him this time, and I had even purchased a delicate hand-embroidered silk nightgown in a soft moonlight blue hue.
"You know, you could always stop anticipating this relationship with him; he might not even remember your anniversary. Who knows?" Anna said with sarcasm, rolling her eyes at me.
She had been on my neck for some time now about my husband and how I had to cling to him all the time.
"Well, you can't be certain about this, can you?" I said to her, hoping he hadn't forgotten what today was about. I mean, as confident I could, my heart still sank at the thought of it.
He had been away for so long, and I had noticed some changes in his behaviour, although I highly doubted it was because of me.
Anna sighed as she shrugged. "Well, given his attitude, who knows? You need to stop building your continent around him," She mumbled before dropping the little candlelight on the bed.
"All set for the day, and thanks, but no thanks; he's my world, you know this already, so why would I stop building my life around him?" I asked her, moving toward the wardrobe.
"He doesn't see you as one; you know that," She responded, and I sighed deeply.I make sure I am not affected by every one of her sentences.
Her words might have been true, but I couldn't help but stick to my husband. Besides, he was an alpha, and he was always busy, which was quite understandable more than anything. He needed my support in his pack and also in his life.
Dismissing her words, I asked, "Are you leaving, or will you stay over until everything is set? The maid can help us with food while I wear my clothes. If you want, you can..."
"Well, I wish I could stay over, but, nah, I have a mate who's desperately craving me at home, and I wouldn't miss the night for anything else," she cut me off, She slowly stood to her feet.
She had been sitting on the sofa in the room, even after we were done with the arrangements.
"Okay then, I guess we have no choice. I'll see you off."
"Sure, that is it. Off we go," she responded, nodding to me.
I stood up and escorted her out of the house. The walk to the pack border was a silent one. I was preoccupied with the thought of my husband. Lately, I knew his attitude had changed towards me, but I doubted it had anything to do with me since he was always complaining about work whenever I thought about his attitude. I couldn't help but let Anna's words stick in my head as I stopped at the gate.
"Alright, extend my greetings to Kelvin," I told her, waving.
"Sure, I will. Make sure to keep me updated on this, and if he doesn't show up, call me over."She instructed me , I watched her place her hands in her ear.
"He'll show up; Marcus isn't like that. He's your Alpha, remember?"I asked , hoping she would understand, but she only rolled her eyes weirdly as she answered absentmindedly.
"Yeah," she said with sarcasm. "He's my alpha, but lately, his attitude is saying otherwise," she added as she embraced me in a tight hug before finally letting go of me.
She waved at me one last time, and a smile curled up on my face as I turned to walk toward the building.
My heart constantly hammered in my chest, with the thought of Anna's words lingering in my head.
We had been married for a long time now, and we hadn't gotten an heir, and I couldn't believe I was actually carrying his child right now.
The heir to the Moonview pack was here.
A smile curled on my face, and with my hands dropping to my stomach, a sudden surge of excitement washed through me as I imagined how Marcus would react to the news of my pregnancy, especially given the fact that this was what he always wanted, and this was the reason for our constant fights and disagreements.
Marcus had been more than a good husband for the past five years of our marriage, and not being able to reward him with any pups yet had been my constant worry, as I saw this as the cause of his change in attitude.
I wished and prayed to the moon goddess that the news of this pregnancy would bring peace back into my home as soon as possible.
I missed my husband so dearly and his show of affection towards me.
"I really hope he will be happy about this," I mumbled, entering the house, and I saw the maids standing at the entrance of the door.
Their eyes were gazing at me as I walked in, which was quite unusual and bothersome, but I didn't bother to make a scene from it. I sighed excitedly, noticing the fact that Marcus was back.
"He's back so early; I only left for a few minutes, and he's already here, in our home," I mumbled, with an exhilarating expression on my face.
"My Luna, the Alpha instructed that you should stay behind," one of the maids said the moment I tried to make my way towards the stairs. Her head was bowing to the floor.
"Why? The last time I checked, I'm his wife and his Luna. Why this?" I asked her, but she didn't have another answer for me. She only grunted slowly, in a more whimpering tone.
"Is there something I need to know that you aren't telling me yet?" I asked again, turning to look at the maids one after the other before turning to look at the guards.
They all turned their faces away from me, which was quite new at the time.
"Well, I guess this is it," I muttered, slowly turning to walk upstairs, but another guard came in, stopping me from going further.
"And what does this mean?" I questioned the guard. He bowed his head with desperation in his voice as he spoke.
"Forgive my manners, Luna Elena, but the Alpha has instructed me to keep you here; he's in with a visitor, and he doesn't want you in," he told me, and this was becoming more intense.
Marcus came with another person. Who was that? And they were in our room? How did this come about?
I asked myself, “I see. Male or female?"
"He advised us not to disclose this to you," he said again. This was supposed to be our wedding anniversary. He should be here with me only. Why was he in our room, and who was this visitor?
"Quite odd, perhaps why not sneak in?" My inner wolf suggested.
"And get him angry?" I questioned her.
"C'mon, not a new thing; he's our mate, for all I care, and it's our wedding anniversary," she said, purring at me.
I was beginning to get worried by this sudden intrusion, and as I paced around the living room, my heart continued to hammer in my chest with the feeling of uncertainty that washed through me.
"Babe, I can't believe you were so fuckin' horny to this level that you let us drive all the way from the meeting to your home for a quickie," I heard a female voice say, and a chortled slow sound followed.
“My heart skipped as I paused to see my husband walking from the stairs with his hands on another female wolf's waist”.
