ELENA'S POV
"I warned you about him! You should have listened to me. You don't deserve to go through this torture for a man like that. He doesn't deserve you, and he certainly doesn't deserve this baby," Anna said bitterly, her voice tight with rage.
"To think he actually has the nerve to make you supervise his wedding. How dare he?" she added, pacing the room angrily.
I was far too consumed by agony and raw heartbreak to even process her words. My mind was completely fixed on my unborn pup.
Looking back at my life and how drastically everything had fallen apart, a tiny part of me had desperately hoped this was all a nightmare. I had fantasized that Marcus would walk through the door, realize his mistake, and beg for my forgiveness. But I knew that wasn't going to happen.
All hope was entirely gone. It was a sign that the Moon Goddess had cursed me, just like the rest of the pack always believed.
"You don't have to submit to this," Anna urged, stepping closer. "We can just walk away. Follow me. We can run far away from this living hell right now."
"And what about your mate?" I managed to whisper, barely pulling myself out of my spiraling thoughts.
"I don't care about that right now. I just can't stand by and watch you being forced to organize this party. And what about the baby? He doesn't deserve to treat you both like this," Anna muttered fiercely.
Before she could say anything else, the bedroom door swung open, and Chloe strutted inside.
Stopping in her tracks, Chloe looked me up and down with a condescending glare. "Pups? Don't tell me you're pregnant?" she asked, disgust peeling across her face.
"And what if she is pregnant?" Anna snapped back defensively.
Chloe merely shrugged, her eyes gleaming with malice and mockery. "Well, if she is, I highly doubt the baby belongs to the Alpha."
"What makes you say that?" I demanded, a sudden wave of fierce anger surging deep within my chest.
How dare she? I stood up on my feet, locking my eyes onto hers. If I had the strength right now, I wouldn't hesitate to tear her apart.
"I know so because there is no way you could be carrying his heir," Chloe revealed bluntly, a cruel smirk playing on her lips. "Marcus always secretly slipped morning-after pills into your routine after s*x, and even then, he always used protection."
My eyes widened in sheer shock. Knowing her manipulative nature, I naturally assumed she was just making up malicious excuses to torture me.
I scoffed at her claim, and Anna did the same. "You honestly expect me to believe a word out of your mouth?" I asked, trying to sound confident.
"Of course you wouldn't believe me—that's exactly how stupid you've been from the very beginning!" Chloe snapped exasperatedly. "What did you think was the reason you couldn't conceive a single child over the past five years?"
She let out a harsh grunt. "That should have rung a bell. Call it a lie all you want, but I was the one who actually purchased those contraceptives for him. If you really are pregnant, it just proves you aren't the innocent saint everyone thought you were."
"What do you want, and why are you here? Last time I checked, nobody invited you into this room," Anna intervened fiercely, stepping between us.
But Chloe's words hung heavily in the air, echoing like a terrifying nightmare in my ears. There was absolutely no way it could be true. Whatever she was saying, she had to be lying.
"You need to leave right now before you cause an even bigger mess. You've already done enough damage by orchestrating her divorce and stealing her mate," Anna barked angrily.
"I didn't steal anyone's mate. Marcus chose me," Chloe countered venomously. "I was in his life long before you two ever got married. She's just the other woman who chose to stay blind until the very end."
"How dare you, you shameless slut!" I yelled, completely losing my composure. Driven by pure rage, I lunged toward her.
At that exact moment, the bedroom door was violently kicked open, and Marcus stormed inside.
His rigid demeanor and icy gaze immediately cast a suffocating shadow over the entire room. It felt as though a dark cloud had rolled in, instantly freezing the atmosphere into a tense, terrifying silence.
"How dare a common slave even attempt to lay a finger on my Luna?" Marcus roared in fury, keeping both of his hands shoved coldly into his trouser pockets.
"I didn't... she... she was the one who started it," I stammered, my voice shaking as a wave of terror paralyzed me.
"Chloe started it," Anna spoke up, trying to defend me.
"You were not given permission to speak," Marcus barked, his icy voice cutting her off effortlessly. "By pack law, you are forbidden to interrupt an Alpha's discussion. I will overlook this once only because today is my wedding day. Leave this room immediately."
Anna flinched under his crushing command and quickly hurried out of the room.
My heart hammered frantically against my ribs, and terror gripped me tighter than I had ever experienced before. The moment Anna escaped, Marcus turned his lethal glare directly onto me.
"You coward. I never expected that you would also turn out to be a cheap slut, a w***e, and a common prostitute," he growled, the sheer hatred in his voice vibrating through the walls.
"I am not a w***e! And I'm not the one discarding my spouse to marry someone else," I spat back, trying to defend my dignity.
"And yet you go around sleeping with strangers, get yourself pregnant, and then try to pretend the baby is mine? You freak!" he bellowed bitterly, causing me to stumble backward in shock.
"What are you talking about?" I whispered, barely able to breathe.
"You were never supposed to get pregnant! Not while I was using protection every single time I touched you," Marcus demanded, his eyes blazing with a terrifying, wild fury. "I personally made sure you were given morning-after pills, so tell me—how the hell are you pregnant?"
Beside him, Chloe smirked triumphantly. Marcus had just validated every single word of her agonizing revelation. My heart grew heavier and more shattered than I ever thought possible.
"We will handle this after the wedding. We are having this conversation later," Marcus ordered, his voice dripping with venom. "For now, your job is to serve my guests. Strip off that dress, put on a maid's uniform, and please whoever needs to be pleased. I want you down in the banquet hall in the next twenty minutes—and make sure you cover up that disgusting thing you call a pup." He gestured aggressively toward my stomach before turning on his heel.
I watched him storm out of the room in a blind rage.
"I told you," Chloe whispered with a parting smirk. "You were nothing but a convenient s*x toy to him. As for that bastard child in your belly, you better go find out who the real father is, you whore." With that final insult, she turned and walked away.
I had foolishly thought that the public rejection and the sudden divorce were the worst pains I would ever have to endure. But facing the reality of my pregnancy, coupled with the soul-crushing realization that my own mate had been drugging me for five years just to prevent my pregnancy, hurt deeper than any blade.
How could he be so incredibly cruel? I had loved, protected, and adored him with every fiber of my being. Why did he have to break me like this? The pain, the torture, the endless humiliation—why was I targeted for this suffering?
Just two days ago, I was the revered Luna of this pack. Now, I was reduced to a despised servant carrying a child my mate labeled a mistake.
"Where is that useless slave? Get to work immediately!" a voice snapped at me from across the crowded room.
I was stationed at the entrance, welcoming arriving guests while simultaneously weaving through the crowd to serve drinks to total strangers and neighboring Alphas. Everywhere I turned, I could hear the malicious murmurs and mocking whispers. The entire room's attention was centered on my public downfall.
Their cruel words, combined with the agonizing weight of the ceremony happening right in front of me, pierced my heart deeper than I could bear.
"Go serve the high-ranking Alphas over there. You're here to work, and the Alpha strictly ordered that you handle the heaviest labor today. Why are you slacking off?" a pack woman's voice hissed at me, dripping with intense hatred.
"She still thinks she's Luna, even with that bastard child in her belly. I can't believe she was actually cheating on our Alpha this entire time," another voice whispered loudly from the crowd.
I didn't dare utter a single word in response to any of them. The only thing occupying my chest was a relentless, suffocating wave of grief, betrayal, and absolute rejection.
I bit my lip, desperately trying to hold back the tears blurring my vision. The agony I felt as I stood forced to watch my ex-mate exchange sacred wedding vows with another woman was entirely unbearable. In that exact moment, I truly felt as though the heartbreak might kill me.
