Isle poured her heart out as she sang a song talking about how she’ll survive despite of a person leaving her heart broken. Tears streamed down her face upon gulping a big chunk of beer she bought. She opened her mouth as the bitter taste of the beer spread in her stomach, letting gasp to come out, “Again!” She mumbled upon finishing the song.
“But Isle, you’ve been singing that same song for over an hour now. Why don’t we play another song? How about singing a love song for a change?” Her best friend, Kathie uttered, trying to push the numbers of a certain love song in the karaoke player but ended up not doing so when the blonde glared at her. She pouted her lips as she curled the tips of her brown wavy her with her index finger.
“No! No love song! It’s giving rough taste in my mouth. It disgusts me to the core.” Isle cried, grimacing as she uttered the word love. Who even invented the damn word? Isle sighed as she wondered how that four letter word that is so wonderful could give her so much pain. Well, maybe… just maybe that it’s not love that is hurting us deep down, but our expectation to the things around us. She placed the lip of the shot glass on hers, twirling it slightly as she got deep in her own thoughts.
“Let her be, Kathie. She’s heart broken and all we could offer her to somehow mend her broken heart is to let her sing that same song over and over again, it’s her way of easing the pain she’s feeling.” Uttered by Aurora, she is a girl with a ginger hair and freckles on her cheeks. She’s also one of Isle’s girlfriends.
She and her girlfriends usually go to the same karaoke bar every Friday. It’s their get away from all the stress that has come to them the entire week and whoever has the nicest week of them all shall be doing a dare that all of them decided but if refused, she’ll pay the bills. But because of what Isle’s been going through, even though they are midway through the entire week, they all rushed by her side.
“What exactly happened, Isle?” Monique asked. Worry etched her face as she took a tissue for the blonde.
“Yeah, what did Achlys do to you? You wore the dress I gave you to impress him but you end up shattered.” Kathie said.
“Nothing… it’s just that, I’m such a fool to believe that he likes me.” Isle mumbled as she drank a shot of tequila in front of her. Her friends looked at one another as it was visible that worry etched their face for the heartache of their friend.
“But he does. He loves you, Isle.” Aurora uttered, trying to console her but Isle just shook her head, refusing to believe it.
“If he does, then he should have told me or show it to me! I never even got a kiss from him, and then suddenly I’ll there’s news about him kissing another girl. If that’s the love that you’re talking about, then it’s bullshit.” Isle stated, causing her friends to gasp as they are not aware of the said news.
“What? What do you mean?!” Kathie cried. She was the first to react. Anger ignites within her because of what her best friend said.
“He and Vanessa kissed at the Engineer’s Gala last night. You know, he was nominated as the engineer of the year.” Isle said, letting her tears fall freely in front of them.
“What a b***h! I knew that she’s been crushing on Achlys since they’ve been introduced in one of Christian’s party, but I never thought that she’s so desperate, she knew that you’re his fiancé!” Kathie uttered angrily, all the rage she’s feeling for Achlys was averted to Vanessa.
“Ex-fiancé you mean!!” Isle butted in.
“Well… you can’t entirely blame this all to Vanessa, Kate. Men usually can’t keep their zippers up if they’re to cheat. Achlys wanted that to happen as well, ‘cause if he doesn’t, then he shouldn’t let her temp him. Are you getting my point?” Monique stated, in which Aurora agreed with a nod.
“Should we gang him up?” Aurora asked, but they were surprised when Isle started to sob as she poured herself a shot of whisky.
“Why, what’s wrong? Forget that jerk.” Kathie said, patting her at the back to somehow comfort her.
“I don’t know! Why am I so foolishly in love with him? You all know that ever since childhood I am madly smitten of him! I would follow him anywhere; fight those who tried to get close to him. He doesn’t seem to mind me doing those because if he does, then he should have given me hints since day one!” Isle started to mumble as her sobs filled the room.
“Isle…”
“Am I ugly? Am I fat? I’m usually kind to others, unless they provoke me to act like a bitch.” She cried, Monique rushed by her side and gave her a hug, hushing her like a child who lost her favourite teddy bear.
“None of those are true, sweetheart. It’s his loss to not see your worth.” Monique mumbled which caused Isle to break down further.
“If I am not one of those, then that means that he simply doesn’t like me, right? Just, what’s wrong with me?” She sobbed.
“Well… I can’t exactly say he doesn’t like you. You see, the problem is that you’re showing him too much love than what you are supposed to. It is causing him to be assured that no matter what he will do, you will end up forgiving him. I am not taking his side in this matter, you know I will always be by your side, I am telling this to you because it’s time to finally love yourself more rather than loving him more.” Aurora uttered, which caused Isle to hitch a sob back, a tear trailed her cheeks as she looked back at her friend.
“Stop crying, Isle. He is not worth your tears, more so, your love because he didn’t see how wonderful you are.” Kathie said. A smile was plastered on her lips as she wiped the tears on her cheeks. New batch of tears began to pour down as she wailed.
“Thank you, guy, because you’re my friends!” she cried between sobs, she wondered what she’d done in her previous life to have such wonderful friends by her side.
“Stop this drama now! Let’s get wasted until I’ll mentally blame you tomorrow about getting hangover in the office!” Monique cried as she raised her right hand that is holding a shot of vodka. She and the others began to laugh because of this.
“Just drink your heart out, after this I don’t want you to call us over again because of a certain asshole!” Aurora cried as well which caused the others to laugh giddily.
“Man! You’re single! Let’s go man hunting! I’ve been single for way too long!” Kathie said, as the heat of the liquor ran down her chest.
“I think I’ll pass for the meantime, like Aurora said, it’s time to finally love myself, and this time, I’m going to do it right.” Isle chuckled, bringing the shot glass on her lips again, “And besides, it’s my first time to feel how free I am.”
They continued to play the same song Isle’s singing for the past hour, but this time, her friends joined her in singing.
