With a flick of her long wavy blonde locks in the air, Isle sashayed languidly inside the company that her family owns; giving a glimpse on how confident she was to carry herself in front of everyone. In the lobby where several of employees are to be seen cannot help looked at her in awe, causing her to form a smile inwardly, she likes it most when people around her appreciates her beauty.
“Isle, I wonder which pre-loved store you bought that dress of yours.” Vivian- a former schoolmate of hers asked. They were not close friends, in fact she just met her in one of their major subject back in college, so all in all, the girl is just an acquaintance and she didn’t like it when others tried to act so close to her. Her lips turned upside down as she narrowed her eyes into slits as she looked at Vivian.
“I beg your pardon? This dress is customized and specifically made just for me by Kathie Sanders. Don’t act too mighty just because you’re able to work here. I bet that your annual income can’t even pay Kathie to make you a scarf.” Isle said in a monotone. Even though she doesn’t want to bragged, she can’t help but do so. She hates it most when people belittle Kathie Sanders works. She’s her best friend and her works are so popular in the royalties. It’s the perks of having a fashion designer as your best friend is that sometimes she’ll give you clothes for free.
“I-I know. Gee. Relax, Isle. I’m just kidding. I know you asked Miss Sanders to create that lovely dress so that you could impress Achlys.” Vivian uttered nervously, but Isle didn’t notice it when she heard Achlys’ name.
Achlys Fontanilla is her fiancé. Well, sort of. Their mother’s once talked about binding them together as one when they were little and ever since then, Isle kept it in her young and pure heart. She chuckled at her own thought.
“Of course, Achlys would definitely tell me how lovely I look in this dress!” She smiled confidently, although her cheeks are showing signs of blushing.
An employee that is holding a newspaper passed her by. Initially, she planned to ignore the employee like usual but her eyes got fixated in the front page of the newspaper he’s holding. Without further ado, Isle grabbed the man’s arm which startled him.
“What’s the matter, Miss Henderson?” He asked her, confusion etched his voice as he looked at the blonde who suddenly grabbed her. Isle puckered her lips but after a little while, she flashed the employee a smile.
“Can I borrow your newspaper?” Isle uttered, pointing the newspaper the man is holding. She didn’t wait for his answer and took the newspaper from him. She looked at the front page as tears began to swell in her eyes.
“Oh shoot.” Vivian mumbled when she peeked at the newspaper Isle’s holding.
Isle’s eyes remained glued at the newspaper, her hands were stating to shake violently. In the front page, a famous engineer in their field kissed Achlys in the lips while holding a trophy in her left hand. They were at an Engineer Gala in the picture. Isle doesn’t know if she’s being irrational by thinking that he betrayed her. She read the caption of the news as her eyes turned into angry slits: Bachelor Eng. Achlys Fontanilla and Eng., Vanessa Diaz kissing! Finally dating?
“M-Maybe it’s not what you think it is, Isle. Maybe it’s wasn’t Achlys or maybe it’s edited. You know how big of a star Achlys is. I’m sure Vanessa planned this to gain publicity because any publicity is a good publicity.” Vivian tried to console her by giving her speculations but Isle just gave her a sideway glance, Isle gave the newspaper back to the employee before walking towards the elevator. She pushed open the elevator and went inside to go down in the basement where her car parked.
“I was not born yesterday to think that the picture is edited, it wouldn’t take an Einstein to see that it’s legit. Surely, I’m not that dumb enough.” She mumbled inside the metal box. She fished her cell phone out of her purse as she dialled Achlys’ number.
Well maybe she really is dumb enough, because if Vanessa just kissed Achlys in the cheeks, she might have forgiven him and will still be as smitten as before over him. Maybe it’s her wake up call to not expect anything in return; after all, her being his fiancée isn’t official. She wanted to let her tears fall, but her pride is stopping her to do so. She bit her lower lip so hard that she tasted copper like substance in her mouth, only to find out that it bled.
“Oh Isle, you called. Is there something I could do for you?” Achlys’ baritone voice boomed in her ears. She felt betrayed when her heart beat rapidly fast just by hearing his voice, she’s supposed to be mad at him! Isle cleared her throat with a cough.
“Achlys, meet me at the Bistro.” She uttered just as when the elevator’s door opened. She step out and walked towards her usual parking. She heard Achlys yawned at the other line as she pushed a button to open her car.
“Sure, what time?" Achlys asked.
“I’ll give you an hour; I bet that it’s enough time to prepare yourself.” And with that, Isle ended the call. She clamber inside her car and without further ado started the engine and made her way to the said restaurant.
