As soon as we entered the forest, I was enveloped with a plethora of scents and the wetness of the soft moss beneath my feet or rather my paws. The crisp sound of the gravel and the twigs beneath my paws was clearer now to my wolf ears. I could smell everything more precisely. I could see clearer and farther and I could hear better. I could distinguish even the faintest smell and the slightest sounds. I could run faster than any of my pack members, but they did a pretty decent job keeping up with my pace.
We searched the forest for any clues that could lead us to the one responsible for the murder. We searched for a fairly long time, but nothing conclusive was found. The forest looked as sullen as it did before with its canopy of trees and streaks of moonlight pouring in. The leaves were speckled with moonlight and glistened wherever there were droplets of water remaining from yesterday’s rain. I had searched the area as soon as we’d discovered Kat’s body, but I wanted to check again in case I might’ve missed something. The rain may have washed away most of the scent of the perpetrator but I still wanted to look around for anything that might lead us to him.
I tried to cover as much distance and area I could and in the midst of it all I was met with a familiar scent. It hit me at first a faint smell like a remnant of a past long forgotten or like the scent of a warm summer day etched in your distant memory because you were happiest then. It gave me a warm fuzzy feeling inside, and I couldn’t help but smile. I found myself gravitating towards the source of the scent. It was as if I had no control over my movements. I felt like I was afloat. The faint scent grew stronger and stronger as I moved closer. I knew what it was. It was the sweetest scent in the world for me. There was no mistaking it, I could recognize the faintest sign of this scent even if it were masked among a thousand other scents .It was the sweet scent of my Luna, my mate.
There she was in her balcony, reclined in a chair gazing up at the stars. Her long silver hair cascading over her shoulders, glistening as it caught the moonlight. Her white gown flowing with the gentle breeze revealing her perfectly sculpted ankle. She clutched a book to her chest but it didn’t look like she was reading it. The moonlight illuminated her entire body and speckles of light danced around her lending her a halo that covered her entire silhouette. She looked heavenly. My breath caught in my throat. I must’ve made a sound because she suddenly stood up. She turned towards where I was and looked straight at me. I felt like I was glued to that spot. I couldn’t move.
“s**t!!!”
She can’t see me this way. She’ll freak out. She doesn’t know who I really am. All these thoughts kept circling my mind. I could sense her panic. She was freaking out as well. But I think she was fascinated too or maybe it was just wishful thinking on my part. I wanted to approach her and tell her not to be afraid and that it was just me, and I would never hurt her. Just then, one of my pack members let out a distinct shrill howl. It only meant one thing,
Death.
