CHAPTER 001
CHAPTER 001 (BETRAYAL) SHEILA'S POV. My world at seventeen is perfect, an enviable life wrapped in layers of wealth and privilege, one that glittered with the gloss of luxury. As the only child of Odin, Old Alpha of the Seven Packs in Nightfall and from the 2nd family, I have everything most would only dream of, and that includes Julian Orion, the son of Thane, the pack's Beta. Tall, handsome, and charming, he is the perfect match for me and my world. But my perfect world shatters a year after my mother's death, followed by my inability to shift to my wolf form when I turned eighteen. During my first ritual, Julian didn't reject me. Neither did the pack consider me an Omega. Everyone felt I wasn't yet over my mother's death, so Julian didn't mark me as his Luna. Then the worst happens when father marries the woman whom have been training me on how to shift to my wolf form from a neighbouring town alongside her daughter Sasha, who is a year younger than me. Father says Sasha is an outcome of his long-forgotten affair outside his marriage with my late mom. And as an Alpha, culture is against him leaving his child outside his home. "I'm headed to my boyfriend's apartment, Julian Orion's, seeking refuge from my stepmom and sister's wickedness. He'd promised to pick me up, but he hasn't been responding to his texts or calls. As I descended the stairs, I tried calling him again, but it went straight to voicemail. 'Nonsense!' I mutter, banging the living room door shut. “Sheila! A voice I knew too well calls my name as I'm about to get into my car. I lament inwardly as I turn to face her. 'Yes, Mum,' I answer, forcing a smile that didn't cross my cheeks. I hated this woman for so many reasons, but calling her 'Mum” is the first. “Go get your sister for me, tell her to come down for lunch,' she instructed. And I stared at her in disbelief. “You know we pay servants in this house? I asked, blinking hard. 'I'm about to go out and it's kind of urgent. I blew my cheek out, a sign that I was done talking, and hopped into my car. 'You never learn, do you?'" I pause and get out of my car. “Don't say I didn't warn you when I go to your father's room and complain." She gives me a wicked look before walking away. If she goes to her father's room, he will suspend whatever he's doing and follow her like a lost puppy to dictate her instructions. I have watched her manipulate him for months, and it sickened me. "Alright, fine! You win today. I'll go get her." I make sure not to look at her, cause the gloat floating on her face would only make me change my mind. I head back to the living room, and my thoughts travel back to my boyfriend. I dialed his number again and got the same answer. Why wasn't he answering? He's always with his phone. I cried mentally. As I reach my stepsister's room, I hear noises coming from inside. “Oh… yeah,” I hear a moaning sound coming from her bedroom. I lean on the door to listen more.. “Oh my God” yeah… I love you so much..yeah…..wow!! "Exactly what I think is going on in there, no surprise. But why is she so loud?” If only my father weren't a shadow of himself since he got married to my stepmother. “How dare she bring a man into the house?” "Have you considered how beneficial it would be for you if you date me instead of my stepsister. I mean, she's above eighteen and can't turn to her wolf form, so she probably would never. Are you going to wait for her forever?” I freeze, struggling to process Sasha's words. "Are you being serious right now?” She's the successor to pick the next Alpha– the moment she finds out about us, I'll lose everything I've worked for over the years. I recognized that voice That voice belongs to no else but my boyfriend Julian. "I admire you Sasha, you're that girl, "but I've come too far with your sister and my position as the next alpha. I wouldn't trade it for anything." "Do you think my mom would just sit back and watch that wolfless b***h choose the next alpha?" My world stopped, and I felt like I had been punched in the gut. Sasha's words were like a knife twisting deeper into my chest. I could feel my breath rising and falling as I stood there shaking. For a moment, I'm thinking of turning back, but my anger wins, and I barge into the room. They both jump in shock as their eyes fall on me, Julian is staring at me like he's seeing a ghost. "So this is it?" I tried to speak, but the words caught in my throat. I clutch my chest, struggling to keep my emotions in check. But despite my efforts, tears stream down my face uncontrollably. "Sheila, please, it's a mistake, I can explain!" Julian Beggs, trying to get closer to me, but my glaring gaze stops him. "And what brought you to my room?" Sasha asked casually. I drag my eyes from Julian and place them on hers. She doesn't look scared or guilty at all She's calm and happy. "Your mom asked me to call you for lunch downstairs," I say, "Do you mind telling me what you are doing with my boyfriend on your bed?" "Are you blind?" She folds her arms across her chest and chuckles at me. "I just f****d him. Is there something you want to do about it?" Her confidence is challenging. It dawned on me that this isn't just her doing. She and her mom had planned it all. She had seduced Julian, and her mom had sent me to fetch her for lunch, knowing I would walk in on them together, this doesn't look like it's their first time either. "'That's enough, Sasha,' Julian nudges her gently with his elbow. 'Your sister has every right to be upset. This isn't right.' He turned to me, his eyes filled with regret. 'I'm sorry, Sheila. I don't know what came over me.' A stubborn tear escaped my eyes and I wiped it away furiously, I'm heartbroken Deeply shattered The man I have known for twenty-three years, the one I thought I knew inside out, has just revealed that our entire engagement has been a sham to him. I know Sasha had seduced him, but what hurt more is his interest; to him, I'm just a stepping stone to the Alpha position. Not the woman he is supposed to love and cherish." "I train my gaze back to Sasha, who is shooting daggers at me with her eyes. I feel a surge of anger, like I should snap her fragile neck. 'You're cursed, Sasha,' I said, chuckling through the pain. 'You and your mom seem to have a taste for “Overly used men” Is that a family trait?' Her eyes darken, and she takes a step closer. 'How dare you?' I suddenly feel hot, 'Did you just slap me?' I ask, my hand rising to return the slap. But my action is paused by the sound of footsteps approaching the bedroom. We all turn to see my stepmom standing in the doorway, “What's all this noise about?' she asked with a searching eye. Then she turned to me, 'Didn't you say you have somewhere urgent to go? What are you still doing here?' I huff in disbelief. Marveled at her acting skills. Like she didn't know I was heading to Julian's apartment. 'Mom, she said we have a taste for overly used men,' Sasha chimed in, her eyes bulging with disgust." My stepmom gives me a wicked look, her eyes narrowing beneath her lashes. 'Tell her it's not your fault she and her mom can't keep a man,' she retorted, like I wasn't standing there. 'Mom!” I whisper, my voice trembling as tears spill down my face. 'What Sasha is doing, is it right?' Her voice dropped to a whisper as she stepped closer. “Let this be the first and last time you speak to my child like that... or else, I'll bathe you in the same fire that is consuming your w***e of a mother.'" "I blink in shock, my eyes wide with disbelief. “My mother was a good woman,” You shouldn't say that about her. I stammered" "Tell that to your biological father," she snarled.
