Feelings that Burn like Fire Episode 6 "No, Father, I have not checked on them, but I will soon," I said. I knew my dad was going to make a big deal about this. "Tregon, you know that if not for our tradition, I would still be king. But our tradition is that once we are 70, we transfer the elements to a younger body, and you know that whoever has the elements is the king." I knew clearly where this was going. He was going to ask me not to bring shame upon the family. "Son, you do realize that you are a king and you carry a legacy of tradition passed down to generations," he said. "Yes, Father, I know..." I tried to speak, but he cut me off. "Don't speak, Tregon. I am not done talking. Now, listen to me carefully. As long as I am alive, you will do as I say, and you will carry your responsibility with pride and obligation. Do you understand what I am saying, son? There is no room for mistake. You will not make a single mistake. Am I clear?" I wanted to say something, but who dares to talk back to my father? "Yes, Dad," I bowed my head and left the room. We heard screams from the room. we went in, one by one. I started crying, wondering how painful what I was about to experience would be. We kept moving, and it was finally my turn. When I entered the room, my whole body froze. Some bodies were lifeless on the floor; some people could not take the pain, so they died. Now I was terrified. "Bring her," the shabby-looking man said. A guard held me to the wall. He took the hot metal and placed it on my skin. My head spun as I felt a sharp pain on my back. "Haaaaaa!" I screamed in agony and pain. Episode 7 I closed my eyes and wished I would die, but death was far from me. In the midst of my darkness, I saw something, someone. I was in a bright place, and it felt like I was floating. "You will be fine, Shiva. We are here with you." And just like that, I opened my eyes, and I was back in the hut, lying on the floor in a pool of my blood. I could feel my chest hurting badly from the burn. I looked up and saw the shabby-looking man looking down at me. "Hmmm, strong one, this one. Take her away. It looks like she will survive." I was dragged from the hut and thrown into a truck like the others. Everyone seemed passed out or too weak to talk. I looked at my chest, and this was not a marking; they were trying to kill us. My skin was burnt badly, and the marking was just a tiny little sign of fire. "Move the truck!" I looked around, wondering where the rest were. I asked the boy close to me, and he looked at me with tears in his eyes. "They did not make it." I couldn't believe that many people didn't make it. We were not up to 30, and before, we were more than 50. I wrapped my hand around my leg and closed my eyes. Right now, I just wanted to sleep. "Shiva, you have to wake up. We are here." I opened my eyes and looked around, wondering who was speaking and who Shiva was. Why do I keep hearing voices in my head? "Get down!" shouted the guards. We all came down from the truck, and for the first time, they took off our chains. I felt relieved as my legs felt free. "Move it!" We were taken through a heavily guarded gate, and a big but unkept village came into sight. Episode 8 We walked into a shabby, unkept-looking village, and with a large population, the people cheered and shouted in excitement as we walked in. The guards left us and walked out of the guarded gate. We looked around, and then I noticed that this was not just any village. This was where they kept the savages and slaves they brought from other countries. "Welcome!" a loud voice said, and the noise immediately went down. "Welcome to the Pit, people. As you can see, we are all very excited to have you among us." I looked up and saw the man talking; he looked different from the rest. His clothes were clean, unlike the others. "I am the chief of this village, my name is Victor. Now, you will all walk into the village and enter any house of your choice. Any house you enter, the people you meet there become your family. This way, we can live happy and forget about our past and try to make a future." And yes, welcome once again! The crowd shouted as they all ran to their houses and watched us through their windows as we all scattered, looking for a house to enter. All the houses I came across were either too crowded or too small for my liking, but what's the difference? They all looked the same. Until I came across a house, the last house on the street, very big, but surprisingly, there was no one at the window of this house. It looked silent. I wondered why everyone kept passing the house and not going in. Then I noticed the human skull hanging at the top of the house. But why? Episode 9 I opened the door to the house, and to my surprise, I saw a man and a woman, two young men, and two young ladies. "Ha ha, hi," I managed to say. "Welcome," the man said with a big smile. "I'm Victor; I believe we have met before at the introduction." Oh, he was the chief; now I remembered. "You are welcome," he said. "This is my family: my wife, Amanda, and this are my two daughters, Martha and Matilda; and these are my sons, Felix and Kelvin." The woman and the children were smiling, but something felt wrong. "Hi," I said, and they all smiled back at me. "Hi, we are your new family. What's your name, dear?" "I'm Sivila," I said shyly. "That's a nice name," Martha said. "Martha will take you to your room," the woman said. "She'll get you ready for the orientation."martha take her to her room, "Yes, Mum, come, Sivila, let's go." I followed Martha. "Victor, what do you think of our new daughter?" Amanda said with excitement in her voice. "She's pretty and calm; she's just like you when you first came here." "I know, I'm happy; I have a new child," Victor said, knowing how emotional Amanda could get. Martha took me to my room; it was not big, but it was cozy. "This is your room; you can wear this to the orientation today," she said, giving me a nice dress. "Martha, are you OK? You seem sad," I said. Martha looked at me in irritation. "How is that your business? Just stay out of my way." OK, she stormed out of my room, and I wondered what her problem was. I got dressed and stepped out of the room, and I saw everyone seated at the little dinner table. "Come, seat, dear; let's have dinner," Amanda said. Episode 10 Amanda's smile was bright and innocent, almost like that of a mother who had just given birth to a new child. I walked to the table and sat on the empty seat beside them. Felix put food on my plate, and Matilda poured me water. I felt like I was with my family again. "Silvia, I'm sure everything looks strange to you right now, but I promise, soon everything will work out. We will take care of you like you're our own," Victor said with a big smile. Amanda took my hand. "It's OK, dear. I know you'll be fine. Just make sure when you go to the orientation today, you stay focused, listen, and concentrate." "OK," I nodded. "Good. Now, the king might come today. Never look him in the eye; always put your head down." "OK, ma." "No, Silvia, call me Mum." I nodded but said nothing. "Felix, take her to the orientation and bring her back, OK?" "Yes, Mum." "You two be safe." Me and Felix left the house after having dinner. "How do you feel?" Felix asked me with a smile. I looked at him shyly. "How do you mean?" "I mean, with Mum and Dad, they're nice, right?" I looked at him and nodded. "I guess you don't talk much, do you?" I shook my head. "It's fine," he said, and we walked in silence. We got to a very big field; it was too big, and the walls around it were so high. But my thought was wrong; this was no field. In fact, we were in a pit, because as I looked up, I saw row and row of chairs, and we were at the bottom end of the pit. That means this place is actually the Pit; the village was underneath the Pit. I joined a long row of people waiting.
